  • 1:29 hysterical.

  • I see Kristin more of Miss Dorthy...I can't imagine her with a bob.

  • i love kristen but think about it if she had gotten millie she wouldnt have gotten glinda.....which she was made for that part......sutton was the perfect millie :) i absolutely love kristen tho<3

  • Do you have any of Bea Arthur's stuff from this workshop??

  • kristin would be the one to be millie since she did such a great job playing the role of glinda in wicked

  • @drmmboi Thoroughly modern millie was in 2002, wicked in 2003, so that is impossible.

  • I'd love to see Kristin in Thoroughly Modern Millie!

  • Erin Dilly was brought in because her and Kristin are BEST friends. Kristin left--Dilly was brought in. Sutton filled in and producers took to her. That's how she got the role. (One big reasons understudies should never bitch)

  • Kristin WAS offered the Broadway role. It was hers to take. She wanted to do her own TV sitcom called KRISTIN instead. Kristin's show didn't do well and was canceled mid-season. Sutton in the meantime--took over the role and took it to Broadway. Soon after her show was canceled--Kristin started workshops for Wicked.

  • Can someone please actually define 'Workshop'? As in musicals?? I'm so confused about it! Is it like an audition?

  • @LiltedLullaby Workshop is an early stage of a production after a reading. Sometimes the people in the readings and workshops go all the way through the through to final production be it off- Broadway or Broadway if the show goes all the way. More often then not changes usually occur. Cheno was to be Millie but left for a TV show. Sutton's childhood friend Erin Dilly was cast. Sutton stepped in when she was ill & producers liked Sutton. Dilly gracefully bowed out & got her own Tony nom in 2005.

  • @LiltedLullaby There is another video here of Chenowith and Sutton's brother, Hunter Foster singing "Just like Fred Astaire" from a reading of "Earth Girls Are Easy." Workshops and readings especially don't necessarily lead to a production.

  • is this before or after they casted thoroughly moden millie?

  • I think Kristin is BRILLIANT IN THIS.

I didn't like Sutton that much. I think she acts it very well, but I found Sutton's voice kind of annoying!

My favorite Millie, actually, would have to be London's Amanda Holden.

Everyone always says that Amanda is a "talentless desperate-for-fame fake plastic bitch." They have obviously never seen her as Millie.

  • Kristin is an absolutely brilliant actress and singer, but Sutton was the right choice for this role.

  • Kristin's voice is a bit too high for these low mezzo songs. Im kinda glad Sutton Foster did the part in the end

  • One thing that people should keep in mind is that this is not the final version of the song. Yes, Kristin and Sutton have different style, but the main reason for the differences between the two is that the music itself is different.

  • I absolutely ADORE Kristin, but she was much better off as Glinda.

  • She sounds very fab, but if she had gone with the role, she wouldn't have done Wicked!

Can't imagine listening to the Wicked soundtrack without Cheno...

  • They sing it differently, but they're both stellar. Don't forget, that Kristin just has a rehearsal pianist. Two amazing singers!

  • I really like her better for this...

  • Why do they not sell this on iTunes?

    Everything < Everything + Cheno

  • DANCE BREAK!!!

  • This role would have ruined her voice. She's a coloratura and doing this role 8 times a week with how low it is would not be good. I can't imagine a world wo the cheno note! needless to say tho she did this well

  • Has she NOT done anything?

  • I love Kristin Chenoweth, but this song isn't for her.

  • sutton=millie, hands down

cheno=mrs dorothy!, at least she should have been once

  • i love her but this role is not fit for her...

  • I'm glad she didn't play millie. Sutton Foster is so much better at this song.

  • I think her doing this would have been AMAZING. Sutton is great too though. PLUS, she already had a Tony. AND she did Wicked. So yeah, it all works.

  • i love kristin dearly, but sutton really fits this better, kristin would have made a truly wonderful miss dorothy though. :)

  • i <3 kristin waaaaay toooo muuuuch! i love sutton too!

  • on the topic of Sutton getting the Tony for this role as opposed to Kristin possibly getting it for this role: you must remember that Sutton was only an understudy and she got to do Millie when the lead actress pulled out last minute....

  • Amazing as usual but Kristin wouldn't have been right for the part, Im so glad Sutton got it.

