I am in no position to give advice, but are you aware that it's more eifficient when you have a fill spirit bar to use the R , Triange, R, Triangle, R... etc combo rather than spam R. It uses less spirit and does more damage.

I'm not saying I'm godly or anything, I think it's just possible you didn't want to pull off the combo since you can't stop half way through it and put youself at risk.

Naruga tails CAN come off. They're just harder to do. First you gotta break its first layer. Then you can proceed to cutting it off. My friend and I have done it lots of times. :D
