the tuning explains his "sloppy" playing at certain spots. if you've been using thick strings for a long time and then switch to thin strings you have to adapt your picking mechanism to that.

@warlock927 while picking, touch the string you just plucked as well with your thumb, so that the string is pinched between the pick and your thumb. pick like this, and you get pinch harmonics! takes a bit of practice.

My one video has me doing a few at the beginning of the song if you want to hear what they sound like
