Okay this will sort of be a sad question. I am thinking of getting two cali king snakes and it says naturally they eat other snakes. Now corn snakes especially babies seem like little guys. At pet shops they are sort of spendy so is there a place I can buy baby corns for cheap so my cali's can eat a few? I mean, they eat them in the wild and thus I want them to have that part of their diet they naturally have. I would knock out the babies before feeding so they would not hurt my cali's.
@hateseaworld Well arn't you a girl and I love animals as much as the next guy. Really I don't need to deal with you and btw I'm 12 and you should be nice. (NIGGA!)
@FireTrainer12 You can't put an animal raised in captivity in the wild because they wont know how to hunt, even if you give it to them live they wont know what to do.
Correction: actually if you want your snake to feed easilly and not be a picky eater, you shouldnt put it in warm water as this takes the scent away from it and snakes food finding senses are smell and heat detection....you should do it the alternative way,by thawing them out at room temp.
@LukeJLV boiling is definitely not a good idea, for me personally I just use very hot tap water. Make sure not to leave the mouse in for too long though, I made that mistake once and it was NOT pretty, I accidentally semi-cooked it and couldn't get the smell out of the room for days :/
guys? ok so um I want a baby corn or a ball python...but a ball python bite looks like it hurts as a juvi. or adult so i wanna corn snake 1 but there really fast like an okette at petsmart but hes fast what age do they get a but slower and calm down?
@GtaIVandNerfGuns i talked to a guy at petsmart; i don't know how true it is but he said ball pythons can be worse about biting if they're not handled regularly. he & an actual corn snake owner that i talked to said that the older the snake gets and the more it's handled, the calmer and slower it will become. not sure what age but i'm guessing about a year to a year and a half or so. if you're like me and just starting out, i'd get the corn snake.
@larry23433 Try increasing the temperature in the enclosure. If not the only way to get him back to normal is to feed him a live mouse. This stimulates the snake so its your best bet. If not get a vet to check him
@MrICYFRESH23 You can get 100 pinkies for 20$ online and the snake usually reaches about 3 feet. It may seem long but its not considering most of the time there bodies would be curled up
@MrICYFRESH23 These snakes can grow about 4-5 feet in length. They RARLY grow 6 feet, and Pinkies are about $1, depends where you live . I'm not sure about the other mice
Water should be warm NOT hot or the mouse will literally fall apart... (fur will fall off and skin will dissolve - believe me i have witnessed this!) not only that but then the mouse would be too hot for the snake to eat. Water should be good and warm and if it starts to cool then top it up with more warm. I have done it that way for more than 14 years and my snakes like and appreciate the realistic body temp in their mice, which i always achieve using the warm water method...
@MrBubblyable While that is probably the main concern feeding live, there's also the issue of snakes that just won't take to frozen/thawed... what can you do but feed them live? as long as you monitor the feeding and make sure it doesn't get the chance to bite your snake, it's a normal feed for snakes.
@SantaFishes101 uhhh... you kindof need to feed them stuff they would eat in the wild... though sometimes you can get them to eat small lizards ;)
really though, mice/rats are considered the best food for a corn snake... They take readily to them, and are inexpensive. You just have to remember that the mice you're feeding to the snake were bred for that, not to be pets... and be a great owner to both animals you own :)
I wAs readin some comments and 1. Theres nothing wrong on touchin the stupid mouse like that i do it all the time and neither of my 3 snakes have bit me before.
2. Once youve had your snake for a while it doesnt freakin matter when you handle your snakes
3. Poor guy man hes just tryin to help some people out even if he does make some mistakes. You learn throu time wats best for you and your snake
@supercommenter Well you asked a retarded question so the answer was stupid. I mean durh you can keep them all but not loose fighitng. I mean common sense/
@supercommenter I have a dog and 2 cats...A corn snake wouldn't be able to do serious harm to any of them. Plus a snake should be in its enclosure so these animals should never be in direct contact?..Aslong as you make sure your snakes enclosure is secure so it cant escape and you only handle it when supervised and no other animals are around there should be no problem
squishing the mouse in your fingers is gonna get your scent on the mouse. I thaw my mice inside a small plastic baggy. Keeps the scent of the mouse from washing off too.... These are my own opinions, so I might just be overly careful.
Your Not Ment To Put It Into Frozen Mouse In Boiling Water to fee the Snake, it takes away the taste and smell which sometimes means the snake wont eat it because he wont know its food.
I was just wondering, i have a small grass snake ( around 7-8 inches long) and im not sure what to food him, could i feed him grasshoppers/crickets if so. can i feed him with tongs, like this viedo instructs.
i would research it if i were you, but if you know thats what they eat, you should maybe get live ones and put them in for it to eat, thats what my friend did with her lizards
u no some ppl say feedin rats to snakes r disgustin but a dead rat is no different to a dead chicken or pig....its meat for the snake like us humans eat meat from pigs cows chickens and all that......so yh i really wanna get a snake =]...they r soooo cute and pretty XD
definitely feed any reptile that you might be handling out of its cage. but like small animals like anoles I dont bother with only because a couple of them have escaped from me when i was trying to take them out for feeding

feeding from the hand is bad as youre scent goes on the mouse so if you handle youre snake alot it will smell youre scent and think there is food on the way and wont make for good handling
i think corns are the same as us lol each has there own traits and personality so i suppose im just commenting on how my first reacted but like you say everyone is diffrent from the next lol
i just got a corn snake who is about a year old and i looked at her feeding schedule and on average the pet store would feed her every 25 days. should i keep that schedule or feed her more often
