Been looking for this movie since I heard of its existence years ago. His Book and recording is in the Smithsonian. The Book is "The steeldrums of Kim Loy Wong"
This is wonderful and tugs at the heart strings of those who spent time in T&T along the years. Physically the pan has travelled a long way, and luckily we still have many of the old pans (and panmen!) playing fairly similarly at limes today in the UK. Others have stretched the abilities of pan so far they have almost lost sight of what they are and where they come from, unfortunately, and some just consider maintaining the roots of the instrument are old fashioned, but me for this!
@romatz1Yes. I believe it was upstate beacon, new york. I was fortunate enough to perform with Pete and my father kim loy wong a few years back at the very same camp in beacon. in 1957, 1 year later he brought my dad to the u.s. to introduce them to the world. rest is history…..
Excellent documentary. This is a nice reference pointas to how far the steel drum has come in fifty plus years.
This would have a typical scene in many a neighborhood steelband (pan) yard in the fifties and early sixties, and brings back pleasant memories to this long time lover of the steelband.
Thanks for posting... This film is hard to find!

Does anyone know where Pete Seeger's school was that he took the pans back to?
