Guys it's great that you're expressing your opinions, but I have to strongly disagree. I only started listening to Cage this year (2011 I mean) and I heard most of this album before their debut. I think it's experimental and different, but not necessarily a bad mix of songs. Their old album is awesome too, and this one is to die for. It's so annoying when all Americans are doing just pop and rap or something like that. This band is a wonderful variation. The vocalist looks like Kurt Cobain but it's doesn't matter. Who wouldn't like him? Cage the Elephant is not Nirvana. I have to say that I prefer Nirvana but this band is also very cool.

I had never heard of Cage The Elephant untill I heard "Shake me Down" on VH1...I bought "Thank You Happy Birthday" and expected all the songs to sound pretty similar; something obvious and out of touch...BUT HOLY HELL, NOBODY WAS EXPECTING ANYTHING THIS AWESOME :DD . There is night and day difference between this band's mediocre form on their first record and almost brilliant form on their second. It really is a breath of fresh air to hear a major label allow a record like this one to be released. As for this song, it kinda sounds like brainiac-- awesome!! I love all of the songs on this album. It could be split-up into 2 albums: Psycadelic and Hard-core. Either way, hey are spot-on. I think that most people would not like this album if they only liked "Ain't No Rest For the Wicked" or "Back Against The Wall". Either way, it's great to see that a fairly new band can throw themselves out there with "unpopular" music and not even try to be "popular". I hope that they don't and gradually become popular.

This is only the 3rd song I have listened to because I have been listening to it and shake me down so many times. xD

Love it. This album is a lot different than the first, but that's good. I love them both. They showed they can pull off another style, in this case harder rock. They are kind of doing what KOL did... first album had a distinct sound (straight southern rock in KOL's case, kind of a bluesy-punk rock in CTE's), then both bands got more experimental with the second album, and in my opinion sounded great in doing so. Hopefully they don't continue down the KOL path and sell out though.