  • i love sutton and kristen and sutton takes the prize 4 this, its not rite 4 kristen at all

  • @cheerjewhottie101 i agree its definitly not rite 4 kristin... but i still luv her!

  • @star99981 lol so do i, i cant wait to see her and sean hayes in promisses, promisses

  • Love her to death, but prefer Sutton for this.

  • see i think she has a nice strong voice but i dont think shes made to sing this song. it doesnt sound right

  • Hahahaha! I love when they shout "DANCE BREAK!"

  • omg i didnt know she did this. lol

this makes me happy. I LOVE Thoroughly Modern Millie :) My school did it last year, it was a blast :)

  • I don't think she would be. She's pretty intense and has proved that she's not one to be stuck in one typecast. She can work a lot because she's a good actor.

  • she is such a powerhouse =)

  • In her book she mentioned that for a while she did regret it, and she felt quite depressed for a while as well, but she took away a lot of lovely memories from Kristin and she never looked back. Everyone makes wrong decisions. With Wicked, she stuck with it because she felt like it was something instead of joining West Wing. There's always a risk - she just followed her heart and I admire her so much for that xx

  • I am sure Cheno's decision was correct because she follows her heart.

  • she sounds so different here then glinda great love her!!

  • I Love Kristin so much and she would've done an awesome job with this show but i am happy that she did WICKED instead, she is more well known now, plus Sutton did a Fantastic job with Millie and has now done everything on broadway! lol So talented...love you Cheno!

  • She didn't do WICKED instead. She had a sitcom with Jon Tenney which failed quickly. WICKED came later.

  • Kristin should regret this, she would have had her second tony for this

  • She did. She was really depressed for a really long time, because the thing she chose over Millie failed royally, and she started hating herself for it for quite some time. She though she had made all the wrong choices in life and she was a total failure and everything she ever did would fail. She felt much better after 9/11 when she realized there are much worse things than having your sitcom cancelled.

  • Plus Sutton Foster, the person who took over Kristin's role, won the Tony for Best Actress. That's definatly worthy of feeling like you made a bad decision.

  • @STUPIDxxSITE But it's not like just if Kristin had stayed in the role that she would've won the Tony for it. Or even been nominated. It's not the ROLE they're moniated for, it's how they perform it and how well they play it. Sutton WAS Millie. That's why she won the Tony. I'm not 100% sure Kristin (as much as I adore her) could've pulled it off.

  • She does a great job with this song :)

  • Im LOVE Kristin but i'm glad that Sutton did the role and got a Tony as it set her off for a great career, and Kristin then got Wicked so they were both winners.

  • @xjellymixx actually kristin got "You're a good man Charlie Brown" Idina got "Wiked"

  • @jonsmith3030 I know i just ment she got the role in Wicked not the Tony =)

  • @xjellymixx OH hahaha my b! So you're right kristen got wicked and she was AMAZING!

  • @jonsmith3030 Darn right she was AMAZING! It worked out best for both =)

  • @xjellymixx I totally agree...I don't think Kristin would've been the Millie Sutton was...I LOVE Kristin to death, (I took a weekend trip from California to NY to see her in Promises, Promises...that's love) but Sutton was a PERFECT Millie! And I love her too

  • @xjellymixx . it really poened up alot of doors for her.. for example , SHREK the musical=]

  • @xjellymixx Kristin did not get the Tony for Wicked, Idina Menzel got the Tony for Wicked. Kristin's Tony was from You're A Good Man Charlie Brown.

  • @WitchOfTheNorthWest I know that lol.I just meant that she got the role in Wicked...not the Tony for it =P x

  • @xjellymixx Actually for your information Kristin Got Sally from You're a good man, charlie brown!!!! just throwing that out there!

  • Does anyone have her singing "Gimme, Gimme?"

  • Was Kristen up for Millie?

  • yup..... but idk who was the other person running for millie

  • i looove this song!

  • is this a CD or is it on iTunes

  • hey, guys..was she up for the same role of millie against sutton foster?

  • The part of Millie was written with Kristin in mind. She was supposed to be in the musical, but dropped out to be in a tv show. She talks about it in her book. The show was a flop, and then Sutton won a tony for the musical that Kristin had left. Fortunately she hooked up with Wicked soon after!

  • that's too bad! she would've been an adorably wonderful millie!

  • Although she did say she doesn't regret it. I do love her, don't you?

    The book was great!

