Yes, a pickup that goes to a KP2 fx box. The audio you hear is reversed with a slight delay. Sometimes thumb pianos sound too much like doorbells. This is a simple example of adding some texture to the sound, to "un-pretty" it and move it more in a noise direction.
Thanx for info'. I agree, sometimes a buzz improves sound, gives it depth etc. African thumb pianos add caps off beer bottles to serve similar purpose. I would like to hear this played without pick up. Played as African piano in a large gourd or bowl to amplify gently. Thanx
The tuning is determined by the length of tine beyond the bridge. Using a hammer, you can tap the tine to shorten or lengthen the tine. Or use pliers to pull or push the tine for similar results, or undo the tension and do it by hand. Or you can trim length by cutting and fine tune by removing metal from the playing end of the tine.
I saw all the pictures of your kalimba's on your site. I would love to make my own. I would like to make a kalimba out of a speaker so that I could plug it into an amp. I thought that a speaker would have the plug ins already.
A speaker for the piano body will likely have feedback issues depending on the pickup you use. The tines in the above video are pieces of electrician's snake, used to thread wires thru conduit. There are descriptions of more tines and options at the Instructables link, under About This Video, click on *more*..
I thought the first really fast part sounded like something from the Matrix haha.
I also think it might be on a pot? It looks like a chopping block on a pot or something, coz of the two silver handles you can see. That would explain the kool acoustics.
In this instance I am using the Kaoss Pad. It is listed in the tags for the video. Browse the tags, click on *kaoss* and it will take you to other videos that use the pad.
