I remember when I bought this single: I had just moved to a USA rural town, middle of nowhere. I was playing this in the beat up car that was my wheels at the time. Some sheriff started following me around. Probably because he didn't like my outsider garb, leather jacket/ripped jeans. Excellent song. Richard was interviewed on BBC Breakfast News a couple of months back. Talented singer-songwriter. He was looking well (if a bit on the thin side) and his hair's calmed down since the late80's/early 90's, ha ha. Seems like an all round decent bloke. Cheers for posting.

Dig a little deeper and you'll find artists like Andy Mckee, Ronald Jenkees, Gorillaz, and deadmau5. Amazingly talented artists who always push the envelope. Just stay away from the radio :)

@hassanelhabeb1979 .... not true. I just saw Richard Marx and it was a song he wrote in the back of his tour bus just to be different. Didn't even want to record it but his wife talked him into it!

"Hazard" tells the story of an implied relationship of some kind between Marx's character (usually considered the protagonist) and a woman named Mary. Mary is presumably murdered and Marx, shunned by many in the small town since his childhood, is immediately considered the main suspect. Marx, however, maintains his innocence throughout the song, and the question of such is left open to the listener's interpretation.

This song always creeped me out, which is exactly why I bought it and listened to it numerous times. Marx is awesome, this song and Should've Known Better are two of his best songs. :)

I remember when I bought this single: I had just moved to a USA rural town, middle of nowhere. I was playing this in the beat up car that was my wheels at the time. Some sheriff started following me around. Probably because he didn't like my outsider garb, leather jacket/ripped jeans. He followed me all the way into a mom & pop store where I had previously done business;he finally stopped tailing me when the ladies recognized me&smiled. Guess he expected me to hold up the joint or shoplift LOL!

Excellent song. Richard was interviewed on BBC Breakfast News a couple of months back. Talented singer-songwriter. He was looking well (if a bit on the thin side) and his hair's calmed down since the late80's/early 90's, ha ha. Seems like an all round decent bloke. Cheers for posting.

Great lyrics, great arrangement, just a fabulous song from a great songwriter & performer. Would love to see him live but he does'nt seem to know we exist way down here in NZ. Maybe someday he will do a show here but meantime I'm "right here waiting"

Jahrelang hab ich diesen Titel gesucht, weil ich damals noch kein Englisch konnte und die Lyrics nicht verstanden habe. Ich wusste nach ganz intensivem Nachdenken nur noch etwas mit "to the river", hätte aber auch anders sein können. Endlich, eben gerade hab ich diesen wunderbaren Titel wieder gefunden. Ich hör ihn mir jetzt erstmal ein paarmal genüsslich an. Ahja und Richard Marx sah ja gar nicht mal schlecht aus... ;-)

@KazuyaaMishima We still have music and lyrics like this in today's music, it just never makes it to the radio. The radio plays what sells, which is typically songs about money, sex, drugs, love, and hate. And the majority of radio listeners are between the ages of 13-18, who don't know the difference. Dig a little deeper and you'll find artists like Andy Mckee, Ronald Jenkees, Gorillaz, and deadmau5. Amazingly talented artists who always push the envelope. Just stay away from the radio :)

I think he means she went out alone to drown herself in the river, then he says he needs to make it to the river, which I think means he finds out about her planned suicide and trys to stop her, He gets there too late finds her drowned and leaves her safe and sound, dead but perfectly safe.