  • Yes it was. And she is one of my absolute favorite singers!

  • I have no idea, but what I heard was she turned Millie down because Marc Kudisch (her ex-fiancee) was confirmed to play Trevor Graydon.

  • She left Millie to do a sitcom called KRISTEN which died quickly.

  • @MissLeannxx i heard that they didn't want her for millie and instead for dorothy and she turned it down.

  • i think her and sutton are both amazing .

  • DANCE BREAK!!!

  • hahahahahahahahhahaha OMG i thought they said DANCE FREAK!!! lol thanks for commenting!!!!!!!

  • How did you get Kristin's version of the song? I can't find it on limewire. Could you send it to me?

  • wow this is amazing! i love this version and suttons version

  • Im glad Kristen didnt do Millie. If she did she wouldnt have been glinda in Wicked and that whould be sad..lol..I think Sutton was the best choice for Millie and Kristen was the glinda

  • i don't think she auditioned for the role. She was far too old for the age they were looking for... Kristin is a veteran Broadway star and shortly after this she booked wicked so... but i do agree that sutton is the beast!

  • I'm confused...if Millie is a mezzo-soprano part then does that mean Kristin is a mezzo-soprano?

'cause in wicked she is such a soprano, I mean the part is...

so can someone clear this up, please?

  • I'm sure her more comfortable range is soprano but she has such a huge range I'm sure she could tackle most female ranges.

  • she's a lyric soprano. her range definetly goes beyond a mezzo-soprano

  • kristin has a very wide range. (3 octaves i think) you can hear her lower range in for good, and her cd 'as i am'. so she can go from jazz to broadway, to opera in a heart-beat.

btw, she's a COLORATURA soprano NOT a lyric. "glitter and be gay" for candide is a coloratura aria; i don't know that there are many lyrics that can do that solo. but please correct me if i am wrong.

  • actually i think it's 4 octaves. i'm not sure how exactly you measure an octave. but her range is 4 octaves.

  • Five Octaves. An Octave is when you go from low Do to High Do, and you keep on going up or down stacking them on top of each other.

  • thank you!! i always get confused. thank'y very much!!

  • but what about mariah carey? she has an 8 octave range, what does that mean? i'm sure there aren't even that many notes humanly possible to sing lol!

  • actually, there are! Alexia Khadime (one of the british elphies) also has a range of 8 octaves. look up her singing "his eye is on the sparrow", it is A-MAZING!!! a powerhouse!

  • yet Kristin can only do 3 octaves? so Alexia Khadime has a range nearly 3 times as big as Kristin Chenoweth's?

  • yep. i dunno y, but it is. both are just... OUT OF THIS WORLD though. but as you can see i am not rock solid of the extent of kristin's range. it's all from hear-say and web searching really.

  • no kristin has four octaves. And just because you can sing a wide range of notes doesn't mean you're a better singer. =D

  • Muliple times there has been an "workshop album" on ebay with Kristin and Bea Arthur playing Mrs. Meers. One of these albums was sold for just over $150.

  • wow really bea arthur? i'd love to hear that...

  • personally, i think her voice is more like dorothy rather than millie.

  • I would love to see Kristin play Millie!!

  • Oh. This is cool...

Very different from sutton, but not worse necessarily... just different.

I love me some Kristen... :)

Sutton has a better belt for the part though.

  • I like this and I wish Kristin had played Millie on Broadway because she seems to be much more like Julie Andrew's original Millie than Suttons (and not just voice wise, personality wise as well) and frankly i like the movie best.

  • Sutton Foster was better but she is still amazing

  • i love your name, Elphie Thropp! clever clever!

  • tis would have been soo cool if she were in it! but i love Sutton!

  • I like the section from 1:20-1:34, much better in the finished musical- but I like the section right after that much better than in the original musical, cause it sounds more blunt and less chirpy...

  • DANCE BREAK!

  • Did Cheno ever play Mille in a production?

  • love cheno, love sutton - think sutton is better for the role but thats because i know her as millie. cheno would have done more than a respectful job!

  • Kristin is talented, but I prefer Sutton's voice by far.

  • i love kristin but i like sutton's voice much better for the role :)

  • yea it's funny that even though they wanted to use Kristen first that now that i have seen Sutton, Kristen seems soooo wrong for the role... i Love Kristen but sutton was def the correct cast... She IS millie!!!!!!!!

