  • What program is this?

  • EARTH: Smart enough to blast a man into space, not smart enough to see a fleet of a million asteroids approaching.

  • Good on you, great video..

  • Honestly, you could have used an acual model for "Major tom" instead of his skeleton

  • lol, weird how I am saddened by a song about a fictional character.

  • @Klesh13 maybe because you can empathize with his situation. First time i actually listened to the words i thought something similar. cool song but a bit depressing in one aspect. <------ ( Basically Grew up a Mission Control in Houston Tx. )

  • Lul at all the people thinking Major Tom was real... Major Tom was made up by David Bowie.

  • @Villaking1337

It's not half as funny as thinking this song is about a guy in orbit around planet Earth.

  • All you fans out there, I know our video creator celebrity personally, HE'S DREAMMMMMYYY!

  • This is ground control to major tom... Fuck im high

  • Astroid Airstrike!! Crazy =(

  • so... what actually happened to major tom? Did he die? :(

  • @AmberJayGirl Yeah =(

  • Most of this song is coming from my right earpiece.

  • Dude, this is awesome. I used to animate myself.

  • o.e So that's what happened to him...

  • so this is what happened to major tom......

  • Beautiful

  • i love this song its really moving and inspirting

  • Such a haunting song.

  • amazing! if i could give you 5 stars i would!

  • How is this song coralated to drugs??

  • @QNELSON2 if it has something to do with drugs, it must mean, feeling like your flying over the world, then crashing down, the consequence being death, but as the name says "Space Oddity", it about a astronaut...

  • way to leave a bare bones system for major tom....

  • Where does the song say anything about a meteor storm???

  • @42317 his own creative expression. doesnt not say anything about a meteor storm lol.

  • just saw the space shuttle endeavor launch. can't wait for the Eris V rocket to take off!

  • @llVllahi At the rate this adminstration is killing NASA projects all you'll get to see launched are paper airplanes.

  • great song

  • A guy going suicide.

  • what?

  • this song is about an ediction with drugs

  • No, it's not.

  • Brilliant. Thanks.

  • why am i sitting in a tin can

  • Yeah I went to the Rose Bowl concert. U2 never sang it nor ripped it off. It was the song just to open up the concert and announce the arrival of the band.

  • Whats all the crap about U2 I thought this was a David Bowie classic. Have U2 now ripped it off and done a cover version. Best song to listen to just as you drop a T and hang on for the ride. LOL

  • U2 enter the arena to this song (for the 360 tour).... which is a major tribute to Bowe. So no, U2 have not ripped it off

  • This was U2 opening song in Toronto Canada Sept 17 the best show ever

  • wow great job with the vid. wow very impressive like the song too!!!

  • me to was at the sheffield gig by the way what programe did u use to make this?

  • i saw U2 in croke park dublin and this is the opening song 4 the 360 tour!

  • what a great video! it really fits :))) I started to look for this song beacause of U2's concerts :) Space Oddity is an intro song during their entrances to the stage on 360 degrees tour :)

  • Me too! Was at the Cardiff gig last night. Epic.

  • AGREED - I was there too :oD

  • I saw them in Chorzow, Poland on Aug 6th :D Magic. Best 2,5 h of my life! Standing right in front of The Edge was amazing :)))

  • I heard Bowie say in an interview that this song was to a great extent inspired by the mental illness of Syd Barret. And yes, I know about the reference in Ashes to Ashes.

  • great singer

    great song

und was es an musik banausen gibt die jeden scheiss mit drogen in verbindung bringen müssen

  • this is brillant and i adore the animation!

  • this doesnt sound like major tom

    oh well a good version

  • Joe - a beautiful visual - I'm showing htis to my media studies class. xxx

  • this song made me want to e a spaceman

    m farrington

  • you know its about heroin, right? major tom? xxx

  • Lawlwut? I ma pretty sure Bowie wrote this after seeing the 1968 Stanley Kubrick movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.

  • ...the songs about herion...? doesnt sound like it...

  • Are you serious? Why are you watching this if your not a Bowie fan? The song ashes to ashes is a sequal to this, and the lyrics, " Ashes to Ashes, funk to funky, we know major toms a junky, strung out in heavens high, hitting an all time low".

China girl isn't about a girl either there buddy.

  • sense when the fuck do u need to be a fan/know who the made the song to listen to the song? idk any of this guys songs or his name, i like the song and if u dont like that fuck u

  • David Bowie is one of the most famous singers of the past few decades, I'm not even a music fan and know him well. Course, I grew up watching Labyrinth...

  • This song isn't about heroin ! If that's what you see in it, you're entitled to that opinion but it doesn't have to be, and it was before Bowies drug faze. So don't announce your opinion as fact in such a way.

By the way, I'm not willing to argue the point, though I will debate if anyones up for it.

  • I think they're confusing this song with "Ashes to Ashes" where the lyrics state "We know Major Tom's a junky." but "Ashes to Ashes" was about his use of drugs. Wiki gives some good info on both songs regarding drugs and the suggestion of heroine being related to this song by some people.

  • If the song is about heroin !

  • This is my favorite song of all time.

