  • These videos make me so eager to go to Japan!!! I can't wait till I get to go this summer.

  • This video is very clear.

Please tell me this camera's name.

  • Also, even if your train travel costs aren't quite as much as the JR pass, it's still worth getting one just for the convenience.

You still have to book seats for shinkansen - but normal JR lines you just walk thru and show your pass - no need to buy tickets

  • @blank000blank

    Very true.

Easier than reading the maze of signs at the ticket machines!

  • @blank000blank i have a question though i will be traveling from ikebukuro to jogasaki in shizuoka but the exchange window wont open until 9 can i reserve my ticket else where? or at the station a day before? i want to leave ikebukuro at 6:20am ( thats the earliest ) so i can reach jogasaki bridge by 9 , thanks!

  • I paid $550U.S. for a 2 week JR Pass and used it every day. Most local trains and the bullet trains (Shinkansen) are JR so no paying, just show the pass at the gate! Traveled Tokyo to Nagano, Tokyo to Osaka, Osaka to Kobe, Hiroshima, Nara and to Kyoto multiple times. A couple thousand dollars of rail travel all for only $550U.S.!!!!!!! The JR Pass is a must for tourist travel in Japan!

  • @joebenevides

    Well said!

  • 100% JR pass is recommended. Every time I go to Japan I use this handy system, it really saves a lot of money if you want to take the Shinkansen more than three times especially. Just make sure that you can speak some Japanese or someone with you can, as a lot of rail station employees don't speak a lot of English (or anything besides Japanese). Not a big deal in Tokyo, but outside of there, yeah, Japanese really necessary.

  • I don't know why but watching this reminds me of the anime "K-ON!" and also your voice is soothing! x3

  • ... It was really usefull!! I'm considering to buy that =)!

    Thanks for the information ;)

And more videos, coming soon ^_^.

  • 1:20 Japanese train drag race, lol.

  • Wow your moving really fast!

  • Princess, princess.. Don't you want some tea on your Shinkansen?

  • It's pretty expensive to buy it, but in the end i managed to get my money worth.

I am in Kyoto, good festival in Toyko? be right there!! B)

  • 3:25 Mt Fuji huh? it's really humongous

  • I haven't seen all of your videos yet, but maybe you can introduce a lil' bit about Hyperdia's JR timetable? Helped me a lot when I decided whether or not to buy the JR Pass :))

  • @igesta

    Already did.

    English Friendly Japan playlist.

  • The JR pass would be of no real help for me, because I'm one of those few stupid people who plan a trip, but step off the train in the middle of nowhere and see where the adventure leads me....

  • As an American I am so jealous of the convenience of this.. I would love to take a train to classes or to a shopping district etc

  • @glemmstengal It all depends in what kind of area you live.....Where I used to live I could take the train to ANYWHERE for virtually nothing and the trip didn't take that long! Where I live now it's not that easy, it costs loads and a trip to my mom takes me up to 5 hours to get there and back.....So not only in America you can be secluded.

  • How I love the Shinkansen. I would love to have one to ride to school... Thanks for the info.

  • Nothing is simple anymore

  • does the train have Wi-Fi?

  • beautiful scenery!

  • Can you explain the Tokyo Transport System? Because i remember when i was in Tokyo, i think there was like 3 companies... and i got very confused and had to buy many many tickets.

  • do how to love..haha

  • Heeeyyy GUYYYSsssss~! ^^

  • When I go to Japan I will have to get a JR pass, thank you for the video.

  • If you plan to travel around Japan Tokyo > Kyoto > Osaka etc then it's worth grabbing yourself a JR Pass! The service is spectacular, they have smoking carriages for those who smoke with vending machines and toilets located between carriages, also if you are planning your trip to a schedule you can book your seats on each train which is a free service I believe if your a holder of a JR Pass.

  • Yep sounds like a good idea... Especialy if you may decide to go do other stuff.. Than planned

  • Is that Mt. Fuji at 3:08? I read that you could see it on one of the train routes.

  • The JR Pass is one of the best investments that you will get when going to Japan for a holiday. Sure, the high price may turn you off, but the more you use the JR trains (especially the Shinkansen) the more you realise how value for money it really is!

But as he says in the video, it really depends on what your plans are for Japan... so research wisely!