  • I completely agree! Just like Kristin IS Glinda. It just fits so much better. They are both AMAZING though...two of my favorite performers EVER.

  • Imagine if those 2 switched roles in the beginning, how different wicked/Thoughly modern mille would be ( AKA popular)

  • They wouldn't be the same plays. The first actors influence the way the characters will forever be played.

  • she shouldn't have backed out of the role.

And to think, she only backed to so she could play Kristin in her own sitcom "Kristin," which lasted 6 episodes.

Than again, if she hadn't left this role, she never would have originated Glinda. So I'm kinda glad. But, despite other people's comments, she is better than Sutton.

  • hahah! "DANCE BREAK!"

  • I was in this musical...not on broadway but in my community...we sang and danced to this...this was my favorite favorite scene. We definatly could have been on hollywood we were that good!

  • Hollywood?

    lol do you mean Broadway?

  • she was in ugly betty

  • um... yeah... she was... your point is......?

  • i love how she says "plug" at 0:23!

  • nup sutton owns this song

  • Yeah, she's good, but Sutton Foster is better. But, I'm wiling to bet, Sutton can't do Wicked as well as her.

  • i think everyone is partial to the obcs because they are the first you usually hear

  • i'm not sure wat u mean, so if this sounds stupid, I proably don't understand.

Technically, Kristin is the OBC, cuz' she was the first one chosen to play Millie on broadway.

  • no she was in workshops it doesnt mean that she was the original she was just the first person who it could have possibly been

sortof like how stephanie j block performed elphaba in workshops for wicked but that doesnt mean that idina wasnt the first elphaba

  • I know what you mean. But Kristin was supposed to be Millie. Look it up on wikipedia. (I don't trust wikipedia, but i believe it this time)

  • Its true. They wanted Kristin for Millie but she turned it down.

  • no she turned it down she was never going to be millie on broadway she was chosen for workshops many people do workshops for characters but do not in the end play the on broadway learn to interperate things correctly before telling people they are wrong

  • That still doesn't make her the OBC Millie and actually it was Erin Dilly who was supposed to play her on Broadway. That is, until she got replaced with Sutton Foster.

  • Yeah. She and Sutton have different voices. Both of them are great, but I definitely prefer Sutton for this.

  • Maybe, but Kristin is so talented. Can Sutton dance on point? Or shove her whole fist in her mouth? But, Sutton is better with this song. But, I bet if Sutton, tried No one Moruns The Wicked, Kristin would be so much better.

  • Ha ha, if we're going by that- Can Kristin do a velociraptor impression? Or do half the acrobatics that Sutton did during 'The Drowsey Chaperone"? The are both extremely talented and I don't think that they can be compared as one being especially better than the other based on talent alone. That being said, I love both Kristin Chenoweth and Sutton Foster but I definitely prefer Sutton's lower tone on this particular song.

  • Number one: What the h-e-l-l is a velociraptor?

Second: Can Kristin do the acrobatics? You bet she can! Kristin is an ex-cheerleader. If you listen to one of her interviews, she talks about how she was doing the splits on top of a tower and the girl under her got tired, and Kristin didn't know she was being let down and she fell.

  • It's a dinosaur and Sutton does a hell of a good impression. Like I said before, I like them both and think they are both very talented. But they aren't comparable.

  • I'm fairly sure Sutton can (or could) dance on point... she danced as a kid. As for the fist in the mouth, why would that ever be important professionally?

  • on the jimmy part.. i like her voice better than sutton's. otherwise i think sutton sounds better but they're both amazing

  • lol! me 2! =)

  • Oh, okay. Sorry about that then.

  • ok kewl! sry if i confused u! =)

  • Wow . . . your comment was needlessly rude. I know what 'color' means. Please don't talk down to me.

Yes, she would've been a good Miss Dorothy, but I like the way she sounds on this song. Like I said, it's different. And I never said she would be the best. I said she would've done well.

  • well in 42nd street, the person hu was suposd 2 play the lead ended up getting hurt nd culdnt perform on opening night, so they said that the chorus girl peggy sawyer shuld do it bc shes never missd a rehearsal nd nos evrything, nd she ended up being the lead, so is it kinda like that?

  • where did you find that?

  • I don't know . . . I would've liked to have seen her in it. It would be different, for sure, but I think she would've done pretty well.

