@QNELSON2 if it has something to do with drugs, it must mean, feeling like your flying over the world, then crashing down, the consequence being death, but as the name says "Space Oddity", it about a astronaut...
Yeah I went to the Rose Bowl concert. U2 never sang it nor ripped it off. It was the song just to open up the concert and announce the arrival of the band.
Whats all the crap about U2 I thought this was a David Bowie classic. Have U2 now ripped it off and done a cover version. Best song to listen to just as you drop a T and hang on for the ride. LOL
what a great video! it really fits :))) I started to look for this song beacause of U2's concerts :) Space Oddity is an intro song during their entrances to the stage on 360 degrees tour :)
I heard Bowie say in an interview that this song was to a great extent inspired by the mental illness of Syd Barret. And yes, I know about the reference in Ashes to Ashes.
Are you serious? Why are you watching this if your not a Bowie fan? The song ashes to ashes is a sequal to this, and the lyrics, " Ashes to Ashes, funk to funky, we know major toms a junky, strung out in heavens high, hitting an all time low".
sense when the fuck do u need to be a fan/know who the made the song to listen to the song? idk any of this guys songs or his name, i like the song and if u dont like that fuck u
David Bowie is one of the most famous singers of the past few decades, I'm not even a music fan and know him well. Course, I grew up watching Labyrinth...
This song isn't about heroin ! If that's what you see in it, you're entitled to that opinion but it doesn't have to be, and it was before Bowies drug faze. So don't announce your opinion as fact in such a way.
By the way, I'm not willing to argue the point, though I will debate if anyones up for it.
I think they're confusing this song with "Ashes to Ashes" where the lyrics state "We know Major Tom's a junky." but "Ashes to Ashes" was about his use of drugs. Wiki gives some good info on both songs regarding drugs and the suggestion of heroine being related to this song by some people.
forestgumpaed....a fact here.the name major tom was featured in three of is songs, this is one, what are the other two?the song itself is far out man.....get it....
id guess that he means the world goes on but you cant do anything while youre on heroine, from what i hear its like being all fluffy in a warm cocoon. so it might symbolise just laying there and unable to care about anything :-s
Thats exactly what its about redeyes, its about being high.."I'm floating in a most peculiar way, and the skies look very different today." I'd think it'd be obvious to anybody who's ever been through some kind of trip to know exactly what this song is about just by listening..
dude, I don't think he dies. I think he just disconects the reciever and just floats. he sorta goes nuts, as near as I can tell. although, songs are open to your interpretation.
yeah definitely. interpretation is almost 100%. I don't think he dies in the song, though I think he dies soon after. To me it seems something has gone wrong and now he's just floating away from earth and can't do anything. At first he's talking about floating above earth but after GC talks about the circuit dying he talks about floating "far above the moon". thats just my opinion though.
This song is about David Bowie when he was addicted to herion.when you shoot up you feel a rush like taking off in a rocket then "high above the moon" is when the high subsides into a floating almost dream like state and you feel sort of helplessness and the systems failing and him dieing is the crash you have when your high ends
David Bowie was never addicted to heroin. He used it occasionally, yes, but he was much more of a coke user. Why is there this grand assumption that every controversial music figure ever is addicted to heroin? I don't get it.
Yup; Elton John was addicted to coke, Keith Moon was an alcoholic, Shannon Hoon from blind melon was addicted to coke, James Honeyman-coke, not to mention the countless actors/actresses and even musicians I didn't name. Heroin's not the only bad drug, ya know
ZCeltics34 It was Hit thirty-two years ago how can it be a American song .?
Originally released in mono sound and then followed by a stereo version,
First released on the Philips label in Europe (BF1801) and Mercury in the US, it wasn't until it was re-released by RCA Records (RCA 2593) that it eventually hit the top spot in the UK and USA. In the UK it took only a month to reach the number one spot where it remained for an unstoppable three weeks.
hmmm lots of death wishes out there.... if i went out this way it would have to be better like id have to be like 72 and it would have to involve saving the world somehow but still this song is awsome and so it the animation!
The point of this is the Challanger Explosion,In I think 67? but anyway Bowie wrote this for those who died when the Challanger Space Shuttle Exploded
Do you have any concept of history? How long have you been retarded and how is it going for you? That other guy said something stupid, but you said something stupid trying to sound smart. The program was conceived of long before the 70's; the moon landing was in 1969. being dumb is bad; being dumb and condescending is worse.
Try reading what I wrote a little more closely before you go jumping the gun like that. I stated that we had not landed on the moon in 67. That statement indicates that I was quite aware of the landing in 69. As for the shuttle, true Von Braun had concepts for a shuttle but no real work was done on it until the end of the Saturn program. Get your own facts strait before you try to correct someone. And because I forgot to say it before, nice video.
Do you have any concept of history at all? In 1967 we hadn't even landed on the moon yet. The space shuttle program wasn't even conceived of until the mid to late 70's, and Challenger exploded in 1986. Now how could this possibly be about Challenger which wouldnt occur for another twenty years?
i really dont think you realize how bad this would be. you would be floating in complete emptiness for weeks until your oxygen ran out. you would not be able to contact anybody and they could not here you if they did. then ur head would explode
if i had to die some awesome way i want it to be totally fucked up like just out of no where stand in a group of people with a shotgun scream at the top of my lungs"WHO FARTED!!!" and blow my head off cuz every 1 would be sitting there like "wth...wait a second.. OMG! cover your noses that guy just killed himself!"
I have to admit, this animation is really good. Even though the whole space thing is a giant metaphor and maybe it should be like multi-color/psychedelic. By the way, did you do it all by yourself?
saying this song is about drugs is like saying hamlet was about a queens son being jelous of the man whos banging his mom... its not :P (lol for anyone who has seen the hamlet movie knows what im talking about after he pracitcaly raped his mom) truely shakespeare has a way of making his literature twistes. obtw great vid, everytime i think of this song i think of this vid for some reason
Now the Astronaut can leave the safety of the capsule if he dares an analogy for the Pop Star experimenting with class A and entering another stratosphere. The temptation to see what is on the other side is too great for the Astronaut and the Pop Star. At this point however, the Astronaut looses contract with Ground Control and floats into space. The pop star at this point looses control with his Ground Control and is no longer able to control his own life because his addiction is controlling it
The Song is an analogy between the rise to fame of a Pop Artist and a Moon mission. The Astronaut is in contact with 'Ground Control' on which his life may depend. A person who is experiencing a rise to fame will depend on some type of 'Ground Control' i.e. intellect, self-control. Everything goes according to plan, all objectives are achieved and his 'Ground Control' tells him he has 'really made the grade'. The pop artist has reached stardom. He is being praised and is praising himself.
What program is this?

Now the Astronaut can leave the safety of the capsule if he dares an analogy for the Pop Star experimenting with class A and entering another stratosphere. The temptation to see what is on the other side is too great for the Astronaut and the Pop Star. At this point however, the Astronaut looses contract with Ground Control and floats into space. The pop star at this point looses control with his Ground Control and is no longer able to control his own life because his addiction is controlling it

OR its actually about a mission to space that went wrong. You never know :D

+ it does not waste enough time at work.

Yea but that is just too simple ;-)

The Song is an analogy between the rise to fame of a Pop Artist and a Moon mission. The Astronaut is in contact with 'Ground Control' on which his life may depend. A person who is experiencing a rise to fame will depend on some type of 'Ground Control' i.e. intellect, self-control. Everything goes according to plan, all objectives are achieved and his 'Ground Control' tells him he has 'really made the grade'. The pop artist has reached stardom. He is being praised and is praising himself.