    Lyrics are cool.

    Nice video.

  • cool vid... i would have never figured out tom died from hitting an astroid and hurtling to earth lmao

  • actually, it was Cat Power, Shiny Toy Guns covered Major Tom (coming home).

unfortunately i cant seem to find any other version of the cat power one than the 30 second clip

  • This Was Very Good! Nice Work Here! 5 Stars And Favorites! Cheers

    Dale

  • 3Ds Max 8

  • oh

    ok

    thank you very much.

    I really want it.

Do you know what Pixar uses?

    Something like renderman.

  • Reminds me of using the Alice program in computer science

  • forestgumpaed....a fact here.the name major tom was featured in three of is songs, this is one, what are the other two?the song itself is far out man.....get it....

  • for here am i sitting in a tin can, far above the wooooorld. WOW. i'm sooo high, that part sounds amazing

  • this is my favoritest song ever

  • its a sad song

    and oldie

    and i Love it

  • oh my, so much love making this. Very nice. Keep doing the things for like ^^

  • major tom just got owned =(

  • oh guys the song is called space oddity and the guy who sings it is david bowie

  • <3 song.

  • indeed about heroine. 'Ashes to Ashes' also refers to it;

"Ashes to ashes, funk to funky

We know major toms a junkie"

  • planet earth is blue and theres nothin i can do h0w is tht bout heroine

  • id guess that he means the world goes on but you cant do anything while youre on heroine, from what i hear its like being all fluffy in a warm cocoon. so it might symbolise just laying there and unable to care about anything :-s

  • also agees with red eyes, also this is now on a car ad.

  • stars* that is.

  • Thats exactly what its about redeyes, its about being high.."I'm floating in a most peculiar way, and the skies look very different today." I'd think it'd be obvious to anybody who's ever been through some kind of trip to know exactly what this song is about just by listening..

  • yeah, too true, but I thought that he severed the link and never went back, having gone a little nuts.

  • dude, I don't think he dies. I think he just disconects the reciever and just floats. he sorta goes nuts, as near as I can tell. although, songs are open to your interpretation.

  • yeah definitely. interpretation is almost 100%. I don't think he dies in the song, though I think he dies soon after. To me it seems something has gone wrong and now he's just floating away from earth and can't do anything. At first he's talking about floating above earth but after GC talks about the circuit dying he talks about floating "far above the moon". thats just my opinion though.

  • This song is about David Bowie when he was addicted to herion.when you shoot up you feel a rush like taking off in a rocket then "high above the moon" is when the high subsides into a floating almost dream like state and you feel sort of helplessness and the systems failing and him dieing is the crash you have when your high ends

  • David Bowie was never addicted to heroin. He used it occasionally, yes, but he was much more of a coke user. Why is there this grand assumption that every controversial music figure ever is addicted to heroin? I don't get it.

  • Do you know any other figures that was addicted to other drugs than heroin?

  • Yup; Elton John was addicted to coke, Keith Moon was an alcoholic, Shannon Hoon from blind melon was addicted to coke, James Honeyman-coke, not to mention the countless actors/actresses and even musicians I didn't name. Heroin's not the only bad drug, ya know

  • wtf??? that came out of nowhere..!!??!?

  • ZCeltics34 It was Hit thirty-two years ago how can it be a American song .?

Originally released in mono sound and then followed by a stereo version,

First released on the Philips label in Europe (BF1801) and Mercury in the US, it wasn't until it was re-released by RCA Records (RCA 2593) that it eventually hit the top spot in the UK and USA. In the UK it took only a month to reach the number one spot where it remained for an unstoppable three weeks.

  • Very nice artwork

  • great 3d work!!!! the only thing that killed it was the biped you used lol go back and make a spaceman!

  • Haha...I know right.

What can I say I was a newbie.

  • You did a much better job than I could...well...at least currently dream of.

Who knows...maybe I'll get into animation one day. I'd say it helps to be able to draw though...and that's something I'll always suck at.

    Great video. I enjoyed it.

  • lovely animation ma man :))

  • listen to this when your high in the dark

  • try listening to this while doing your homework at the same time

  • good song

  • wats this song about?

  • a guy dying in space

  • sweet vid

  • hmmm lots of death wishes out there.... if i went out this way it would have to be better like id have to be like 72 and it would have to involve saving the world somehow but still this song is awsome and so it the animation!

  • The point of this is the Challanger Explosion,In I think 67? but anyway Bowie wrote this for those who died when the Challanger Space Shuttle Exploded

  • are you serious? unless bowie is a soothsayer, this song was written @ 15 years before the challenger disaster.

  • the Challenger exploded live on TV in 1986. More likely Apollo 13 was the inspiration.

  • Do you have any concept of history? How long have you been retarded and how is it going for you? That other guy said something stupid, but you said something stupid trying to sound smart. The program was conceived of long before the 70's; the moon landing was in 1969. being dumb is bad; being dumb and condescending is worse.

  • Try reading what I wrote a little more closely before you go jumping the gun like that. I stated that we had not landed on the moon in 67. That statement indicates that I was quite aware of the landing in 69. As for the shuttle, true Von Braun had concepts for a shuttle but no real work was done on it until the end of the Saturn program. Get your own facts strait before you try to correct someone. And because I forgot to say it before, nice video.

