Great comment. It's so very true. One of the things that drew me to Islam was how clearly everything was drawn out. Our obligations to the poor are an obligation to Allah(swt).

The disproportionate distribution of wealth worldwide is hideous in so many ways.

I think the most important thing is recognizing your blessings, or fortune, and not squandering it. And even better, spread it around a little :)

I think sometimes its part of the human condition to never be satisfied. We often have to consciously remind ourselves of our blessings. Thankfully Islam has implemented teachings and duties so that we do not forget those less fortunate than us.

In the end, though, we are all tested. The poor are tested with their circumstances, and how they react to it, and so are those who have abundant means. Insha'Allah we are all mindful of that.
