Just curious have an electra dyne on layaway should have very soon, but was wondering how a 200 watt old mesa boogie black shadow EV speaker vs the current celestion?
Mesa Boogie Electra Dyne = the best package: not much knob tweaking, wonderful dynamics, verstile, footswitchable and perfect overdrive with just the right amount of gain and saturation. Only con: price.
@MikefromMesia Hahaha.....I've said that many times. My amp evolution has been Peavey Bravo, Marshall Valvestate, Marshall JCM900, Marshall JCM2000, Marshall Vintage Modern, Budda Superdrive 30, Orange AD30HTC.
When I bought the Orange I said that was the one. Now I'm looking for something new.
im thinking of unloading my marshall super lead head for something like this..i am now going to the less and less pedals route..but the electra dyne is on the heavy side
If you are only switching gain stages. .then the clean tones would have to be at a much lower volume. . the crunch tones would be a notch up in volume with the lead tones at the highest volume. . much like the way I like to play in a band. . using my volume control on my guitar instead of dancing on pedals. But there might be times when you need the clean tones to be as loud as the lead tones? Very different design. . something that I would need to really play to understand I guess?
@74LesPaul The difference, from what I understand, is that the "modes" all share an EQ, whereas channels have independent EQ. But there are channel switching amps with a shared EQ too, so there could easily be no difference.
Just download the manual and look at the tube assignment.
2 sets of 3 preamp tubes = 6 tubes-1 for clean 1 for reverb 1 for phase inverter 3 for GAIN!! (phase inverter would make it look like 4 in a average amp)
@eggman6 i dont think the E.D. is based on any specific amps or circuits i think its more of a voicing thing ...u get that great boogie american tweed clean tone and a more british voiced overdrive section
@live2rock4u yes this amp is absolutely fantastic and in regards to its tone, just guitar and amp its my definitive favorite boogie amp Ive ever heard and played
it's an excellent amp. there's a knob in the back that enables you to match the c;ean-overdrive levels which makes this amp very good..and its'simple..
the only thing is that it's on the heavy side.. but if you're strong, no problems there
nice dude, that is exactly why i like this amp because of the simplicity of the amp... because im so used to having fender amps and they are simple but the clean and overdrive volume levels kind of suck in the fender amps because they change, but you saying that i can match the clean and overdrive is icing on the cake, and i would definitly buy this beauty... thanks
@benthemiester he also took several phone calls personally that i had i made to mesa regarding questions i had had with my dual rectifier, very nice guy and very helpful
I had a guy demo a combo for me at my local dealer, then played it myself. You have to hear it in person-it's unbelievable. Sounds like a half stack when you crank it up too-awesome projection, huge sound, cuts like a straight razor. Lots of amp for the money. It'll send any other combo I can think of to the woodshed for a leather strap across the ass.
Actually I was never really looking to get metal. just saying that the LSS isn't designed for it. That said I just traded the LSS in for a triple rectifier head. I got a 1x12 and 2x12 pair of stiletto cabinets. Same speakers as the recto cab but they are more compact and lighter. I was thinking about the electradyne but when I got to the store they had a used mint condition triple rect... i had to take the deal...
And let me add this, The elctra dyne has channels to switch between, it's clear in the video. The controls are even voiced so that when you switch channels they are geared towards the channel selected. Mesa makes very versatile amps but sometimes that equates to alot of tweaking to find what you are looking for. This amp is designed so that you can put all the settings at noon and have your bread and butter tones - no fuss. Tweak to your particular style. Thinking of trading in the special.
Naturally, the classic with 2x12 is heavier than the Special with its single speaker. Both are quite a load to carry though! But tube amps are supposed to be heavy aren't they? But classic is also available in a single speaker combo as well. They also come as just heads.
It has great tone and it's really heavy! I'm filing this one under "Not an Issue"! They put wheels on it so you can push it around. Buy a dolly man!
The Special is not as heavy! Probably the same weight or less than the Supersonic. The Classic is the real heavy one unless you get the 1x12 version. But if you want the tone then forget about the weight! You do what you gotta do to get the tone man!
The Santana tone on this amp is pure heaven! You basically turn the vol way up and dial back the Master Vol and you can do Carlos all day long! I just don't get the single channel thing. That's why I would pick the Lonestar for the type of tone you're asking about. Plus having multiple channels makes the Lonestar more versatile in my book.
Electra Dyne is definitely more in line with that style, no doubt about it. The recto is about heavy rock and metal. It can DO classic rock, sorta, but it's a much more hifi, scooped sound than classic Marshall tones.
That would be NO. This thing is loud. I have the head sitting on a Rec 2X12 cab and it is only slightly louder than the 1X12 combo. Coolest thing is that I can take it home for writing and get the same tone as stage volume. Not only will you compete in a night club venue but you could really just smoke the drummer if you wanted to, and this thing has enough low on tap that you could drown the bass player also. Volume will most likely never be an issue.
Please forgive the last comment. I'm a noob. Just read the manual and I realize the rear jack is for channel switching. I ordered my head yesterday. I can't wait.
This is one amazing amplifier. You HAVE to try it for yourself. It sounds completely different in real life, and wasn't captured as realistically on this demo. It's honestly just about the most perfect tone of any amp out there. Mesa have accomplished something incredible, once again. :-)
The sound of this amp, especially the intro is so close to the sound Richie Blackmore had on the album Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and the song Man on the Silver Mountain. (the studio version). hmm i have to get this amp. Great sounding.
Toward the end of the video the on-screen says, "45 watt Class A or 90 watt Class A/B." Almost everywhere else I've heard it and read it to be 45 watt Class A/B and 90 Watt Class A/B and Class A combined in Simulclass. Since both comments are fro Boogie reps they should clarify this. It is important.
Is it just me, or did he totally nail Adam Jones' sound (from Tool) at 1:50?

Marcus Daniel convinced me to buy this amp; and its the best purchase I've ever made.
My evolution of my amp ownership :
Rogue 1x10 to Crate 2X12 to Line 6 Vetta to Palomino V16 to Marshall JCM 900 and now the Electra dyne. End. Peroid. Cap. Ceiling. Best amp ever.
