For the "No child left behind" bill you can search for an interview here on youtube (Barack Obama: No Child Left Behind). If I got that right he would modify the bill because standardized testing is bad, while tracking individual student progress and providing ressources for schools would be more likely to bring something good.

Both of his parents passed away, he has half-sister who is a teacher in Hawaii, one of his grandmothers is still alive in the US, and he has a grand-mother and many cousins, half-siblings, and step-siblings living in Africa.

He has written two books and both Time magazine and The New York Times have written articles about his mother who passed away in 1995 from cancer. There is lots of information out there about his American grandparents from Kansas - I believe his grandmother also passed - and his Kenyan father and grandmother (there's a youtube video with his grandma). His most influential family members would be his maternal family - his mother and grandparents - since his father left when he was 2 years old.
