  • You dummy...Eight Belles was NOT MURDERED. Accidents happen, plain and simple. They did what was in the best intrest of the horse. Breaking any bone in the leg is very painful to the horse, mainly because of how they're built. When you get a decent brain in your head, leave me a comment

  • Murdered? No, ALYDAR was murdered.

  • TROLL!!!

  • Murdered is not what happened at all. Eight Bells broke both her ankles. Anyone who knows about horses would know that most horses don't recover from leg injuries and have to be put down, not murdered. It was either that or she would have to live out the rest of her life in pain.

  • oh and the day just goes on has the owners make money and the jockeys and the race track,,,,but lets just stop abusing these animals

  • "murdered" would you rather her be living with two broken legs?

  • @TheSqueenie "the race horse industry is the number one contributing industry to the horse overpopulation" --> not true. More than 150k QH are registered each year worldwide while the TB industry has around 40k registered each year worldwide. Its estimated that as much as 70% of all the U.S. horses sold to slaughter are QH/QH types while TB's account for (estimated) 10-15% of sales.

  • whos the slut at 2:00 nice rack!!

  • She wasn't murdered. A horse with one broken leg can be rehabilitated sometimes, depending on the break itself. WIth a harness strap that bares most of their wieght and is attached to a moving system connected to the cieling of the stall. And with rehabilitation they can walk again, never race, and never be a rideable horse. Horses legs are really thin. However a horse with two broken legs really can not have any good form of life after that trauma. 25 years of owning an caring for horses.

  • your such a dumbass . . .

  • Good luck with that theory.

  • i have owned and raised and raced horses for 15 years and you can not tell me the owners and trainers did not know this mare was unsound. should we ban all horse racing, of course not, should the owners and trainers be held accountable of course they should be, but i to say the horse was murdered, that is ridiculous, but i know when my horse is not sound and you dont race in that condition.

  • @glorybound11 How horrible! What a terrible thing, to put a horse - a Filly! - at risk. YES, owners & trainers should be held accountable! This was a BAD KDerby!

  • she was not, in any way, shape or form murdered!!! eight belles was suffering... it would be MORE inhumane for us to force her to live in pain. grow up.

  • she was not murdered! There was nothing her owners could do for her. It would have been too much pain to let her live, and then she might have died anyways. It's a hard fact to learn in life, but sometimes you have to let things go.

    R.I.P. Eight Belles!

  • Something people need to understand, it is not only race horses who break there legs and have to be put down. I have seen jumpers at my barn be put down for shattering his leg. Accidents happen in any sport you compete in with horses, its not just racing, and saying that people in racing only care about the money is a stereotype, because i for one am the kind of person who does what i do because of my never ending love of horses.

  • @sk8rgrrl94 Ha!, never ending love of horses?... LMAO!... You could only know love if you don't need that person or animal for a specific purpose; if you just want to be with them and spend time together not necessarily doing something, you obviously need to USE horses for something that satisfies your needs and wants, very different view from someone who truly loves horses, so I understand how you could never get the point I am trying to make.

  • @TheSqueenie Im sorry but you are a very ignorant person. If you knew me you would know that my entire life is my horse, my EX-RACEHORSE btw. I spend every waking hour with him and he means the world to me. I love horses to there entirety, ever since i was little. I think horses are beautiful. And im sorry if our views are different, but if you have no knowledge of the life of a racehorse besides what you see on TV or in the paper, then you should not criticize someone who is personally involved

  • @sk8rgrrl94 Call me what you wish, I actually volunteered for a non profit ex-race horse rescue for 4 years and I have seen the faces and the bodies of these damaged horses, whom do not even develop fully before being raced, at the age of 4 and 5 the once I saw and worked with were very damaged, most of them end up heading to the meat buyers, because there are just too many being produced and too few are considered good racing horses, they are discarted of, have no value to the wealthy owners

  • @sk8rgrrl94, and also, the race horse industry is the number one contributing industry to the horse overpopulation, so a real horse lover would not want to contribute in any way, shape or form towards unwanted horses and horses ending up on their way to Canada or Mexico... you are delusional and I feel for your animals.

  • @TheSqueenie ha..the industry you mention last should be your top concern, not racing. Maybe you should look at horse owners in general who choose to abuse there horses. You can't pick on industry to blame it all on when its all the horse related industrys. I to volunteer at ex-racehorse rehab centers and donate money there, i plan on running my own one day. Im speaking for myself, not all other trainers. I am the kind who cares about the horses, i don't treat them like junk.

