I recall reading that Saab Automobile never made any profit on the car's! Have had 5 Saabs! (1st): 1975 3dr 99GL = Great! - (2nd): 1980 5dr 99GLE = Didnt want to go over 50mph, until I went down a big hill, then bought the (1st) back for the Engine! - (3rd): 1982 3dr 900Turbo = Broke it on a motorway BECAUSE the guy I bought it from bypassed a cut off switch/valve! (4th): 1982 3dr 900EMS = Rebuilt completely, only to have the Head Gasket fail 10,000miles later! (5th): 1981 2dr 99GL = From an Auction, changed the shaft that drove Waterpump=OK, Fastest too!
This commercial was the first ad to emerge from The Brand Bucket now a trade marked methodology that underpins the marketing of thousands of products and services across the globe
I had a 900, and it was full of problems. fuel gauge broke, pie pan noise under car, leaking coolant into passenger compartment, headlights wouldn't shut off. now I have a volvo. MUCH BETTER !!
@lawtowngirl85 Sort of, but the 9000 was 1985, and GM pitched in in 1989, because Saab truthfully was going downhill, as they only had two engines, and two models (900 and 9000). The 9000 in the 90s remained remarkably untainted by GM even though GM owned 50% of it then, the only thing that GM did to the 9000 was put a dirty great V6 in it on the Griffin and some other CSEs that was large and lazy. The 9000 was killed off in 1998, to make the way for the 9-3s/9-5s. They at least had B232 engines
@tony565565 I'm no fool, but you sure show the symptoms of one. Here's your quote: "dont buy american, help put them out of business. no bailout!!" COEXIST means that BOTH stay in business. I own a 2009 Saab 9-3 2.0T with XWD, and it is an unbelievably fun drive. So is the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette, which is also in my garage. GM and Saab would have been perfect. In my mind, h
@tony565565 *ad that worked out better, Saab would have been a force to be messed with. Everyone refuses to admit that it was GM that got Saab on the map when it came to luxury and competing with German and Japanese cars. They planted the seed, and so now it is Spyker's turn to make the best with a treasure of an automaker - Saab. As for American cars, they too are getting a second chance, thanks to the bailout that you seem to despise - and will blossom into their potential as well, like Saab.
@tony565565 Also, when I say there is plenty in common with the two, I mean Saab + Swedish automobiles and American automobiles. Harbor no ill will toward GM, who tried.

@hadabenz You are right, keep it well, you have the rare 2.1ltr engine which was only availble on early 90s american models and had more hp than the standard one
Look at the video at 0:16. There you see a unice stretced Saab 900CD "Corps Diplomatique" built in the Finish, Valmet Factory in Nystad in 502 ex between 1981 to 1986. Look at the stretced wheelbase, and compare it whit the " regular Saab 900". The Saab 900CD was the following production from the Saab Finlandia wich were orderd in a NOT serial number. The Saab Finlandia started whit it´s base on the Saab 99 CC GLE in 1976. Excuse my bad english on this little notis about a UNIC car from Eourpe.
I remember fondly owning a 1980 900 back when I was 17 and in High school. Everyone else wanted Mustangs or Trans Ams but I was in love with my Saab. Plus it was cool that I was the only one in school with a SAAB.
HEY FOLKS I'm not sure what to say about the US Involvement with SAAB I do know that THANKFULLY we still sell SAAB'S Here in the U.S. I Currently drive an 01 S 9-3 4 door hatchback. Which I admit beats hands down anything I've driven in the past. IF I have my way about it. SAAB will be the only car I drive from this point forward.
@mesquiteguy1221 my friend had an '01 9-3. It was trash... at least comparatively speaking. The older the Saab, the better it is. It wasn't uncommon for classic 900's to get over one million miles. The cars were built for longevity and reliability. American cars (Saab after 1990) are designed to break down at a certain point so you have to take them back to dealership and have new parts put on. Automakers make the most money on repairs and parts, not cars in my opinion.
@XlPH0S Thank You, Well I have had min e for over 5 months now, And so far no complaints. I like the fact that in the city I live in, A SAAB MIGHT be 1 out of every 10 other cars you might see on the road. So that is pretty unique to my way of thinking, I rather like that.
@mesquiteguy1221 The USA Saab makes up 1% of the car population. Not bad though? I got an email from them when Spyker took them over that said they want to go back to their roots; how the company used to be. I hope they do.
@XlPH0S YEAH I know, That's another reason I enjoy owning and driving my SAAB, Sort of like being a part of a unique club, Not JUST anyone Drives a SAAB, While EVERYONE else drives the OTHER Types. WE, US unique and SPECIAL People choose to OWN and DRIVE a UNIQUE car from a VERY Unique Country. I LIKE that (Need a Smiley face here)
@juanlaga LMAO I'm putting a stamp on that, but don't forget public opinion. A lot of people only like certain things because they look around first to make sure everyone else likes it too. I originally got a Saab because it was quick, drove smoothly, and NO ONE I knew had one. Now it's just common sense to have one.

Seriously, to all "Saab lovers". Love the car as much as you want, it won't change the fact that Saab never succeeded, ever, as much as Volvo did.
It never had a legacy left behind, like a BMW M5 or Dodge Challenger R/T ('71 and '70). The sales didn't suck back then as much, but suck even more nowadays. No "Sports saab" was able to save them.

No no no, it is the 9000 that has a raised edge at the top of the hood, it is where the intake is and the windshield wipers are mounted. The 900 has the intake grille in the hood and the wipers mouting over the hood.
This is the most beautiful ad Ive ever seen (and Ive seen many of them)! It is so elegant and understated, and the harmony of sound and image is just perfect.
Im going to apply for my first driving test soon. When I pass the test I hope I'll be getting a vintage Saab. What a great looking car!
Just if you or anyone knows, what did GM do to the quality of the 9-5? I heard it's part Vauxhall/Opel and part Saab. Can anyone confirm that? I wouldn't buy a GM Saab through principal tbh, just curious.
You dont have the two things Saabs , and Saab drivers hold 1. Class 2. performance, my guess is you must drive a small poorly made common looking auto that can easily be had.
When you opened the hood, the Turbo was after a drive like the end of a jetfighter...totally in Burn.

3 things:
1. at 00:46 looks like they used a shot of a 9000, not a 900
2. looks like he's shifting into 4th before doing a launch
3. 7500 pounds? wow that's quite heavy for car :-D

Sorry it's more like ~00:44-00:45 where it looks like a 9000

The pounds that are being spoken of are pounds sterling (£), as in proper money.

how could you hate the old saabs?????
the only thing is hat when saab was bought by gm saab cars were crappy so if you want to insult saabs insult the new ones