  • Do you have any concept of history at all? In 1967 we hadn't even landed on the moon yet. The space shuttle program wasn't even conceived of until the mid to late 70's, and Challenger exploded in 1986. Now how could this possibly be about Challenger which wouldnt occur for another twenty years?

  • Amazing Animation.

    Love this song xD

  • this song is pure awesomesauce

  • kewl song

  • ground control to mager tom one of engines went \pop/ . ummm i love this clip

  • theres a commercial on tv with this song but its sung by a girl - anyone know who it is?

    btw cool vid :)

  • Don't know, thats what I am looking for now. Love her version. There is also a good version by an older group, Siagon Kick

  • yeah it's Cat Power

  • Just came back to say that and you beat me too it. She has a great voice.

  • cat power

  • David Bowie

  • who sung this?

  • Such a sad song, poor Major Tom :'(

  • Woot Tom was a fictional character, fortunately. That would be the suckiest death.

  • at least he got to space. many astronaut died during blastoff.

  • But he's non existent lol

  • I think that would be an awesome death!!

  • I'd like to go out that way...

  • Totally. I fancy the idea of going out with a bang. Like, I wanna be the first person phasered by aliens or mauled to death by Sasquatch.

  • i really dont think you realize how bad this would be. you would be floating in complete emptiness for weeks until your oxygen ran out. you would not be able to contact anybody and they could not here you if they did. then ur head would explode

  • how did you make this video

  • if i had to die some awesome way i want it to be totally fucked up like just out of no where stand in a group of people with a shotgun scream at the top of my lungs"WHO FARTED!!!" and blow my head off cuz every 1 would be sitting there like "wth...wait a second.. OMG! cover your noses that guy just killed himself!"

  • I'd rather die in re-entry.

  • Well done! This is rally good! What program did you use?

  • 3ds Max 8

  • I have to admit, this animation is really good. Even though the whole space thing is a giant metaphor and maybe it should be like multi-color/psychedelic. By the way, did you do it all by yourself?

  • I did do it all myself...

  • fav song piss funni on 'mr deeds' lol

    =]

  • saying this song is about drugs is like saying hamlet was about a queens son being jelous of the man whos banging his mom... its not :P (lol for anyone who has seen the hamlet movie knows what im talking about after he pracitcaly raped his mom) truely shakespeare has a way of making his literature twistes. obtw great vid, everytime i think of this song i think of this vid for some reason

  • dude i was fucking tripping on this video. i was just floating in space full screen madness. it twas crazy. weeeee hahaha dude

  • Glad you liked it....

  • i like the space odyssey :D

  • Does anyone know exactly what this song is about? Or is it just about some guy getting hit with an asteroid..?

  • its always reminded me of an acid trip

  • This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for david bowie

  • what a way to die, bein hit by an astroid then fallin to earth, you get remembered that way

  • THIS IS MAJOR TOM TO GROUND CONTROL xD i love this song, very good animation, be proud ;)

  • fantastic!!!

  • I am currently studding to be a 3D animator and was wondering how long this took you. THX ; )

  • A week

  • Aw. This was beautiful! Great job. I LOVE THIS!

  • beautyfull

  • beautyfull

  • dude...shut the fuck up....this is an awesome song....it's not just stoners jackass

  • cool song..kinda like Elton John's "Rocket Man"..but then again some fool might think it's bout taking drugs and getting stoned as well..lol

  • it is about drugs, but thats no need to put it down. the lyrics dont matter, its the emotions it puls out of you.

  • If I remember well, I wasn't putting it down!! I said it was a great song and it reminds me of Elton John's song "Rocket Man".

  • It can be interpreted as anything!! Drugs or not!! It can be whatever to the listener.

  • thts a fine tune

  • this is a great song one of the only ones i've teared up to

  • I will always remember this song. I heard it on "Without a Trace" a day before my father suddenly died...

  • I love this song but for some reason I tear up every time I hear it.

  • Same here, it's beautiful.

  • Now the Astronaut can leave the safety of the capsule if he dares an analogy for the Pop Star experimenting with class A and entering another stratosphere. The temptation to see what is on the other side is too great for the Astronaut and the Pop Star. At this point however, the Astronaut looses contract with Ground Control and floats into space. The pop star at this point looses control with his Ground Control and is no longer able to control his own life because his addiction is controlling it

  • OR its actually about a mission to space that went wrong. You never know :D

  • + it does not waste enough time at work.

  • Yea but that is just too simple ;-)

  • The Song is an analogy between the rise to fame of a Pop Artist and a Moon mission. The Astronaut is in contact with 'Ground Control' on which his life may depend. A person who is experiencing a rise to fame will depend on some type of 'Ground Control' i.e. intellect, self-control. Everything goes according to plan, all objectives are achieved and his 'Ground Control' tells him he has 'really made the grade'. The pop artist has reached stardom. He is being praised and is praising himself.

  • i love when they speak this out in the episode about the bermuda triangle in venture brothers...i laughed my ass off