  • This is such a disgusting business, all of these "horse lovers" who "won" could give less of a shit about a horse being injured and put down... all they care about is the money. I hope Karma gets all of these low lives who support the horse racing industry...

  • @TheSqueenie I can truthfully say you don't know what you are talking about. I am currently going to college to be a racehorse trainer, not because of the money, but because i love horses, thoroughbreds, and i think its a beautiful sport, something you have to fight and work hard for. Its just like any other sport, it is dangerous, yet we still do it. Jumping is just as dangerous yet we still do it. People like you who know nothing about racing should not comment, its very iggnorant

  • @sk8rgrrl94 I can say the same about you. You need to take your blinders off, horses races does not look out for the animal's best interest, it only looks to entertain people and gamble, not even make money because most people that own the horses spend more than they make... keep telling yourself this to make yourself feel less guilty, if you REALLY loves horses you would want to see them be horses and not be used for business and entertainment. Jumping is just as bad.

  • @TheSqueenie I can tell you one thing, the trainers and jockeys, the ones who take care of the horses love them. Everyone else who gambles is in it for the money. I personally know some owners who adore their horses, not just because of the money. The way you see racing is so narrow minded a 2 year old could come up with the same opinion. My philosophy is let the horse be a horse, it will be happier, and there for do better.

  • She was not murdered. It was the most humane thing that the owners/vets could do. There is a picture of her trying to stand and her ankles are bent BACKWARDS at a 90 degree angle. It was very obvious that she would never have been able to walk again. It is absolutely heartbreaking, yes. Many horses can and do recover from fractures, but I believe in this case, she would have ended up going into shock and dying anyways.

  • If you know and love horses, not everything can be saved. Breaks to both fronts, they wouldnt have healed, as the horse would need to stand on the very breaks. Is that what you would have wished for her? Immediate relief, or live out her life in constant agony?

  • It's such a shame that this had to happen to such a promising filly. But as everybody else says, it was the best. Nothing could be done, and to 'save' her would only end up torturing her, because of all the pain.

  • You are so stupid she was NOT murdered!!! horses rarely recover from braking both their front legs even if they do they'll always be in pain, you can't even blame this on racing. freak accidents like this happen, she could've had this same fall running around in a pasture. yes it is very very sad when you have to put your horse down. this doesn't only happen to horses people but there cats, dogs, birds, etc down all the time to put their animals out of misery.

  • @LiveBreathHorses You are the ignorant one, she was murdered by the idiots who made her run and the same stupid insdustry who is as hearless as you are..

  • @LiveBreathHorses You say horses 'rarely' recover from breaking both front legs. Many horses dont recover from breaking ONE leg. Do you know of even one instance of a horse recovering from breaking both legs? As far as I am aware it has never happened and is considered impossible.

  • I LOVE HORSES.........BUT, I AM SICK OF RACING HORSES, FOR THIS VERY REASON........ THEY GET INJURIES, AND THEN THE OWNER, DOES NOT WANT THEM ANYMORE... IT MAKES ME SICK... IT IS ALL ABOUT THE THE MONEY... THEY SHOULD BAN HORSE RACING... HORSES ARE FORCED TO RUN, WHEN THEY DON'T WANT TO...

    \

  • @Hanna43797 it's really not all about the money my friend races horses but she does the one with the cart thingy. she cares more about the safety of her horse then money. she doesn't even pay attention to the money. if her horse loses she doesn't blow up because she didn't get the money she's just happy that her horse went out there and tried his best.

  • OK....Eight Belles was not MURDERED, she had to be put down because she was in so much pain and horses can't live without use of all four legs. It would have been more awful to let her live.

  • I will never forgive Dutrow..classless..Kent on the other hand was clearly upset and not jumping up and down as he was there to see her fall.

  • GAH! retardation. A GREAT mare had to be PUT DOWN and they're celebrating. They dont even stop to consider that a soul, a horse, will never walk this earth again, unless it is in spirit. The vet was the ONLY concerned one that i saw. the ONLY one. Some people are to corrupted with all these wordly things. >:(

  • @horsellover02 To be fair, I'm not sure they knew what happened. We only knew this because we were watching news, but they may not have been at an angle to see her fall.

  • @hidenseeker424 ... true... but, the owners knew, as did the owners of the horse that won. I do understand that there is tons of money fed into horse racing, but it doesnt make it right.

