  • EVERYBODY NO DAN SHAUGER IS BEST TEACHES INTHE WORLD

  • JACOBB NO WHAT HE TALKING DAN GREAT TEACHES EV ERYBODY SHOW LISTING TO DAN WANT GREAT TEACHES

  • WHY DOES EVERYONE LEAVE OUT THE 'FACT' THAT THERE WAS A 35MPH DESERT TAIL WIND BLOWING BEHIND MIKE DURING THE DRIVE.

OR THAT EYE WITNESS ACCOUNTS PRESENT AT THE TIME ALL SAID THAT THE WIND 'GUSTED' (PICKED UP SPEED) WHEN MIKE HIT.

Yeah Mike Austin had a GREAT swing & was a remarkable human, (unless you were taking a lesson from him), but the 515 yrd drive had a lot to do with WIND and some good bounces (all great drives depend upon bounce & roll to be great).

Now SHUT THE PHUCK UP about this.

  • Mike was in fact timed at over 150 mph clubhead speed in 1936 at the University of Illinois. This was with a persimmon headed club which would have ensured that more mass was striking the ball - Thus longer than Jason Zuback. Energy = Mass * Velocity2 Strength has little to do with how far you can hit a golf ball - it is supple quickness. Look at Jamie Sadlowski compared to Jason Zuback.

  • I have the 515 yrd golf viedo lesson that ball did not hit the cart path the ball hit in front of the green and bounced over.

  • these people keep saying "check Wikipedia, his swing was real. Wikipedia shares no information about mike austin that would convince a non-believer. The record he holds shouldn't be valid because it wasn't controlled. Guys hit their drives well, well over 400 yards in Hawaii every year, that doesn't mean they hit the ball that far. If a professional tournament ever goes to a course with a rediculous downhill hole and jason zuback plays, that b.s. record won't exist anymore

  • Any nonbeliever who wants to check it out needs only to look for the eyewitness accounts. Austin freely admits that one single drive was downwind and a freak thing. Disregarding that one shot, he was known as a stupendously long and solid hitter of the ball among _good_ players, guys who could and did win professional tournaments--which is out of the category of a guy like Zuback. Austin won tournaments where all-around playing skill mattered.

  • So what if it's in the guiness book. The dictionary even has a few mispellings.

Tiger Woods once talked about this Mike Austin drive. He mentioned once he was on a hole with the downwind at like 35 mph and he hit his drive 412 yards. Now that's over a hundred yards shorter than the record. Are you telling me a sixty-four year old hit it 515 in 1974? That's impossible! His clubhead speed would have to be over 170 mph!

  • Tiger isn´t a long hitter.

  • I knew Mike Austin. His drive was real. He did admit to having a little help that day when he hit the drive. He told me there was a very, very strong tailwind. He said it felt like 100 MPH at the time he hit the ball. He overshot the green by 100 yards.

However, even with the tailwind, Mike Austin was known for being a consistent and reliable long driver. His record wasn't a fluke, as this documentary says.

I feel honored to have received golf lessons from him.

  • Only if all conditions (wind, turf, etc.) were the same. Do you play?

It wasn't impossible. Multiple eyewitnesses attested. Most likely some combination of spin and buoyant wind conditions made it happen, in addition to the fact that Austin was terrifically long to begin with. (Not every following wind will keep the ball in the air; it depends on the "direction" of the wind in three dimensions. Some following winds will blow the ball down, some will keep it aloft.)

  • His swing speed was once measured 155 mph. His record is recognized by the PGA and the guiness book. Check wikipedia or a LA times article about him.

  • This whole 515 yard drive thing is a hoax. The hole was a dogleg and he probably hit the cart path. There's no way a 64 year old can hit it 515 yard. His clubhead speed would have to be over 150 mph. I'm sorry, but I don't believe this world record is valid.

  • ya exactly theres no way a 64 year old man can hit it 100+ yards farther than jason zuback - who can bench 400 pounds and swings at 150 mph

  • The stories about Mike Austin may sound like legends, but they are not. Check Wikipedia if you like. His swing is very different from a conventional one, but definetily works far better for me and many others who tried it. Austin was an expert at physics, engineering and kinesiology and wrote his Ph.D thesis about the golf swing.

  • Mike who????

this is so funny, chain message sure.

he is just an average player with average distances.

  • the reason these uns keep posing chain messages is because they are scared they will come true haha
