@batwomen04 honestly shar pei arent a "mainstream" breed like your poodles, your retrievers, or your labs. so when it comes to them, don't listen to Animal Planets Dogs 101, its a great show, but often misinformed. As for how they are with kids, it's the same as with any breed, it all depends on how the dog is raised and socialized while it's still a puppy.
@batwomen04 i had 2 ! both were very good with kids. They are very tolerable and well mannered and kids love them.
Sharpeis are interested, but are not instrusive...they watch the world in a stoic manner. Sometimes they make a step back, when a person wants to touch them.
my shar pei basically has a screw you i will do what i want attitude....he also loves to take over my sleeping and sitting spots. good thing he is too cute to beat with a stick!

That's amazing. My sharpei called Barnie is 4. And sleeps ALOT. He can do sit and come here but I taught him when I got him at 3 years old. I could have taught him more if he was younger. Did anyone else have the same problem?

@k4unit sadly because they were overbred. They are such wonderful dogs. I had two, one lived to be 13, the other died when he was 6 of kidney failure. I miss them every day! Can't wait to get another. ^_^

Juicelee: Yes, they suffer of ear infections.U have to be careful when u bathe him it is difficult since they hate 2 take a bath & move their head a lot.I had t/ take him t/the vet many times due 2 these infections t/ear cleaning is very difficult, u dont want to hurt them and they move too much.When I changed his food to Iams Rice and Lamb his allergies stopped and his coat was really nice.He was all muscle and strong up to his 15th yr Make sure to give him his monthly heart worm pill