  • she was not murdered! it would have been murder to make her suffer more then she had just waiting for them to HUMANELY euthianise her!

  • thanks

  • Who was the idiot to name this murdered...educate yourself in the Equine world..dumbass.

  • Murdered is absolutely not the right word. There are dangers that come with the sport of horse racing, but the same thing could happen in jumping, dressage, reining/cutting, polo..... ANY sport associated with equines is always dangerous. If a horse does not like racing, it will NOT run. We have standard breds and one of our fillies just didnt want anything to do with it. These people did the right thing, and Eight Belles died going what she loved,

  • okay, well i still say they are...... so you have ur opinions, I have mine :D!!!!!

  • @TheJKoKo No, they really don't beat the shit out of them. If a jockey overuses a whip they get suspended. Period. If the horse comes back with welts or blood from the whip, the jockey gets suspended. If the horse is in a position where it's clear they have nothing left to give and the jockey whips them out of frustration, they get suspended. Yes, they're THERE (come on, that's an elementary mistake) so they run faster. It is the same concept as with a regular riding horse.. motivate them to GO.

  • Eff you guys. She wasnt murdered. Get a life.

  • yeah it still gets to me..that the winners could careless if Eight Belles got hurt and was put down. pisses ya off!!

  • Horse racing is cruel to the horses.

  • They didn't murder her! They had to put her down! They didn't just shoot her and say oh well! They cared about her! When a horse so seriously injured like that, it's too painful to make them deal with the pain any longer than they have to. It's very sad but sometimes you can't help it.

  • she wasnt MURDERED people! she had two broken legs! a racehorse cant take that much pain. she couldnt take it anymore!!!

  • wow, obviously the poster has no clue about horse racing. The doctors saved the horse from a slow painful death

  • you know, yeah, really awesome that the owners of Big Brown won, but come on. a really great horse just broke both front legs and was eauthanized. if they really cared about horses, maybe they would have realized, "oh yeah, a horse with 2 BROKEN LEGS......"

Maybe they would have had some sympathy. So, its great that they won, but they should have had a little care in their hearts.

  • ok.. either one.. you are nothing but a worthless troll who posted this JUST to upset the masses. or two.. you are the stupidest person who don't even bother to educate yourself. If you are part of PETA, I have to warn you that PETA MURDERS 100% perfectly healthy, not sick, no broken legs, nothing.. animals because they do not want to find homes for them. So Go look in the freaking mirror you fucking moron. You are part of a company that murders innocent HEALTHY animals. Kittens and puppies to.

  • @Kayiko who PETA doesn't even allow them to have a chance as a life at all! This video seriously.. proves to EVERYONE here... how completely stupid and uneducated you are. You just made yourself look like a huge failure.. and I will join in everyone else and laugh at your stupidity. You don't even respect yourself to educate yourself about what you are bitching about. How pathetic.

  • WTF is up with ppl saying HORSES love to run blah blah blah!

If a horse is raised to buck, it will. If it's raised to jump, that's what it's learned to do. If it's raised to run, it will. That's the only thing they are taught to do, so they do it. If you truly think they wanna run, don't use a whip. Right? I thought they love it, and will give it everything they got. No need for drugs, whips, etc.

  • @psychojoker131 Have you ever ridden a horse with a crop? I'm sure you have. Everyone's ridden a horse with a crop. Not every horse needs a crop, but some of them do. It's kinda the same thing. Gets their attention when they're drifting off. Reminds them who's in charge. Gets them to focus and hurry up. There's nothing wrong with crops in any discipline when used properly, racing included.

  • @Jailbirdx Yes I get your point, I always did. But I hate when people that actualy have a twisted mind are like "im gonna beat the crap out of him with the whip today." and enjoy using it, thinking they are the boss of the animal, the animal does have a life, and us humans shouldnt force them to do things unless they chose to. So yeah, I just hate when ppl think all horse love to run, matter what. Alot of owners/jockeys just race for money, & do whatever it takes 2 win. Even if its abusive

  • @psychojoker131 That "I'm gonna beat the crap out of him with the whip today" mindset is penalized with a suspension and possible fine from the Jockey Club. The JC takes racing very seriously and does not tolerate blatant abuse like overusing the whip.. Most jockeys aren't stupid enough to try their luck. A suspension means loss of income. Owners and trainers aren't going to want an abuser to ride their horses anymore.

  • and she would only panic and make things worse. I think the racing-industry or whatever is too harsh and cold and in some way like animal cruelty, but it's better for her to die than to live with both legs broken. I don't think they would be able to fix her anyways. Very sad though, it's tragic!

