  • Do not compare maaninka with Arthur Lydiard trained big names Viren, Vasala, Väätäinen. They really trained it hard under warm atmosphere in Spain, Bazil... maaninka had very difficult step after sports carreer to civil life. Maaninka was the most biggest talent. trained too much, trained in wrong way. He was a man who could not handle things as they are.

  • ÄLÄ katso! Uskovaisten löpinää!

  • @aapoaalto2 Kiitos varoituksesta, vaihdan Vireenin videon katseluun :)

  • So, man was disappointed about reality and turned to religion, i guess that is one way to do it, some men just deal with reality tho...

Btw, he did not cast shadow on track victories of Viren, Väätäinen, Vasala, not for a bit.

  • His countrymen abandoned him when he exposed the practice of blood doping in the Finnish distance program. It was probably the right thing to do since the Finns had already been suspected of the practice, but it certainly cast a cloud of doubt over the great track victories of Viren, Väätäinen, and Vasala. Those victories are a great source of pride for the Finnish people, and then here one of their own countrymen rats them out!

I respect Maaninka for his honesty.

  • For the possible international viewers of this video, I sum up its contents: former Finnish long-distance runner Kaarlo Maaninka tells how he became disillusioned with many of his acquaintances, when they abandoned him after his running career began to go downhill soon after the 1980 Moscow Olympics. He started to think about Christian matters, and in the fall of 1981 he became a Christian. At the end of the video, he urges the yet unsaved viewers to become Christians, too.
