@9020powrmax If your not exceeding the transformers current or dutycycle ratings than there is no problem for the transformer to cope happliy with what they did.

The welder is just a heavy duty power supply.

@gtheferrett there was only a little flash when he was scraping the base plate that is only enough to give a welders flash not full arc eye. also health and safety was not as strict as it is now for presenters.

Shooting electricity through carbon rods with the right amperage and voltage you can cut/dig metal right out. Where I work it's called air-arcing or backgouging.

@spitzification14 Graphite is a form of carbon. Although the graphite used in pencils has added clays and other metal traces it is mainly graphite.

yeah its actually really cool lol...i have seen it done (as well as done it myself) and it really doesnt take long at all...but see we were doing it to put someone through the welding enviromental elements and that included the smell of burning rubber from stepping on a hot electrode...the pencil trick i never knew until now though...i would love to try it but we would get in a bit of trouble for doing that in the shop lol...