  • excuse me, she is not murdered, she is euthanized, what else should they do? You can't let her live with injuries like that, they wouldn't be able to save her, and a horse will ALWAYS try to stand up, believe me, and with both legs broken she can't

  • First of all, they did not kill eight Belles because they wanted to. if they let her live, she would have been in pain every step she took. They almost had to put her down. Second the stupid Big Brown owners didn't care!

  • The owner of this video doesn't understand it at all

  • curse the big brown owners

  • you can too save a horse from two broken legs, its called a pully...my father and i did that with one of my horses and now we are running and jumping and swimming and everything together. they killed her before they even gave her a chance. learn more about horses before you make a hurtful comment like that.

  • @Kayona1992 sorry to tell you but you cant save a horse with two broken front legs its not possible even with a pully just talk to the people who owned barbaro and spent thousands of dollars trying to save him and couldnt they even used a pully and he only had 1 broken leg

  • @RevanMahariel Whatever that man is accused of in the past, if people like that are still in the sport, then I am glad that I no longer race competitively, nor do I train to race competitively. If my horses want a run, I usually turn them lose in the meadow and let them run and roll around, or I'll take them out and go for a long ride. I agree that these horses want to run, but don't agree with the breeding practices some people use.

  • @sereneprncs Yes, the way TBs are being bred is very foolish and detrimental to the horses (it's not as bad as the way halter quarter horses are bred though, I'll admit). Modern TBs generally flame out early, don't race often, and are more prone to injury and breakdowns. They're just not built solidly enough. And being raced so young certainly doesn't help matters. I love horse-racing, but it needs some serious reformation (along with many other equine sports/disciplines).

  • people are crazy. these horses LOVE to run! Its what they WANT to do. Have you ever rode a Thoroughbred? If you would ride one, you can feel the urge and want to run inside their muscles, just BEGGING to break free. If you do not let the horse run, THAT is animal abuse.

  • If you love horses you wouldn't race them and expose them to the risk in the first place. But greed usually wins out

  • @Goatoftheforest Except thoroughbred horses are bred to race, so if there was no racing the horses would not exist in the first place to be "loved". So your remark lacks common sense and is idiotic.

  • @altohart That's like saying greyhounds wouldn't exist if there were no dog races. They would exist but instead of being used like a money making object, they might be kept as pets more often. Go ahead and watch horse racing, just don't claim it's good for the horses.

  • Fact: horses weigh at least three times as much as a human; and that's a *small* horse. They walk and run on the equivalent of their FINGERNAILS. Average of a thousand pounds and many times even more than a thousand pounds of animal relying on their fingernails to support them! Their bodies are NOT like human bodies; they cannot tolerate very many interventions to recover from such an injury; even overeating kills horses- fragile animals. No this was not murder; it was the only humane action.

  • What really infuriates me is that scumbag drug-pumper Dutrow not giving a damn about Eight Belles. Same goes for everyone else who could care less. If my horse won the KD, or any race for that matter, but another horse fucking DIED, I would not be feeling happy and triumphant at all. Why? Because an individual just lost their life. It's unbelievable how heartless humans are towards our fellow animals.

  • @RevanMahariel My only guess is that he may not have known the extent of her injuries at the time. I mean, yeah, he's thrilled that his horse won, but most trainers/owners/riders that participate in the sport won't sit there and go all crazy like that at a win if it's at the expense of another horse's life.

  • @sereneprncs Ah, but we're talking about Rick Dutrow here. He could care less about horses. Like I said, he uses steroids on 'em and he burned down barns in the sixties, which resulted in the deaths of a mass of horses. He's an extremely cruel man, and a murderer, who only cares about the money. So even if he didn't know at the time and found out later about Eight Belles, I'm quite certain he didn't give a damn. He needs to be banned, or better yet tortured mercilessly for the rest of his life.

  • regardless of the pain and suffering they will go through. Surely the human being does not want someone to walk to their side and say "well you broke your leg in three places, your hopeless and surely you don't want to endure any more pain so now we will uethanize you. What gives when it comes to the animals? Seriously would you want to uethanize a relative or close friend when they got seriously hurt? COME ON PEOPLE! ANIMALS WILL FIGHT TO LIVE if we humans would give them a chance!