  • if kristen starred in it, it would have not been that sucsessfull...............sutton fits it better

  • Kristin is amazing, but she's not really Millie Dilmount, and I love Sutton in the part!!

  • Sorry whoever I just spammed. I meant to hit reply because I totally agree with you. I love Kristin, she was perfect as a Galinda but I think that the part of Millie was like made for Sutton.

  • Kristin does a good job, but Sutton is definitely a million times better than Kristin for the role. They are just so different. Sutton is a modern version of classic broadway stars. She is the epitome of a theatre actress. I love Sutton's voice. Kristin is spunky and fun, but not your typical Broadway actress, but that's a good thing :)

  • wait so hina, it was almost like 42nd street?!

  • She was in the chorus but she was also the understudy.

  • That could've happened too but I think she was the understudy because why else would she know everything.

  • She sounds like Christine Ebersole at some points.

  • Her voice really doesn't suit this role at all.

  • i love kristin! But i think I prefer Sutton in the role of Millie. I wonder if Thoroughly Modern Millie would have actually played as long as it did if Kristin was the lead. I wonder that just because Sutton brought such raw enthusiasm and desperation to the role, which is why she fit so well and got the Tony. I just don't think it would have done as well if Kristin led, I mean I love Krisitn. But also, who knows where Sutton OR Kristin would be if Kristin HAD done it. its all for the better!

  • I would love her to sing this song in a higher key written for her. :D

  • I LOVE this song. I also love Kristin Chenoweth- she's incredible. I do, however, like Sutton Foster on this. Even though Kristen is great! :D

  • "Forget about the boooooooooy--DANCE BREAK!"

    gotta love it!

so was kristin actually in millie?

  • I like Kristin, her voice sounds more era in this song than Suttons does, but I still love Sutton! =D

  • I can listen this over and over and never get bored. I'd love to hear some clips of Kristin singing other Millie songs. Heheh she's like one ofmy favourite actress' and Thorughly Modern Millie is my fabourite musical ever! Sutton Foster is excellent but so is Kristin hehe I don't think we can say if Kristin wouldnt have been as good because we'll never know... unless they do a modern film adaption and Kristin gets the part or something like that heh.

  • and also kristen was offered Suttons part in young Frankenstein and turned it down so Sutton got it!

  • Kristin was offere Megan Mullally's role in Young Frankenstein and turned it down. Inga was always Sutton's.

  • ok Kristin was offered the role did tv instead they gave it to sutton and it was her breakout role and she was amazing now she goes on to star in Drowsy chaperon, little women, young Frankenstein, and now shrek the musical most of these including Millie she was in the original cast. summarization she is amazing Kristen has always been my favorite well now Sutton is right up there with her and Pattie and idina.

  • No. Sutton Foster was the understudy for Millie in the original cast. Erin Dilly was supposed to be Millie but had to drop for some reason in the La Jolla out-of-town run so the gave it to Sutton.

  • I think that Kristin and Sutton would have done great in both keys.... but I really don't think that Kristin is right for this role. I believe her voice is too mature/deep, and Millie should be younger. Kristin is more experienced. Whoever said she's make a great Dorothy, I think you're right!

  • Ah I love her!

  • The only reason some of you say Sutton fits the role best is because you saw/heard her first. Had you seen Kristin's rendition of Millie first, you would say something different. I think Kristin is wonderful in this song.

  • KRISTEN CHENOWITH?!?!?! The (technically) ORIGINAL Millie was KRISTEN CHENOWITH?!?!?! I knew Sutton was originally the understudy, but I didn't realize she got the part from KRISTEN!!!

  • She didn't get it from Kristin. She got offered a TV show and left. Her replacement just wasn't good enough so the producers just picked Sutton out of the chorus.

  • Ok, now I'm REALLY confused! Kristen originally had the part, but she couldn't do it because she was offered a part in a TV show and couldn't be in two places at once. Her understudy got the part, but she kind of sucked, so they picked HER understudy, Sutton Foster. Right? BTW, what was the name of the TV show?

  • it was her short lived sitcom "Kristin"

  • Hmm. Thanks for the info!

  • I wonder how I would like this, hearing it for the first time. I've heard sutton's about a billion times, so I'm prejudiced...

  • this is kool where'd you get the recording?

  • I love Kristin, she's amazing and her voice is incredable but she would not have been right for the role
