This is a technology that actually has a future. I don't know why GM is wasting time on the Volt when they could have cornered EV market. The Volt cost as much as two cars, weighs almost as much as two cars, and has almost enough parts in it to make two cars. No matter how cheap batteries get, the price will never go down enough to break even, much less save money. Nissan is going to own the EV market! They are offering a product middle class people can actually use and save money with.
This car has more smug emissions coming out the cabin then out it missing exhaust pipe. I love the earth killer statement. The gas engine has really help'd the modern life style we have and has been feeding the plants co2 to help them turn green. The electric car has done nothing to build the modern world or helped people make ends meet. It just a fancy status symbol of the well to do's.
While the contribution of the combustion engine to society is tremendous it is also important to refer that the technology is almost 200 years old. Quite simply, the electric engine is a better technology, no longer hindered by the quality of the batteries.
Also your statement of "we produce CO2 to help plants turn green" is ridiculous. All of aerobic life forms on Earth produce more than enough CO2 to support even twice of all plants in the world.
@TrailersForthePeople Heres my beef I wish people wouldn't be so stuck up about a new product its a big turn off to me no matter how great it is. I like to know how people are going to charge up this car because 90% of the U.S. is not ready for this car. Sure certain areas of the west but for the rest of us in gasoline country not hanging out at home charging a battery where do we go? 100 miles isn't nothing I drive that and more daily. Great idea but limited range and limited charging places.
the electric engine is a good 80 yrs younger than the combustion engine. You raise valid points, the 100 mile range will not fit everybody, but we gotta start somewhere. The next battery generation will probably have much more, but even if this car is only valid in east+west coast, it's still much less gas being the US as a whole.
@TrailersForthePeople I agree we have to start somewhere. The home charging systems coming into the market place is also going to add a bigger cost but I hope they offer it with the car as a whole package unit. Ford is offering their chargers via best buy with geek squad install. The one thing they offer with electrics is tax credits but they artifically inflate your imcome so affordibilty is questionable. Like anything with time will tell. Peace
@egn83b i'm from Texas and i love this car and the GM Volt. They're great. not all people in "gasoline" country drive far to work. i have a relatively short commute.

Good summary of the features of the car, thanks. It's at the top of my list of cars to replace my old Saturn when it gives up the ghost.