  • @RottyFan1 A horse CANNOT recover from something like that. She would be in so much pain, she'd have HUGE risk of infection, and no matter how much she would fight, there is literally NOTHING you can do when a horse breaks BOTH front ankles, and when the bone goes throught the skin especially. Chances are, she would have been in so much pain, she would have just given up the will to live. YES, animals DO do that, I have seen it with my own eyes.

  • @RottyFan1 if a horse breaks to legs, can't stand, and has to lie down for multiple weeks, her insides will get crushed, and that would be cruel. if they tried to sling her, odds are she would get laminitis and go through extreme pain from that. horses just can't stand on three legs either. there is virtually no way to save them if 2 legs are broken.

  • @RottyFan1 A horses leg.. is it's life. Take one away, and the horse can -barely- make it. Take two away? There is nothing anyone can do to save it. Not with 2 broken front legs.Horses are not like humans, or dogs, or cats. Or other types of animals. Go read about Barboro. And you will see what happens to a horse when you try to save even one leg. The weight they put on the other legs causes laminitis. a very painful hoof infection. Barboro lost almost his whole left hoof do to it.

  • I have a question and I mean it sincerily. We humans claim that uethanizing and animal who has suffered a broken leg, ankle, or any other bone to be a act of kindness and to keep the animal from suffering. Yet every day humans suffer all kinds of horrible injuries including breaking multiple bones through out the body, mutilation as a result of injury, limbs removed because they are "un repairable" etc etc etc and we never think twice about it cuz SURELY the human being wants to live

  • @RottyFan1 A horse wants to live too, but breaks in horses legs are very complex. A horse cannot spend its complete time healing in a sling, or laying down. Humans are easy to fix, because we can say "Okay, don't move this part of your arm for several months". We can't do that with a horse.

  • She was NOT murdered!! She broke both of her front ankles and there was no way to save her.

  • GravySnifter, I've seen your other videos. You appear to be a very misguided individual.

  • Her tendon fell apart, no chance to save her.

  • HOJE 3 ANOS SEM EIGHT BELLES REST IN PEACE, : (

  • what an idiotic title. horses are born to run that is all they want to do. i loved this horse and bet on her everytime she ran. yes she was the only filly but ran SECOND. that should tell you she belonged in the race. it sucks but tragedies happen in every sport. yes i cried.

  • @razorbacker63 did you ask them what they want t do ye? lol :p

  • i can't believe that you would post this saying she was murdered, she was not. it was best for her and her safety to be HUMANLY uthinized. i mean come on, would you want to see the poor girl suffer? they had no other choice, a horse depends on it's front legs, thats where all of its weight goes first and if can't use them, then what the point of sitll being alive? your so dumb, i would love to slap some sense into because you don't see it from both sides. you should take this video down

  • How could you even dare to say that she was murdered at the Derby. She wasent murdered it was an ACCIDENT ok.And they couldent save her she broke her two front legs. Would you want here to suffer or rest in peace?

  • I find it interesting the only female horse in the race is the one that died... can anyone pronounce NEGLIGENCE. Oh wait, its an animal, who gives a sh*t, right?

  • @pokerrich9 what does that have to do with anything? as if they did it on purpose!

  • @pokerrich9 fuck you dude, animals have hearts and are living beings, they deserve a chance, but in this case she didn't have one but to say no one gives a shit is just horrible. just because they don't have a voice doesn't mean they can't speak to us. i hope you get tortured later in life and kept in a basement where no one can hear you, and then maybe you'll understand how it feels

  • @pokerrich Your a dumb ass. Dont stick your comments in where they dont fit.

  • If you really loved Eight Belles that much, you wouldn't have wanted her to suffer, which is what was happening to her. She was suffering and would have suffered from any supposed "treatment" measures, all of which would have just prolonged her intense pain. Calling it "murder" is just selfish on your part.

  • I hate that the winners were so happy, I mean yeah they won, but still, a great horse has just been hurt and the put to sleep, have some sympathy!

  • @krissykk1618 Agreed.

  • @krissykk1618 Its well known that people that race horses are total scumbags.

  • @krissykk1618Horses who are racehorses live longer than wild horses, and dont you think that a horse in the wild has a lot more to deal with injury wise they also get vaccines for viruses when they have owners, they get fed regularly, and don't you think a horse just wouldn't run if it didn't want to. And honestly, about 1 in every one thousand horses break down, do you not think one in every one thousand wild horses die prematurely? Please get to know the sport better before you criticize it

  • @missmissy22556 It's well known that there is a common misconception about people that race horses. I happen to actually KNOW people that work with racehorses, including a standardbred trainer. Contrary to popular belief, they are NOT all scumbags.

