it was written by Bob Dylan, but, as far as I recall, when the BSG series ended, the outro was Jimi Hendrix's All along the watchtower, not BSG's (nor Dylan's).
if you remember at one point Anders said that he had once played the song to a girl back on "Earth" or there Earth. and how kara knew the song can go one of two ways or both either she learned it from her dad (which she did) or it is one of those things that is ingraned in the univerce and as they said threw the whole thing "this has happend before and will happen again" so why not the song first Anders then 5 thousand years later karas dad and herself then the whole existence on earth up.....
@mrslovvet They never concretely said so, but when she played All Along the Watchtower, all the original five heard her and demanded to know how she knew that song. Sol Tigh's wife said that Daniel, the missing 7th cylon was sensitive and a musician. Kara's father just disappeared one day. Father Cabul destroyed the Daniel model cylon. There are enough disconnected threads dropped here and there to safely assume that yes, the man playing the piano was her father, and that he was the 7th cylon.
@Liftedkilt but then how could Kara engage the cylons in combat whilst Anders could not? How could she not project or realize that boomer was a cylon when Hera being a hybrid could? so unless Kara's father was not her biological father the connection is a very loose one. Now you factor in that she only played the song after she returned from the Maelstrom and could it not have been "God" that implanted it into her as a memory as a way of fulfilling her destiny after her return??
I'd absolutely love the sheet music for it, but I don't think it exists, and no one has attempted to transcribe it either. I guess Bear's such a genius no one can even begin to comprehend all those notes.
@basefree123 It does not! Bear McCreary recently came out with a Battlestar Galactica Sheet Music book, in which this is in. You can buy it off of Amazon :D
Beautiful, I hear Erik Satie and even Ravel on occasion. After I stop trying to figure out his "comparable to", I just marvel at Bear McCreary's compositions and how his music captivates my ears. This is the stuff that will eventually make it into the repertoire of classical music radio. Until then, it's youtube.
@islanumblar This is testament to McCreary's sheer talent as a composer. The piece brilliantly reflects the conflict of emotions Kara feels for her (presumably late) father and, in a way, describes the melancholy of her own life. It's almost a gift from her father for her.
This may be my favorite piece from all of Battlestar Galactica. I've gone to sleep to this every night since the album first came out. It's beautiful.
The best part of this song is the bit at the end, which lines up with the excellent scene of Tyrol falling on his knees after discovering what Boomer did.
i'll never forget chief tyrol falling to his knees while this was playing. i felt so bad for him.

In my opinion (even completely aside from it's context) this song represents the closest humanity has come to musical/ compositional perfection.

untill present day because if you remember the very last song was along the watch tower by jimi hendrix so even the song was repeated threw out time.
and karah was able to see her dad at the bare because he was a gohst and she herself was already dead by that time.
deathrider217 9 months ago
@deathrider217 You say this as if Battlestar Galactica is a historical video instead of a TV show... and Hendrix didn't write the song.

@OmalleyDoc
that means that the guy that you replied to was right, a song by Jimi Hendrix (his version) was played in the series.
"Er Ok" to you too.
VyserisSrbija 5 months ago
@VyserisSrbija Umm no, it still wasn't written by him.
OmalleyDoc 5 months ago
@OmalleyDoc but the dylan version is never played in the series, and the end of the series its Hendrix's

Stylistically reminiscent of Ravel and Gershwin. Great song!

I'm torn between this and Battlestar Sonatica as my favourite piece from BSG. Both are sublime.

this sounds a bit like debussy, are there any other composers who sound a bit like this
maxrutc09 2 years ago
some phillip glass does. but his music was in the series anyway
aaron1138 2 years ago
PG had music in BSG? I thought there was something that sounded like metamorphasis but i'm having difficulty finding it again
Loveandbullets1 2 years ago
yeah metamophosis 1 was used in the ep in karas home on caprica, they used it as a way of introducing her father as a piano player
aaron1138 2 years ago
@ maxrutc09
Yeah, a little bit like Rachmoninoff, perhaps Beethoven, Glass, and some Lizst.
zenrarity 2 years ago
@zenrarity Liszt :)

@maxrutc09 i agree it does have a debussy style, but i still find it beautiful and uniquely it's own

peace is nothing but the result of war, anyway this was the best song in the series. you need big hands to play piano great.

It's beautiful and evoking. But I am somewhat disappointed it doesn't contain the bit in the episode's ending but instead just trails off.
