That coat makes me feel kinda funny, like when we used to climb the rope in gym class. Those long sleaves are impractical for anything other than tying her up.
oh excuse me ... ha ha i just realised chun king express is that same movie that i watched , i was watching a series of lin qing xia movies and didnt know wat it was called.
Hi guys. I wonder, is this the only cantonese cover version of the Cranberries' "Dreams"? or, there's another one?
my little bro said, he liked the chinese version more than the Cranberries. something from his childhood memories. but he said he remembered in the chinese film, there was a mermaid character.
I've read Chungking Express's synopsis. it didn't mention any sort of mermaids.
So, I wonder what my little bro claimed is true or not (about another cantonese version in that mermaid film)
Yes, this is the only Cantonese version of Dreams by Faye Wong. And it only appeard in Chungking Express. I guess your brother might have mistaken another nice song called "Angel" (also by Faye Wong)as "Dreams". "Angel" appeared in a well-known Chinese movie roughly translated into "Mermaid Legend".
My wife recently passed away... this was her favorite song.... One she listened to while in the hospital... While, being Chinese she understood the words; I not being Chinese did not and never asked her for a translation.... Now its important that I know the words if they are different than the original English [Cranberry] version... I would appreciate a literal translation if anyone can send me same
Don't like it as much as the cranberries version. This version seems to be sped up a bit which takes away from the epic feeling I get from the original version.
It would be nice if we can have both Dolores & Faye side by side on the same stage singing this song with both of them singing a verse each in Cantonese & English.
oh my god chunking express!! dam loved that movie. It sort of defined what being chinese was like in the early 90s. though i know not many liked it. i loved it
faye was the only artist in asia that had a nice canto pop style. She had style that broke tradition and an attitude that just shut alot of gossipers up. loved that.
As much of a fan of Faye Wong that I am, I still prefer the original Cranberries version.
To my ears, the original is simpler, more open to interpretation, more raw, and more of a dream state/a state of realization and moment of epiphany versus the cover which focuses more about the contents of the dream itself rather than the dream state.
I do like this cover, but to me, the feel of the original phrase of "You have my heart so don't hurt me," seems to have gotten lost in all of the specifics.
This is my favorite Faye song! It introduced me to Faye's wonderfull music after watching Chunking Express on DVD for the first time. What a great, great movie that is btw!
A ripoff from the Cranberries' Dreams; but I will remember Faye Wong for that MEga Wierd outfit. I purposeful pulled out my sleeves so that it would cover up my hands like Faye Wong while I was singing the original Cranberries version at a Karaoke get together yesterday!
not just a magnificient vocal performer;but also a great personality.

Chungking express
the movie simple
it sets a mood in the viewers like no other movies can
indescribable
the ending was great :D
(let the viewer decide on how the relationship will play out) [instead of letting the writer think for the viewers]
all and all we need more movies like Chungking Express

@NeoVictorianX Long sleeves like that are part of traditional Chinese dance/theatre culture. Wong's here are obviously a modern take on it.
destructicon500 9 months ago
So much better than those Chinese love ballads, innumerable and banal, she too often sings. So much better than the Cranberries.

I believe it's actually the other way around. The Cranberries came out with this song AFTER Faye. And I think Faye's version is MUCH better. =)