  • @krissykk1618 They didn't know what happened at first, I don't blame the winners for being happy, they were caught up in one of the biggest moments of their horse training/owning/breeding careers

  • @krissykk1618 they won. that's the end of it. it could have happened to any of them. i someone got hurt during a soccer game does everyone start crying? no. its sad, but it at the same time, Big Brown won a great race.

  • @krissykk1618

It just goes to show, for these people animals are tools for their entertainment.

  • @DiamondNotch And a horse out in the field being a horse has never broke a leg. Your an idiot!

  • @Swedensavage 'disgusting sport'? how? have you SEEN horses before the race?! they're excited to go out there!!!! like look at how Zenny used to get before races! these horses are well taken care of. how do I know? I work at the track and I, MYSELF MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE HAPPY HEALTHY AND CLEAN!!!

  • ...and look at all the asses celebrating the winning horse while one horse died due the race? I would feel soo bad if I were them in that situation. Ugh.

  • What would you have had them do? Drag poor Eight off the track by her back legs or have them smash her into the back of a truck to lie in a stall with two broken legs and cry and writhe in pain until they finally developed a miracle to fix her?

No one likes it when a horse dies, it sucks. However I am happy they euthanized her right away, she was instantly put out of her suffering and didn't have try and figure out why she was hurting so much for doing such a wonderful job in her race.

    <3 u 8!

  • Now I have to agree there is a dark side to racing I hate. Like I said horse LOVE to run. They are not forced. But the part I hate about horse racing is the nurse mare foal program. That just makes me sick. Two mares have babies. One is very expensive and the other is worthless and unwanted. The unwanted one is taken away from its mom and is replaced by the expensive foal that way the mare can go back to racing or sent back to breed again and the worthless baby is either slaughtered or homed.

  • @horseiegirl6792 That... no. Mares never race again once they've been bred and foaled, and they can be - and ARE - bred again with a foal at their side, valuable or not. Any breeder of any breed worth consideration will not intentionally breed a cull foal, and would definitely not voluntarily go through the stress of trying to get a mare to accept a foal that isn't her own. Mares RARELY accept babies that aren't theirs.

  • @horseiegirl6792 Exactly!

  • It is murder. Horse racing is a despicable "sport", designed to net owners money at the cost of the life of the animals. What percentage of these animals lives beyond age eight?

  • @swedensavage People who say is was murdered do not know shit about horses. They LOVE to run. More horse die in the field as fillies and colts because the LOVE to run. the only different is there is a jockey on their back. Plus horses are well taken care of. It's like living in a five star hotel. And the horses are not forced to run. The horses who no longer have their hearts in it are retired and start a new career.

  • @horseiegirl6792 Yeah, they do love to run.

Its fucking unnatural for them to be running in a circle as rich fucks stand cheering in the stadium as a creature whose bones are not developed enough to handle the rigorousness of this sport are maimed and yes MURDERED on the track. Not saying the euthanasia is murder, it is usually necessary after the devastating injuries they sustain AS A RESULT OF THIS DISGUSTING SPORT. Shame on you.

  • @swedensavage Actually, you're wrong. Most of the bone injuries sustained in horse racing are a result of bad breeding, not the actual intensity of the sport, which has declined a lot in the last century - not like the number of injuries. Ruffian, for example, was extremely poorly bred; it was only a matter of time before she broke down - Reviewer had fragile bones, he should've never been crossed on a Native Dancer mare. Eight Belles had a ton of Native Dancer in her. It's all in the blood.

  • @swedensavage Actually, MOST retired race horses live well past age 20. Also, there are horses that race well into their teen years. And it's not murder. And horse racing is not a despicable sport.

  • "there was no possible way to save her"

this is SOO not true! They did research on her legs later after she was -euthinized- and they could have saved her. They blamed Gabriel and they were wrong! It was them.

Then the winners are happy cause they won and show no sadness. Idc if they won millions they should atleast be sad!

  • @EightBelles6 No, they couldn't save her. You cannot save a horse who has broken two legs at the same time, especially not two front legs, and if the skin was broken - which it was for Eight Belles - then it's game over regardless. Horses cannot recover lying down, nor can they recover completely suspended by a sling. The poor filly would've had to be DRAGGED on the equine ambulance, DRAGGED off, DRAGGED into the operating room, etc, etc.. She had no front legs to stand on. Nothing could be done

  • @Jailbirdx

even though i know they coulnd't save her.........still very sad.

