Not a great example of the T1 - Sound was recorded using another device then overdubbed and you used a lens that costs 3x the amount of the camera, if not more.. meh
i have this camera too, and i hate that fucking auto iso and no manual adjustment, just som random light settings. i got alot of noise when i film in low light, why is that ?
don't take dslr for video .. i have the 500d its nice for picture but in video its fail , no auto focus , no manual iso , no manual f , crappy sound ...
@playfsx it certainly does not fail in the video department. you have to remember a couple things. this was the second dslr(ever) to have hd video. this is also a mid-priced camera so you cannot expect it to have the options that nicer cameras will have such as manual aperture or iso. autofocus is another perk you get with a nice camera. besides all these things the video is still very usable...
Okay, you are obviously PMSing, but its okay. Don't hate because i actually own this camera, I just don't research it. Last, go brush you teeth with some industrial cleaner, because cursing is bad!
@kaups007 if you buy used, how many actuations has the camera done? (camera shutter open and close). otherwise, if you don't know, the shutter will lock-up if it has reached max actuations.
Bought mine d500 yesterday... Still checkin it out, but seems to be really good one ;) Didnt buy it cuz of video option, but its nice to have such option. Im a lot in nature and sometimes it's better to take the video ( than pictures) to capture real emotion ;)
Can anyone please tell me if EOS 500D is the same thing as Rebel T1i 500D ? I can only find the former in Hong Kong, need a camera to take video for youtube. Thanks!
you can record up to 4g. that's about 18 minutes in 720p. you then have to turn off the cam and turn it back on. the battery is what limits videos. you definitely need a battery grip and some old manual focus (and aperture) lenses to go along with the t1i.
In HD mode (1280 x 720px, 30 fps) it takes less than 200Mb per minute. My memory card is 16Gb, so about 80 minutes. Other thing is battery: i havent mesured, but filming eats battery fast. Im sure it cant last 80 minutes, so you need extra batteries. And maybe extra hard drive :)
this is just as good as television companies EXPENSIVE cameras, and I simply dont see the difference between this and all the 16mm movie downloads....
As i commented: lens was Canon 100-400. Kit is not enough for animals and birds, you have to be only couple meters from animal or bird. For recordind horses and horse events as video? Why not, but you need good tele lens.
Very beautiful. So is this taken with the lens it comes with in the kit? Would you recommend the Canon Rebel T1i for recording horses and horse events such as show jumping and barrel racing? Thx so much
ruanx84, sound is recorded with the cameras built-in microphone. Lens must be always good, you can use bad lens with good camera and get bad results.

Not with the kit lens, you must brough like L lens and use the correct manual setting This video use L lens Canon 100-400. which cost like $1500

I personally still opted to grab a 40D over paying the extra for the 500D.
Those shots look amazing, but I weighed up the reasons I was purchasing a new DSLR in the first place - and it was photography, not video.
I guess I just opted for the specialist camera, not the jack of all trades - master of none.
Very well done on that vid though mate. It looks lovely.

How long can you record, before the memory card is full? 10 minuts? A hour?

does the 5D mk II?

Nope. And professional cameras also not. But with 5D Mark II you can at lease choose aperture and ISO, in 500d its all automatic...
