People don't realise that Ps is winning, the technology is so amazing that even xbox did not have at the start. Also Ps games have exclusive content on BluRay disks for example on Fallout 3 GOTY there's all downloadable content in the disk that I don't have to download, and Battlefield 3 coming out as well with a extra game inside the Blu Ray disk called Battlefield 1943.

Also PS3 cpu only has 3.2ghz which minimum for a satellite transmission and not a multi-core sys. and also the nvidia reality engine's gpu clocks only at 500mhz and a 256mb vram that uses the old ddr3 interface only at 700mhz. and also it uses the SATA interface for HDD-cpu proc. and not parallel so it has a lower freq. speed in file proc for a speedy computer. so NO it's NOT!

SATA (S-for Serial) = Means that only one code can be sent out at a time. Like a tunnel that only one person can pass at a time. IDE=PATA(P=Prarallel) Prallel allows more than simultaneous transmission of signals. i.e: in Serial there's only one tunnel but in parallel there are sveral parallel tunnels that allows more bits to be sent at the same time.

People just got fooled that SATA is faster because the new HDD's have higher RPM's than the old IDE series. but a parallel HDD with a high RPM would be a lot faster than a SATA HDD with just 7500 rpm... the speed in the RPM is the thing that matters though in high speed transmission PATA is still prefered

There's not much more than 0 and 1, it's the same technology, the difference between fast and slow is the way these numbers are implemented, how intelligent the programming is, in how far it supports the surrounding hardware and so on.

There are features like north and southbridge, integrated graphics and physics, intelligent microprograms, and even more basic things like the delay time a transistor needs to charge, current breaks, how fast the current is rising within (faster is better) and many other things the PS3 CPU does NOT have.

@blackbadmac BluRay can store lots of preloaded stuff. Since it loads so many, the loading times are longer. PS3 has little GPU and RAM, so it uses BluRay. The textures are loaded from the disc not RAM.
With the PC, you only need DVDs. There's more balance in hardware. That's why the PCs don't need BluRay and has better graphics. If it lags for you, you have a shitty PC.

256mb even with the faster through-put, puts it in the mid 3 hundreds not anywhere near 512mb, some games show a large performance drop compared with xbox 360, running from disc.
one example would be the latest gran turismo game, but once installed it stops becoming an issue.

@cant1rac if the ps3 had met the potential the cell processor and blueray hardware had given it, microsoft would have been forced into releasing as soon as possible a ps3 beating consule, to stop any migraration of their market share to sony.
eg. gran turismo playing of the disc isnt feasible, which shows a serious memory problem because of the lack of capasity. once installed its fine.
but it means microsoft is still the bench mark for this generation of consules, and that shouldn't be the case

Xbox 360 definitely has better live but for $60 a year plus the red ring problem still a risk to even the new elites (it still exists even tho its less likely) microsoft can go screw itself, xbox original was great I still play it but sold my piece of crap 360 for a ps3 which has served me well :)

Duh dude! It's not only one PS3! and the processor for the super computer is not the same as that of the ordinary ps3. Also PS3 cpu only has 3.2ghz which minimum for a satellite transmission and not a multi-core sys. and also the nvidia reality engine's gpu clocks only at 500mhz and a 256mb vram that uses the old ddr3 interface only at 700mhz. and also it uses the SATA interface for HDD-cpu proc. and not parallel so it has a lower freq. speed in file proc for a speedy computer. so NO it's NOT!

@115Kramer SATA is actually much faster than parallel interconnects like the old IDE (which is why the former replaced the latter), although the SATA interface used on the PS3 is four times slower than the one used on current computers. Also, RSX is clocked at 550 MHz and uses GDDR3 memory, not DDR3 (it's also much slower than current GPUs, though). And the "minimum for a satellite transmission" part doesn't make any sense.

SATA (S-for Serial) = Means that only one code can be sent out at a time. Like a tunnel that only one person can pass at a time. IDE=PATA(P=Prarallel) Prallel allows more than simultaneous transmission of signals. i.e: in Serial there's only one tunnel but in parallel there are sveral parallel tunnels that allows more bits to be sent at the same time.

@NewLynxS The reason IDE(PATA) was replaced be SATA is not because of the reason that it's faster but because SATA costs lesser than the IDE(PATA) which has several pins that are not all used. People just got fooled that SATA is faster because the new HDD's have higher RPM's than the old IDE series. but a parallel HDD with a high RPM would be a lot faster than a SATA HDD with just 7500 rpm... the speed in the RPM is the thing that matters though in high speed transmission PATA is still prefered

@115Kramer Both new SATA HDDs and old IDE HDD have the exact same rotation frequency, 7200 RPM. People were not fooled, the fastest IDE connection available achieves a maximum of 133.33 Mbps, compared to a maximum of 1.5 Gbps from SATA when it was first released (today, on the third revision, it goes up to 6 Gbps). So, even though IDE uses a parallel interface, it is much slower than SATA nevertheless.

