being a peasent back then was a better living than most think. even if the nobles took alot of grain, etc, there was alot left to sell at market. and you could make and sell beer!
@acerb45666555 Well, that's true, but you still had a 40% chance of not living to adulthood, so I guess it's a trade-off. I get what you're saying, though. The Middle Ages weren't full of the squalor people tend to picture. Mind, there's a (potentially) big difference between a peasant who is free, and a serf who is not.