  • @Jailbirdx Actully vet came down from canada to the usa in 2007 he helped a horse back to health with a head injury and two broken legs and she is back to jumping today. He is a very very great vet. And he moved down to flordia in 2009 since he liked it so much the two years he spent in the usa (2007-2008). And he would have been able to Eight belles . They could've saved her but it would be to late by the time he came up there. They were probly to upset to think so they put her down.

  • @bb123699 What is that horse's name? I'd be very interested in reading her story because everything I have read and known has firmly said that a horse with two broken legs is screwed, and google is remarkably not giving me anything on the subject. I don't see how it'd be possible; if they suspended the front end, the back legs would develop laminitis from the uneven weight distribution. If they suspended the whole body, sores may develop from the rubbing of the sling and the muscles in the legs>

  • @bb123699 > would wither away and leave the horse incredibly weak. A horse cannot lie down for weeks at a time mainly because that is not how they are programmed to live - if forced to lay down for extended periods of time, they may thrash and hurt themselves more. Eight Belles' bones also broke the skin - if she'd broken only one leg, she would likely have been euthanized anyway because of this, as the risk of infection becomes way too high to even risk.

  • @EightBelles6 even if they could have fixed her legs, there are so many things that go after surgery. She wouldn't be able to stand, she wouldn't be able to run, they're end up putting her down later after doing through all that extra unnecessary pain. Saving an extremely poor quality of life because you don't want to put down and animal is not good for you or for the horse. It causes more pain all around. They're not the same as people. They don't recover from two broken front legs.

  • "there was no possible way to save her"

this is SOO not true! They did research on her legs later after she was -killed- and they could have saved her. They blamed Gabriel and they were wrong! It was them.

Then the winners are happy cause they won and show no sadness. Idc if they won millions they should atleast be sad!

  • She wasnt murdered thats bull shitt! do u own horses? if ur horse broke its ankles and couldnt get up would you let it suffer there is virtually no way tosave a horse with broken legs!

  • You all need to look at his channel. This guy is sick. He loves watching horses in pain! He is an awful person! JERK

  • she was not MURDERED she was EUTHANIZED what kinda of horrible person r u?

  • I am appalled at how they mention this horse being put down then got on with the show like it wasn't anything special!!!! If my horse was the winner I think I would have got up and said a speech for Eight Belles. It was like EVERYONE was ablivious as to what was happening to that poor horse and only cared about the money they had won. We here in Australia are pushing hard to have Jumps Racing Banned in all states. Look It up It's one of the most disgusting sports you will see.

  • @horsebritt99

While you make a good point, Big Brown's connections probably had NO idea what had just happened.

  • I watched this race on television.. It broke my heart.. Eight Belles you will always be loved and missed!

  • Horses should not be allowed to race at 2 years old! Ridiculous!

  • @gravysnifter obviously has no knowledge of horses. her injuries were WELL BEYOND any sort of medical intervention. not euthanizing her on the track would have prolonged the IMMENSE SUFFERING AND PAIN a horse experiences with a broken leg, let alone TWO.

  • that horse was not murdered. for broken ankels that is hard to fix, so they put her out of her misery. it happens but it isnt murder.

  • Gravy... seriously, the Horse was not MURDERED!!!!! what did you want the vets/owners to do? I'd love to hear why you think this is murder..... In a clear concise way break down for me, what exactly you woulda done.....

  • what is your problem. murdered is the wrong word. The humanly euthanized her because she broke both her front ankles and nobody could fix it. She couldn't stand! You have know clue about anything to do with that if you say she was murdered.

  • she was not MURDERED she was euthanized because she was badly injured and was in insane amounts of pain

  • They didn't murder her, they kindly let her go so she wouldn't be in even more severe pain, they helped that horse I think

  • Why do people have to take tragedies like this and turn them into a soapbox stand for their egos? Why in god's name would you use the image of a horse in horrific pain as your background? You're not saying anything thousands of people haven't said before. It's not shocking or groundbreaking or even clever. It's just obnoxious.

  • wow...she was not murdered....poor mare <3 great racehorse. She was not murdered she took a bad step :(

  • After reveiwing this video a number of times I cant believe no one noticed the MURDER that Gravy Sniffer is talking about. Watch Kent Desormeaux's whip after the race. He pointed it back at Eight Belles. I think he had a whip that could shoot bullets and took 2 shots at her fracturing both ankles resulkting in MURDER. Gravey Sniffer saw it. OMG OMG Call 911 someone report a MURDER.

