@lvdm4life I kinda agree with u about covers are never as good as good as originals but i think maybe this and johnny cashs cover of.hurt.by nine inch nails.are better than original. That song sounded like it was written by johnny cash
Song is wayyyyy too slow. Glad they appreciate Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy though. I keep seeing Corgan liking the same bands as I do; I just can't get with his versions of any of the songs.
If you're gonna cover a song,do it justice! If you claim to be related to someone, pronounce their last name correctly! Finally, someone tell him to cheer the fuck up! The song is about doin the wrong thing and it making you feel so happy that you couldn't care less.
@Trickykid97 Do it Justice? This version is just as good if not better then the original. I enjoy the original and give it respect, but if you are going to cover a band it is a lot classier if you make it sound like your own stuff rather than trying to replicate the exact thing.
you can't cover something better than the original. Not just of Thin Lizzy, but of anything. You can't play something better than the way it was written, because that's how it's supposed to be. Covers can be very good, but they can't be better than how it was written.
@lvdm4life Um, Yeah... I am going to have to disagree with that. Whether or not a cover is better depends on the listener's taste of music more than the song. For example, if any band that isn't rap covers a rap song, I am going to like the cover better because I don't like rap. It's personal opinion, not the band.
If Justin Beiber covered a smashing pumpkins song and then thousands of people started claiming the cover was better I'd be pissed off and argue otherwise, but that's their opinion.
i see what you're saying, but it really doesn't matter who the listener is, or what their opinion is. The way an artist writes something and performs it is the way it is supposed to be. A cover can't be better than the original, because it isn't the original. easy as that, a cover can never overcome an original because it isn't the exact sound and flow that the artist had and wanted.
@lvdm4life you're a tool go listen to some covers, by saying that you've showed your ignorance, there are many covers that are better than the original, you fuckin useless seed, like your opinion fuckin matters anyway
okay why dont you just drop it? cuz you havenothing better to do? i thought so.
and maybe if he pronounced Phil Lynott's name right, I'd consider listening. But no, he had to go and not only ruin the song, but completely dishonor the deceased song writer here. who was a hell of a lot more talented then the smashing pumpkins (as much as I love their originals, its so true that he was better).
nice cover, but still cant touch to Phils way of doin it. some songs dont suit when are singin by depressed billy, just my opinion, waaay waaay worse than original
billy's is wayy better than thin lizzys, and i love thin lizzys, its the one i heard first, just came across this version and i like it soo much more.
Yea so if you wanna know what the DJ says at the beginning of track, that's sthg like:
"Extraordinary complicity between both guitarists uh.. Billy and Jimmy who do not stop lookin' each other.. laughin' while.. while playin'.. big looseness"
I adore this cover. There is something seductive about the way Billy sings it, and you can feel a unified feel with the band. I think they may have been a bit stoned but if so it worked for them, Billy needs to chill a bit sometimes :D
Lynott was a legend. great song writer great musician great singer great personality.... great cover here by a great band .... there is a lot of great in that sentence
This is an amazing cover! Wow! I love both Smashing Pumpkins and Thin Lizzy and I was a bit shocked when I heard they covered this song, but it's actually very good. =]

Thanks for posting this. How cool, I would never think of Smashing Pumpkins playing a cover of this song. It's originally by King Harvest, I wonder why even Billy Corgan doesn't seem to know that. Oh well, great anyway :)
Dude... no offense but you're a moron. This is originally Thin LIzzy. Written by Phil Lynott in 1977 off the album Bad Reputation. YOU ARE WRONG. Idiot. When I said 'no offense' I actually meant 'I don't give a toss if I offend you'
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well that's strange 'cause I looked this up and the information I found said that it was written in 1968 by Sherman Kelly, brother of King Harvest's drummer Wells Kelly. Wells was the one who introduced the song to King Harvest in the first place. But the first band who actually recorded it, Boffalongo, did so in 1970. So actually I was wrong, it wasn't King Harvest, it was Boffalongo. Anyway, I don't see how not knowing who wrote something makes a person unintelligent.
As wikipedia says: Thin Lizzy's 1977 UK single release - "Dancin' In The Moonlight (It's Caught Me In Its Spotlight)" should not be confused with the King Harvest song, as it is a completely different track.
@rbx374rbx274f No, actually. The song was originally written and performed by a band called King Harvest in 1972. Versions by Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy, The Smashing Pumpkins and Toploader are all cover versions. King Harvest will always be the original and best version. Get your facts straight. No offense...
@spacecowboy5000 I'm sorry. The King Harvest / Toploader song is a different one. This one is often called "Dancing in the moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight)". If you check the lyrics for the King Harvest song they are different from the Thin Lizzy song too.
Yeah, I've got this version of the song except it doesn't have the French guy talking at the start...awesome song, got about 3 different versions on my comp :)