  • WOW XD so organized XD

  • ha ha you leaning back in the chair, so cheesy !!

  • The bullet train is so awesome! I took it from Nagoya to Kyoto earlier this summer and it was great! They need to establish one from America to Japan because I'd much rather ride that than an airplane haha. Drinks in the vending machine are expensive though, obviously, I'd recommend getting your choice soda before getting on :).

  • We went for three weeks and travelled everywhere so we got our moneys' worth. The JR pass is amazing. If you're just going around one city, though, it's. not worth it.

  • I got a JR pass when I went to Japan, however it was quite awkward because I was travelling with Japanese residents. This had the effect that when we were just going one or two Shinkansen stops, I often had to use the slower local train because the Shinkansen was too expensive for my friends, even though I had technically already paid for it. So if you are going to be travelling with people that can't get the pass, this is worth keeping in mind.

  • So I can get this when just going to Japan for a 2 weeks visit?

And going around in Tokyo by train, will it be worth it?

  • Is it easy to find accommodation in the vicinity of the stations dya reckon? I'd like to move from one place to the other every few days.

  • The most expensive one is extremely expensive, but if it works all over Japan it might be worth it.

  • That was Fujiama at about 3:10? Nice! Thanks!

  • Question - how do you say "I want to reserve train tickets" in Japanese?

  • JR are *! the rail pass is an expansive but if it gets lost or stolen they wont give you neighter a new one nor even a partial refund when you report it to them ands show them the reciet, and they wont even change or take back an unused rail pass.

  • it's so expansive yet the conditions sucks- and its like that only in JR, almost everywhere else in japan changes and refunds are no problem at all.

its true that you need to be responsible and watch out for your valubles but that's way over the top.

  • bottom line: boycut the JR rail pass, and inside Japan dont use JR buses and trains if you can..

and if you insist on using the rail pass, buy a lot of short term rail-passes insted of a single long term rail-pass. more expansive but a lot safer

  • @oraionsan i understand you had some bad experience with the staff, and i hope it's not like that for everyone..I think maybe it's because they weren't sure if they could trust you. You know gaijin ppl are kinda scary especially if you're (as nihonjin) not sure about your own English profiency.

For me it was a very good experience, the ppl from JR were very friendly and helped out by explaining everything, anywhere we wanted to go.

  • @talkyr no, it wasnt a missunderstanding- i showed them the reciete and the passport number, but they still said nothing can be done- and i checked the manual i got along with the rail pass, it also said nothing can be done if the rail pass is lost or stolen. JR just sucks (as a company of course) and i refuse to let them just trick me with the supposed "usefullness" of the rail pass

  • 0:53 didnt know japan was into ralph lauren tops, they have a sense of style hahaha

  • Worked very well for me.. it was worth it: Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima, Miyajima (ferry), Osaka, Kobe and back to Tokyo (all using train and shinkansen).. and let's not forget you are set from Narita Airport, because the JR Pass is valid for the Narita Express too ^_^

    Keep up the great vids!!!

  • Is this a replacement of suica pass for foreigners?? because I don't know if I should buy this or recharge my suica pass...

  • FUJI-SAN! :D

  • It isn't cheap but if you travel around quite a bit you make the money back very quickly, well worth it :)

  • Beautiful shots of shinkansen in motion.

  • As always, yours is a wealth of knowledge sir. Thanks!

  • let's MADRAS 1:17

  • awesomely excellent!

  • Too bad that we can not travel by train from Germany to Japan. ^_^

  • @AlbertWesker55 OMG if it was possible to travel to Japan from anywhere in the world by train Japan would sink from the massive flock of people tarveling there lol

  • Good info, as usual!

  • Japan is so beautiful.. Even the cities.

  • I loooove the JR pass. Used it with my Japanese friend in Dec of 2009 to travel all the way from Shizuoka to Hokkaido and back. :-)

  • Let's shinkansen!

  • i like your vids they are alwayes so informative video!!!! :)

  • i used it this summer when traveling in japan. the only problem i think is that it doesnt include the Nozomi super-express, which is the majority of fast trains which travel on the JR shinkansen. And the next fasted, Hikari, is not that frequent and takes 3 hours more to get from Osaka-Tokyo than the Nozomi.

  • first? awesome video!