I agree in the current, yes, because the PATA development has been stopped due to cost cutting. but Parallel connections in higher speeds it would be better than Serial connections... since Parallels like serial can also increase speeds :) but of course I prefer Serial now since it has lot's of advantages over the Parrallel(it's easier to plug and remove... my favorite compromise :p). and SATA 3.0 that I use now gives me a lot of fun specially in RAID :).

@iAcceptUrChallenge If they said it, they couldn't be more wrong. Roadrunner uses the improved PowerXCell 8i processor, not the harvested, standard Cell used on the PS3 processor. Like I said, it's made of QS22 and LS21 IBM server blades, which provide a very different environment compared to the PS3.

There's not much more than 0 and 1, it's the same technology, the difference between fast and slow is the way these numbers are implemented, how intelligent the programming is, in how far it supports the surrounding hardware and so on.
Of course the PS3 processor has not the same specs as a pc, otherwise it could run crysis which it can definitely not.

@dj2530 no doubt about that, but not only the RAM makes the PC more powerful. You have to know a 3.2 GHz Cpu is not the same as another 3.2 GHz Cpu. There are features like north and southbridge, integrated graphics and physics, intelligent microprograms, and even more basic things like the delay time a transistor needs to charge, current breaks, how fast the current is rising within (faster is better) and many other things the PS3 CPU does NOT have.

@blackbadmac BluRay can store lots of preloaded stuff. Since it loads so many, the loading times are longer. PS3 has little GPU and RAM, so it uses BluRay. The textures are loaded from the disc not RAM.
With the PC, you only need DVDs. There's more balance in hardware. That's why the PCs don't need BluRay and has better graphics. If it lags for you, you have a shitty PC.
No, most gaming PCs are stronger. Most have a weaker CPU, but everything else is better than the PS3.

adding more system memory to the ps3 would remove the bottlenecks and unleash the true potential of the cell processor.
remember we are not streaming from a dvd, we are streaming from blueray.
coping with that huge potential of data, 3gb would have eliminated any system bottleneck and allowed the ps3 to scale beyond what is possible now in game,
and provided full 24gb of streamed in game data for next generation gaming.

why do be people have to be such fanboys, on a technical level, the ps3 processor and blueray drive are supreiour to thoughs in the xbox360.
on a technical level the xbox has superiour use of memory, of utilising it components and has better gpu.
from a hardware point the ps3 is a very poorly designed machine.
cause it cant put down half its potential
but its still a great machine.
equal in everyway to the xbox 360 but unable to deliver any overall superiority.

256mb even with the faster through-put, puts it in the mid 3 hundreds not anywhere near 512mb, some games show a large performance drop compared with xbox 360, running from disc.
one example would be the latest gran turismo game, but once installed it stops becoming an issue.
but it does show a problem with a very severe bottleneck, cause by insufficent system ram memory

weve been so long waiting for a new consule from someone, simply because the ps3 wasnt as good as it should have been.
first time i can rember where the 1st machine of a generation, ie the xbox 360
hasnt been outclasses by the last the ps3.
leaving the 1st with no pressure to get a new consule out the door.
and infact the longer microsoft waits the better for it sales.
and none off the others want to be 1st and end up with the weakest consule in technical terms, & risk being in 3rd place overall

@cant1rac if the ps3 had met the potential the cell processor and blueray hardware had given it, microsoft would have been forced into releasing as soon as possible a ps3 beating consule, to stop any migraration of their market share to sony.
eg. gran turismo playing of the disc isnt feasible, which shows a serious memory problem because of the lack of capasity. once installed its fine.
but it means microsoft is still the bench mark for this generation of consules, and that shouldn't be the case

1. intellivision..despite a 16bit capable cpu couldn't deliverany more colors on screen or resolutions greater than an atari vcs.
2. atari jaguar... limited capasity of its cartridge format and an over complex 5 cpu and gpu arrangement.
3. sega saturn... multiple cpu were rarely utilised.
4. nintendeo 64..limited by cartridge capasity

@ps3gamerguy1 well gary coleman, theres a few things wrong with multiplats. the multiplats are designed on the 360 then ported to the ps3 to save time and money and these games have lower quality graphics and several other issues because the games are not configured to utilize the cell broadband engine. and there isnt much sony can do about it because multiplats make more money than exclusives do
