  • is it even worth 100 dollars?

  • @bubblemuffinxp yes!

  • cool my school should get 2000 of those for my whole school.

  • I under stand the point of giving it to people who need these things in other country's, and helping them build a foundation for themselves.

but what about creating something in America (and other country's) that allows people to purchase one (only one per child) for their children as-well.

We have a system that functions quite a bit on personal ability above "standard" job levels.

some children are almost dammed to stay in the lower class just because of

    "who" they're born to.

  • hahahhahaa! 3:00 made me shit my pants

  • Whats with all this giving a laptop to a child BULLSHIT WTF i never had a laptop growing up. Most houses in America don't even have ONE computer for a family! Including my family!! Most kids in American don't even have anything close to a laptop. WTF!!!!! DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS SHIT!!!! Give them something they really need like water or freaking food or houses or something. The is the most stupied idea ever!!! DUMB ASS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bighight LANGUAGE FUCKING CRABASS I BET UR IN THE PTA SO YOU HATE TECHNOLOGY AND DONT WANT ANYONE ELSE TO FUCKING HAVE ANYTHING COOL

  • I'm skeptical, for a few reasons - firstly, people go on about the internet being such a useful tool, which is true, but then the forget not everywhere has internet access. Secondly, especially in the third world you could and should have desktop units. More bang for your buck, easier to repair. Even if they're so-called dropproof, waterproof, dustproof etc, they're not get-beaten-up-in-the-street-and-stolen-proof either.

  • Paper. Cheap, requires no power or batteries, never crashes, portable, expandable, lasts 100,000x longer than magnetic media, instant on, sortable, handles graphics and color and fonts of any size or text of any language with ease, duplicate it, you can send messages on it globally, even compress it, recycle it. Sponsor my: "One Pack of Index Cards" per child program. For the cost of one useless junky plastic toxic breakable OLPC you can buy 100,000 index cards, or enough for 100 children.

  • @ANARCHYdashTVdotCOM Paper, once it gets wet it can't be used, once it gets dirty it can't be read or written on, lasts for only two uses - one on each side, requires slaughtered forests to be made and creates toxic chemicals when recycled, 1000 index cards won't last or have the functionality anywhere near an XO laptop, can't be used for long-distance communication, can't be used for research purposes, requires extra peripherals to write with, can't record and playback speech or video.

  • @ANARCHYdashTVdotCOM Paper and index cards wont teach children in 3rd world countries about technology. That's the whole point. Educating children beyond their conventional means. Additionally, the internet alone is an amazing educating tool.

  • I think this is fabulous for teaching ICT skills. I just hope that the older way of teaching is still maintained. They could do with spending the money on training teachers and stopping child labour first. But, this does open up more doors for them, and it's nice that someone thought about it.

  • i dont care about the drive processor or anything with it, give that windows 98 and have it running windows 98 games well and i would buy that instantly

  • I oppose this; with all that money you can simply set up more schools!

  • @RyanShortFilms so then we could have more poorly funded schools not able to actually teach kids....sweet

  • this is really cool,

  • most children in america don't have laptops...

  • @littleprettyone1895

most children in america get a reasonable education without one...

  • @sanitymops

but not one per child they don't need that

  • @littleprettyone1895 no, their parents go out and buy them iPhones instead.

  • theres gonna be soo many hacker kids in 3rd world countries haha

  • Try to run GTA IV on that LOL

  • i want one of this and i got 4 laptops all ready

  • Fuck laptops, pencils and paper are more than enough, I studied that way and so will those bastards.

  • those bastards, they didnt chose to be that way or to be poor, you make me sick you should be executed how can you call them bastards, what did those poor kids do to you to treat them that way?

  • I can call them bastards in multiple ways, I can do it with pen and paper, on a PC, in Dutch, English and German.

    That's how.

And they don't deserve laptops, they should just study the old school way, pen & paper.

  • its cruel, fine if you say they dont deserve laptops I actualy beleive rather give them food than a laptop because thats what they need most or a TV for all the family insead but calling kids who didnt chose to be that way when they were born "bastards" is just cruel and inhumane but obviously you're probably a rich person with little connection with the real world.

  • You're a dumbshit.

  • Wow. You suck, please die.

  • No thanks, I like my life.

Why don't you stop bitching and whining and actually go do something about the shit in the world?

  • Fuck you asshole, unlike you, they deserve cool laptops, and you deserve that a paper and pencil being shoved up your ass.

  • Holy shit thats a cool computer

  • NYT is the worst newspaper ever by the way.

  • That's the fucking worst laptop I've ever seen besides a Mac. You're an idiot if you waste $100 on that, you couldn't pay me to take one.

  • jmrocker - it's for child in developing countries and even little children here. it's not meant to be a powerhouse.

