If Obama is the leader, why is he following the same path as George Bush, but faster. I will happily send my Moneybomb contributions to Peter Schiff, in hopes we can avert becoming just like the Weimar Republic or Zimbabwe.
Totally agree with someone else's regarding Peter's lack of experience ruining the country. Nice rejoinder to a BS critique. Experience in politics - Lord help us from politicians and other who want to suck the citizen dry like vampires (or leeches...)
right on - beware politician "experience" that steals your money, tramples your rights, and oppresses your freedoms. being from the socialist republic of new york, i envy CT voters.
Go Peter Schiff!! I'm excited to know that he is running. Though, I am not happy about how he is already being lambasted by the true RINOs (who don't understand their own roots) and the leftists.
Good luck, Peter! You will get more comfortable as the game gets rolling. This is just kickoff.. Don't let those "experienced" politicians get the best of you!
Peter Schiff is incredibly consistent and principled with his views - it's refreshingly respectable and it's some real medicine for an insanely-run congress. Just keep telling the truth, Peter! Eventually the truth wins out - let's just make sure it's realized by the election!
war is not a luxury it is real problem with real direct and colateral damage, all that TARP money has gone to grease the Military Industrial Complexity
I feel happy for Schiff. His father has been fighting the IRS and government from within the courts, a futile undertaking since the courts will never bite the hand that feeds them. Peter is willing to make changes from the legislature - I hope he is able to make a mark.
What do you mean with "too far right"? What does that entail? And why would that be a particularly bad thing? If you could explain it, it would enrich the discussion and allow you to make your case - otherwise, it is all opinion and subjectivism.
As in he is viewing things way too far from the right wing.
He may have said the housing market was going to collapse, so did my Econs Prof in Uni in 2004. My prof was wrong in that he thought that the house of cards would collapse in 2007.
Going back to this guy, he is way too ideological. He is like Austrian economics good, Keynesian bad; when both are just methods of running a nation's economy. He is a neo-Friedman guy. That is as bad as being a neo-Chomsky.
Ridiculous. Fiat money always destroys itself. There aren't any instances of it NOT happening in all of human history.
The Federal Reserve system doesn't work as advertised. You don't have to be an Austrian to see that. Hell, its PROPONENTS admit to destroying over 95% of the Reserve note buying power since the Fed was enacted.
Keynesian economics are the true "voodoo" economics. ("Animal spirits my arse.). It's fundamentally dishonest and destructive. And it's going to destroy our country.
That is the far right argument. Keynesian and Austrian economics can work if implemented well. Keynesian economics is definitely not voodoo economics, it works and has been for a long time in history...
It is like hockey. You can play offensive or defensive to win the game if you play it right...
Too ideological? If you listen to the vast majority of those in the Congress currently, you will find they have NO thought process regarding the economy. It's just follow the leader and the leadership is. . . who?. .
So I thought it was a semi-exciting news, but he's running as a Republican. How can he expect to be taken seriously as an opponent of big-spending government if he's running for the GOP?
Real Republican? I dont think so. Hes pro choice, against the war, for legalization of weed and so on. Theres a fine line between repub and libertarians and I think Schiff is just left of that line.
Schiff is no republican, just like Ron Paul hes a RINO
If he tried it as an independent, he would not be able to enter the debates nor have the same media coverage as a republican (or democrat) candidate. The system is rigged against independents, which is why Washington is under the chokehold of only 2 parties.
There has never been a better time for someone like Rand Paul or Peter Schiff to run as an independent. YouTube is their debate platform. They excite people enough to collect millions from ordinary joes, the way they did for Ron Paul and Obama during 2007 and 2008. But somehow they don't have the balls. They'll become tethered to their big corporate contributors and rigid party structure, and they won't change anything.
Indeed, they do entice a lot of support, but unfortunately, the system itself is rigged to keep independents out. So if you want to see Peter in the Senate, it will have to be as a Republican or Democrat, until he can have an opportunity to help lower the barrier for independent candidates. Otherwise, he will have little chance of debating his opponents directly; he would spend thousands MORE trying to comply with McCain-Feingold than his non independent opponents. This is his best chance 2 win
The middle aged and senior citizens, who vote in much larger numbers, do not watch YouTube. So candidates like Rand and Schiff have to make their pitch to these groups, too, and they do that by running in the conventional way, but raising funds from the grassroots all across the country. That's how they avoid being tethered to the corporate contributors.
Whether 2 good senators can change anything is another question, and I agree, the jury's out on that one. But we could be pleasantly surprised.
Sadly, Schiff if screwed. Linda McMahon joined the race, so she's going to split the non-traditional vote and probably the hand the win to the establishment Republican.
if all the other rinos agree with bernanke that we're in recovery and schiff says we're not and is proven correct that could get him the republican nomination.
Yes, run against someone who is retiring.

Folks in CT would be a fool to pass up the opportunity to have such a brilliant Austrian economist representing them in the District of Corruption.
