@zztlamb Yea there are people that do it just to p***off the others ...Just idiots i can accelt it more if it is accompanied by a constructive comment . Anyway i'm glad you liked it and even more you said so ..tc my friend
I Shake's version. But, the voice of Waylon is perfect. Add Jessi it is mesmerizing. Then the lyric is perfect for them. Divided they would have been through. My friend Larry Welborn was friend of Waylons. They both played bass player for Buddy Holly (Larry played bass on That"ll be the Day)He told me that Waylon was the same cool guy as a teenager. Legendary guitarist Duane Eddy (Jessi's first husband) said the best thing he ever did was break up with her so she could get with Waymore.
Written by Texas' own Shake Russell and Dana Cooper. As much as I like Waylon and Jessi, I like the original version better. You can't beat Shake & Dana.
@all95621 She is absolute beauty. Her voice, her personality, her love for Waylon pure beauty. I love her and could listen to her sing all day and never get tired of listening to her.
the first time i heard this song i was at work, sitting at a desk. It came over the radio and a co-worker asked me a question. I just told the co-worker.....wait.!! LOL.....this is ONE good song! Of course i went and bought the c.d, I had to hear it on good stereo sound!
I just hope people don't ever forget how important these two were in the history of country music--Waylon as the unparalleled "outlaw" with his legendary catalogue and Jessi with her own, albeit fewer years at the top of everybody's super pop-star list with her two or three untouchable Capitol albums and big hits of her very own. And both of them on 'Wanted: The Outlaws.' How did they survive it all?
This song, more than any they warbled together, explains why.
I listened to this song...again...today....it's on my playlist. Agree totally -. 100% with Vengeance509...it's a beautiful song..and love listening to these 2 sing to each other..in fact...it sounds like they're singing ONLY to each other!
@teeger66 I absolutly agree. ANY song they song together is as of they are singing to EACH other. I think these 2 are what love really is. You can see in some of the snap shots the way he looks at her it is absolute pure love for her, and the way she took care of him was pure love for him..wish we could all have that feeling
my g-d, this song brings on the aching heart. that's how you know it's really damned good country, really great singing. i always loved them both--each for their own individual work, their separate accomplishments, and for their collabs. is it me, or is this just the most heartbreaking work they did together? man, the chords here just rip the soul and they are both in superb form.
i try to see shake whenever he is in austin (iguana). this song and 'traveling texas' always make me feel at home. my fav version is on the shake/jack saunders album. interesting story, i was looking for that album for my dad a few years back and contacted shake's management (shake) and he sent me a copy of the album that had been taken to space by NASA astronauts. he told me at a show that they told him they listened to deep in the west every morning.
I never really paid much attention to this song when i first heard it on Hangin' Tough album. I got the album Right For Time in 2005 after Waylon had passed away. The first time i heard him sing it with Jessie it gave me chill bumps and tears to my eyes and it still does sometimes. Theres not a day that goes by that i don't think of Ol' Waylon and just how great he was and still is. This is the best song Jessie and Waylon sang together. Thanks for the great pics.
WHen I heard this song 32 years later after my divorce, I realized how much I still love the southwest even though the marriage is over. DIdn't mean to get all mushy here but that's what this song does to me. Have you ever seen the YouTube vids of Shake Russell who wrote this song singing it? Its a lot different but am sure glad he wrote the song so that Waylon and Jessi could put their own spin on it.
I just seen the Shake Russell version and i do like it but it is totally different to Waylons, and i gotta say Waylons is the best version, even more i am glad they did this version together, it is so beautiful
Hit's me hard to hear Waylon sing that he's "gone home" , cause he's buried in Mesa, AZ, and area he loved. So sad he's gone. He went down rockin'. His music lives on.
The most perfect and beautiful song by these two! "...together we're one, divided we're through" words truly show their love for each other! Thanks for choosing this one...thanks Eddie.xx
The person who put a dislike up there is deaf. That person doesn't know AWESOME country.