  • macs are the best computors ever

  • NO U

  • macs? lol you mean apple cases with pc harware.

my pc is 20 times faster as all apples

  • well also pc was released AFTER mac

  • i was thinking about getting an alienware m17x but this thing is the best laptop i've ever seen. it freaking owns alienware

  • oh god damn it it has a webcam and 6 hour battery AND A F***ING SOLAR CHARGER! i'd pay an extra £100 for a solar powered laptop but oh you've guest it i live in england where the currency is soo good we can afford anything but as soon as we go back "no signal" "low/high voltage" or "sorry this product is currently only availible in america please wait untill we review some lisences" (youtube really? i wait one year for the stupid qtrax dipshits to work out how to speak british so hello torrents

  • yh i live in england 2 i no what u mean

  • Is an awesome computer, many kids will be able to learn a lot with such a device I hope.

  • LMFAO!!! The black Girl IN THE END doesn't even know how to use the dam thing! She's got it on her head where the WATERMELON should be!!!.........3rd world countries blow....... stupid too AHAHAH

  • dude omfg that was prolly one of the funniest pics at the end =P

  • gtfo obvious troll, you fail.

  • Unfortunately my friend, there are no three worlds, there is only one, and if you see it from space you see no boundaries...and by the way, the picture at the end is only symbolic. But only a dumb ass from the "first world" would criticize it.

  • oh the irony!

  • You're a fucker. Thats how they carry it in their culture you dumbfuck.

  • there are new spammers on the block now

  • Now the 3rd world children can jack off to some american bitches. WTF why the F*** do they need a laptop, I say fu** em, next thing you know they will be sending us viruses and shit about there crappy homes and lives and what not, someone should make an XO virus to wipe out all of there laptops, STOP THOSE DAM TERRORISTS!!!!!!!!!!! tell me if im right

  • I feel like I'm getting stupider by reading your comment.

Also, you don't need to censor the word 'fuck' on the internet, bucko.

  • You are a dumb fuck. Those countries would have a proxy to prevent them from doing that stuff. You don't know shit.

  • LINUX FTW!

  • good review.

  • i dont understand, not every child in America has a laptop!

  • You brat! These kids have access to nothing and you think that its bad not every child in america has a laptop. We can all go on the computer and research!

  • Most of its purpose is to provide a cheaper alternative to books. In essence its a multifunctional, web-ready, very rugged low price low power e-reader. Most kids in America have access to books, teachers etc... It's up to the American government to get these to American kids, I'm sure the company would have no problem with that.

  • These rugged, low-power computers use flash memory instead of a hard drive, and come with a distribution of Linux derived from RedHat's Fedora as their pre-installed operating system, which comes stored in both a copy on the flash memory and in the on-board ROM backup. Mobile ad-hoc networking via 802.11s WiFi mesh networking protocol is used to allow many machines to share Internet access as long as at least one of them can see and connect to a router or other access point.

  • The sub-notebooks are designed for sale to government-education systems which then give each primary school child their own laptop. Pricing was set to start at $188 in 2006, with a stated goal to reach the $100 mark in 2008. In actual implementation, prices have remained $199 each for both the winter 2007 and winter 2008 Give One, Get One campaigns (and thus $399 per pair).

  • The XO-1, previously known as the $100 Laptop, Children's Machine, and 2B1, is an inexpensive sub-notebook computer intended to be distributed to children in developing countries around the world, to provide them with access to knowledge, and opportunities to "explore, experiment and express themselves" (constructionist learning). The laptop is developed by the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization and manufactured by Quanta Computer.

  • every body go look at wwc champions and replica belt kid 150 this is the show go look at their at their videos they or awesome

  • This is some corporate bullshit. And the picture of the girl in the end is just the toilet flushing right there

  • seriously nothing at all is going to be compatible with this

    does that even have flash?

    java?

  • testing

  • This is a great concept but a lot of problems. I'd rather pay 100 bucks to give it to a kid in africa instead of 400 than to get my own. No one in the US would want to use this. The iphone's a better computer.

Yes, the children could learn a lot from the internet and computers but I think a lot of them are too buisy starving and getting killed to focus on computers. It's a great idea, a lot of flaws though and I don't know if it's the right time for it.

  • It's not really about getting a computer, it's if you donate you could get one yourself if you're interested in seeing how it works or communicating with these kids. If you choose you can also just donate the money for a laptop for a kid and not take one yourself.

And it's aimed mainly at 3rd world regions that have some form of development but nowhere near enough. Parts of India come to mind. Not every child in need is starving.

  • They're not suggesting that you give one of these instead of food or medical aid... that would be ridiculous. The thing is, its a one off donation. you wouldn't necessarily have to keep giving these things. It's essentially providing a massive library to each child, one that won't need every book or pen and paper to be delivered repeatedly. One for every child is ambitious and maybe not the most realistic early strategy but a goal or mission is important. This one is outstanding!

  • good video and awesome laptop!! Nice!

  • Great video!
