  • What do you think of Spyderco sharp Maker that are so popular ? Especially for BKRV Bravo One Convex ?

  • @urkingod if you use a sharpmaker which is a fixed angle sharpener on a convex knife you will spend a long time grinding with no effect before you grind away the convex and force the edge to be a v-edge that the sharpmaker wants it to be. So.. you can, but I'd say its a waste of time and money. a piece of sandpaper and a strop will keep it sharp for almost forever. Personally I am not a fan of Fixed angle sharpeners unless you bought a knife that you know is that exact angle.

  • Oh, and if you have a belt sander, you can get the hard work done very quickly before moving to hand sanding..

What size blade are you starting with? and what thickness is the spine and bevel.

  • I want to start making convex edges with sandpaper. Do you recommend make a strop type thing with it? Can you post a video convexing with sandpaper?

  • if you already have a capable edge, you shouldn't need to go under 800grit.. normally 1000, 1500 are suitable for when stropping no longer works.. 400-600 are good for minor dings (very minor) or redoing the bevel. 120 and 220/240 are suitable for reprofiling and edge and applying a convex edge to a blade. Apart from reprofiling, a very light touch is applied, like brushing your skin with a feather.

  • Great kit! I wish I had the skill to use various grits of sandpaper, but I'm unwilling to risk my blades to learn.

    What do you suggest?

  • I have found that Wet & Dry is the only paper worth using, and then there are very different grades.. Actually, the Cheapest one I bought, works the best, Silicone Carbide paper. Each Grit Distinctly feels grittier :) and you can see the steel wiping off with only very light touch.

  • That's actually pretty neat. I've been meaning to test out the sandpaper method, but I just can't seem to give up my stones.
