  • good job man, one balcony at a time. Green the world

  • nice work.i do multi species in my pots too.you can also introduce a few worms to turn the soil there.

  • I live about 15 miles away from you!

  • Doesn't anyone else notice that this guy sounds like Paul Rudd?

  • Very informative. Thanks

  • Hey look its Bernard Madoff's illegitimate son =D

  • nice little note about urine at the end...

  • great video and all but am I the only person who finds this funny?

If anyone was walking past your house they would be like dam that crazy B****** is eating his flowers

  • love this video, yummy and smart! the garden, ah, the garden!

  • i live in the bay area as well and have been looking for a place to buy a camellia plant. where did you get yours?

  • Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore got them

  • great video, subscribed. I'm looking to become more self sufficient so any help I can find is great!

    thanks.

  • Wow what a nice little garden ^^ Can you let me know some good tasty plants that i could grow from seeds INSIDE my house please?

  • they freaking taste great!

  • 2 Fucking cups of tea? I drink that in a minute!

  • I didn't get the impression it was a video of a guy eating but I guess the title can be taken that way before selecting the video?

  • i was like :) until you mentioned the urine then i was like :O

  • Great work and nice and simple explanation, agree with the urine bit completely . More power to your elbow :) and good luck.

  • Very nice! I really enjoy your videos! Come and check out the video from the Montreal Permaculture Guild on my site.

  • shot! ur a legend!!!!!!

  • *chuckles* I love it! Another person who just goes out into their garden and "grazes" like I do. Cheers and good luck to you in 2009.

  • Thanks you for making this video it is easier to eat right knowing this.

  • Do you worry about salt build up in the soil from using urine as your fertilizer?

  • If you are worried about salt build up, you can extract the nutrients by soaking a piece of activated or pure hardwood charcoal in the urine or you can crystallize the phosphorus and nitrogen as a compound "struvite" (a high quality fertilizer) by hydrolyzing the urine with an enzyme urease to make ammonium and carbon dioxide, and then creating the compound by adding magnesium chloride

  • That went way over my head, but gives me something interesting to look into. Thank you.

  • sweet garden

  • Wonderful! All I know to grow is some tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers and peas on my apt balcony. And most of those are either dying or infested with aphids. sigh. The greens you talk about here sound like something ideal to grow. I'll have to look into them.

    Thanks again.

  • I picked up some campanula and calendula yesterday to add to my patio "garden". Thanks for your advice.

  • How come I never meet people this interesting out in the real world...

  • Given the choice surely washing off the leaves of plants is a good idea as you never know whether a bird or dog ,insect or in this case a human has left their mark.

  • Where's the fun in that?

  • @feralkevin "Where's the fun in that?" I know what you mean! I eat stuff straight out of my garden whenever anything's ripe. As long as I don't see bird poop on it, I don't want to go inside before eating it! I want to eat it while it's still warm from the sun.

    Your balcony is so awesome.

  • Dude your video is great but shouldn't you first wash "Campadula" before you eat it :)

Hey I subscribed to your videos please subscribe to mine.

    Thanks

  • Anyone know where to get the capandula plant and/or seeds?

  • "Campandula." It's like a cross between two of the plants I talk about in the video. Campanula and Calendula. You can get Calendula seeds almost anywhere, either local nursery or mail order seed catalog. Campanula is available at almost all nurseries with a baffling variety. It is a very common ornamental planting with hundreds of members in the Genus. More research would be in order.

  • AH your so awesome!

  • Hi Kevin,

    thanks for providing these informative

video clips and the messages of their

background.I wish you success. Best Wishes,Vahid

  • In the book "Composting Toilet Book" the author has a "recipe" for adding sugar to urine to make the urine more tolerable to plants, and it boosts the carb.

  • great video. learn something everyday... i had no idea camellia's are used for tea. Is that camellia the same as the usual flowing variety? (kinda looks like rose flowers)

mum owns a plant nursery so thats definitely the next thing plant i'll be asking her for! ;)

    thanks

  • very nice video! and id have to agree with Beccalgiallo, you performance was very nice, clear, understandable, the video quality was excellent.

i like your idea of watered down urine as fertalizer, i might try that idea myself! is the urine itself nitrogen rich or is it a reaction to the soil or enzmes of the plant?

  • the urine itself is nitrogen rich. But beware on several accounts. Too much (not watered down enough) urine can damage your plants. Using urine can also create odors if used too much, and of course, only use urine from a healthy person. Also, using urine to fertilize your plants may seriously challenge the paradigms of people in your life.

  • >seriously challenge the paradigms of people.

    It sure does!

I have been teaching my kids to pee around the drip edge of our fruit trees. this does not go over well with some people.

I found your site by doing a search for autum olive before I made a video on it. Its something that we excell at growing on Wanna BEE farm. Well it grows just fine without my help. I really appreciate that. thank you for the wonderfull videos.

    Wanna BEE farmer

  • What does peeing do? (just curious)

  • Seems like a waste of a patio. I have a south window and an old fluorescent light fixture and I have two basil (24"+), 2 mint, thyme, Jalapeño, carrots, and lettuces going. He should get 4-6 rubber maid totes and go crazy with lettuce, sorrel, mint, and other shade tolerant plants!!

  • you remind of a panda bear sitting there munching on your tasty leaves. all peaceful n' junk.

    Cheers Big Ears!

  • I redact that last statement. At the end of the video you said you pee fertilize your own stuff. What's next night soil? BLECH!

  • nice work thanks!

  • Good stuff. Incidently, I fertilized some cabbage today with 1:4 urine/water. The cabbages had been lacking in vitality but within 8 hrs. of fertilizing, they made an incredible comeback. It's truly hard to believe how beautiful (and larger) they look tonight! Of course, the same would have happened I'm sure with artificial fertilizers, but to go the natural route is a truly satisfying experience.

  • You have a great tv presence. You should have your own show.

  • keep it up everyopne needs to knwo this info

  • i think its spelled Nasturtium