  • @COUNTRYROADZ lol

  • This injury was going to happen regardless if she was on the track or in the field running. Clearly her front ankles were not solid. Thousands of injuries and deaths happen to horses away from the race track but never get the media attention that people like Gravy Sniffer to post for their own ego boost.

Whats Murder is youre killing thousands of viewers with this crap

  • your stuppied, Eight belles would have never lived any ways it was for the best, your just... stuppied.

  • Wouldn't you know it, the horse I bet on is the one that dies. What luck.

  • Eight Belles was not murdered. She was humanely euthanized. Both of her front fetlocks gave out on her resulting in breakage, and there was no way they could've repaired them so she could live a happy, painless life. She would've been in pain all the time, so they simply euthanized her on the spot instead of agonizing her pain. Eight Belles will be missed. <3

  • I do agree that they do race these horses WAY too young. Throughbreds were bred to run, and the owners/breeders/trainers do take into accout the horse before entering them. But you never hear PETA people bitch about barral racing. Quater horses were bred for that, just like throughbred were bred for racing. I had a Quater horse barral racer who broke his leg while taking a turn around a barral. It can happen no matter what breed of horse it is.

  • how is it murder?

in case you were unaware, she broke both of her front ankles

When a horse breaks it's leg(s) it can rarely be fixed because they are so heavy and develop so heavily on having all four legs.

the breaks were bad enough SHE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN SAVED

    SHE WAS HUMANELY EUTHANIZED!

  • Anyone who says she was murdered is stupid and uninformed. We should all be treated so well in a serious situation where our life is at stake !!

  • The people smiling disgust me.

  • it just shows how u ignorant you are to even say something like that! The horse must have been in tremendous pain and the vet did the only thing that could be done. How could she even be expected to stand with 2 broken legs??!! So they ended her suffering!!

  • thats just sick she got killed and all they were doing is big brown won wth its sick >:(

  • @XxxemmaandladyxxX - she wasn't "killed'. What if you had 4 legs, and your front 2 were broken? It would be IMPOSSIBLE to walk, not to mention extremely painful. She was humanely euthanzied to put her out of pain.

  • @XxxemmaandladyxxX what the hell is wrong with you? This mare had BOTH FRONT ANKLES BROKEN. I pray to god that you have nothing to do with any equine animal because you are clearly ignorant and ill informed of the structural build of a horse and possible medical prognosis for a case like this essentially there was one option. They EUTHANIZED her. And as for them celebrating big brown, amongst all that commotion do you honestly think that anyone realized what was going on?Grow up and get educated

  • How would they know it is painful? It is just sad that certain trainers get away with this.

Look at this cheater, Dutrow. He is a known chemist. He choked in the BELMONT when his horse was taken off meds in a weak field.

  • What were they suppose to do? Allow her to linger and suffer and suffer?

  • Supidest video title on YT

  • @GravySnifter

First of all the video title is both erroneous and gratuitous, one would not be attracting unwanted attention if the video title was correct like the other videos that feature the tragic and controversial film of this valiant filly breaking down and being humanely euthanized. The fact that you as the uploader of this video and having the impudence to call it MURDER clearly displays your ignorance in this subject, and gives the impression that you believe this animal . . .

  • @109367 . . . could have been saved. She was clearly in pain and according to a licensed and experienced veteranarian attempting to even move her would have caused unnecessary pain and suffering, she had no support to her front limbs and could not stand. Horses aren't dogs, one can not simply put a cast on the leg and the animal just lay down for six weeks until the bone heals.

Secondly, do not ask someone to leave a public, and universial website in any circumstance unless you are . .

  • @109367 . . . the owner. You have absolutely no right to tell ANYONE to leave, especially when it is just because they don't agree with you. Don't be narrow minded, don't be immature, and don't assume things you know nothing about. This horse was humanely euthanized, NOT murdered. If someone came to your house and shot you in the head it would be murder, if you lived but were brain dead and had no hope of recovery and someone unplugged you it would be totally different. . . .

  • @109367 . . . . Also, if I am not welcomed her way is this video not private?

  • @GravySnifter you have NO right to tell people to leave youtube

  • @GravySnifter you can't ask people to leave YouTube.... Everyone else would like YOU to leave YouTube :) Thanks

  • @GravySnifter dont post things
