@CGpib You can move up in the ranks (im currently a Lance Corporal) and you get new recruits/more training and get chosen to (as in my case) go to JLS or (if sergeant) SLS. There are also parades and other things deppending on what Unit your from

Well Young Marine, here is the answer to your question. You may wear your covers on your drill deck, for certain things I.E graduation. The rifles are also the unit commanders choice, if they prefer those, that is what they will use. So don't sweat it. Good observation though.
