Some of the comments are just so plain stupid, I can't leave them stand. Again ALL cameras when they zoom make SOME sound. The P100 is actually more quite than many and for sure mine doesn't make the motor boat sound heard in this vid. That suggests the camera was dropped or sustained some damage. You will hear a high pitched typical whine. I actually tested with a sound meter, it is about 30 db. This can be edited out...post production..if you know what you're doing.
If you want a top of the line HD video camera, like commonly used on news broadcasts, they start at about $60,000. Again, foolishly expecting some $400 camera to match that is a pipe dream.
You can't compare apples to oranges. If you want still images in the 25mpx range where you can count indivdual hairs on the cheeks of some 13 year old with peach fuzz standing a rock 200 feet away, get a top of the liine DSLR and be ready to cough up between $6,000 to $10,000. This is $400 camera, that can be had for a street price of about $330. For it can do and do well, its a steal at that price. I know I just got one a week ago and love it.
Yes the P100 like all point & shoot cameras has various "automatic" setting, just like a Ferrari can be used to pick up groceries at the supermarket. This camera comes with a 200 page manual (PDF online) READ IT before making stupid comments. The host of settings makes this an excellent camera in it's price range. Yes auto mode LIKE WITH ALL CAMERS can result is "soft" looking images, that can be overcome IF you know what you're doing. Obviously at lot of jokers posting here don't.
I chuckle over the comments by people that obviously have no clue what they're talking about. This is a EXCELLENT camera packed with advanced features, superior optics capable of producing excellent still photos and HD and high speed video. ALL cameras will shake in telephoto mode IF you zoom in and aren't using a tripod. Ditto with auto focus. Obviously if you're shooting VIDEO and in the process of zooming and the camera is set to only focus once, of course the vid will be out of focus.
@Dimbulb23 Thanxs. . I got this problem fixed couole dats after i saw the video. I went into video setting and set the Autofocus mode to Full Time AF instead of Single AF. This changed eerything. I will be uploading more video in the next couple days. I work in downtown LA so i have access to many building rooftops.
Cameras have made giant strides in the last 20 years and you don't need to know much to get decent images. But the laws of optics have not be repealed. The more you know the better quality images and videos you'll get. The cameras simply can't always overcome your ignorance.
Do yourself a favor, go the library and get a book on the basic of photography.
I just got this camera yesterday. And i lov it. But i notice it does make noise when u zoom in during recording. But can anyone tell me if it autofocuses? Because at times when i'm in full zoom i still get blurrines.
@nando323 It's the way optics work. With a long zoom any movement of the camera will have an exaggerated effect on the image. Even using powerful binoculars you can see this. Use a tripod. No one can hold a camera that still without some sort of help. All you have to do is watch photographers at sporting events who have long lens, they all use tripods.
@helpAmerica1 that chatter sounded like someone trying to fix a moped down below or something. i dont believe that was the camera, if that is what you were talking about (the sound other than the zoom)
okay, I don't want to be too harsh here, but look at the chromatic aberrations at the end of the zoom range and how much it's struggling to focus, is the AF contrast based? what the hell nikon? that's pathetic...
beside the internal noise, the jello effect (rolling shutter) is unbearable, and every low light footage I've seen from this camera has a pink hue, I was expecting a little better from nikon :\
Dude, if you want a damn cinematic movie camera, save up ten-thousand dollars and buy one of those, like the kind Cloverfield was shot with, or just get a camcorder, dedicated to only shooting video. This is a $400 camera from Nikon. It's very badass for its size and price. I plan on getting this ASAP.
hey pls answer this if i record at 60 fps without high speed footage and transfer it to my computer it changes to 30 fps..
