I doubt SMADM not being released on DVD has anything to do with this song's association with Song of the South. This song is still widely used in the Disney Parks and other Disney productions. It's just pretty much impossible to edit SOTS in a way to eliminate the potentially racist portions and also have a storyline that makes sense. Anyway, I digress. I would love to see this on DVD.
@xoxochayanne Title of WHICH DVD?? Neither 'Song of the South' or 'Simply Mad About the Mouse' has been released on DVD. From what it sounds like, neither will EVER be released on DVD. (too bad, cuz I like SMAM and Song/south is a good movie).
@TheITinFIT Well, Song of the South is said to be racist and Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is from that. I think that's what they were trying to figure out, and were just misinformed that part of the song was racist instead of the movie it was from.
@HarryPotter87 It's the film which is considered racist, and the song is called the song of the south, so the song has a racist legacy attached to it, but by itself, there's nothing wrong.
That was the only really good remake of a disney classic that i really liked out of Mad About the Mouse from 1991. The remainder of the songs were pretty lame by comparison. I am a huge cars fan and of Ric Ocasek, and yes it is is in his traditional artsy format. Anyone recognize a huge portion of fantasia in this video and some of Alice in Wonderland? BTW thank you for posting this class video.
I remember watching these and not knowing who the artists were, or what half the songs were from, but it was still cool. I think it's even cooler now that I get what's going on :]
Wow, didn't know he did this..never saw it before. It's kinda cute. I've always been a huge Cars fan, so it's a bit weird hearing and seeing this, but he does kind of fit it. Thanks for posting this.
I am here watching these videos that You have Posted from Simply Mad about The Mouse, and I am getting Near Emotional.
I CANNOT Thank you Enough for Posting these Videos. I am A ChildHood Fan of Disney, and This Reminds me of When I first watched This On The Disney Channel. This was A Special On There Before Disney Sold Out Its` Traditions.
I am Happy to Know and Learn that At Least That Tradition STILL Means Something To More People Than Just Me.
Thank you very much Dwight! I'm so happy I could make you feel this way, I get the same happy nostalgia watching this too. I'm also a fan of Disney ever since I was a kid, and Simply Mad About the Mouse is one of the reasons why.
These Videos of Simply Mad About The Mouse Remind me of The Characters that Disney Hires People to Bring to Life in The Parks. And Todays Disney Broadcasting has robbed me of This Disney, and to me, The Heads of Broadcasting at Disney Channel, ABC, etc. are Nothing short of The Equivalant of Committing Theft .
They had better wake up and Humble Themselves in The " Magic Kingdom(s) Outside of The Parks ".
I remember being creeped out by this video (and song) when I was younger, but now when I listened to it before Fantasmic!, I noticed that it had a kind of Beatlesque tinge to it, especially from the bridge to the end. (Listen to those last chords if you don't believe me!)

This sounded dated in 1991 and it sounds about the same today. Hideous new-wave leftover. Hard to believe this is the same Rick Ocasek from The Cars; some people still swear that Heartbeat City was the point at which they sold their souls! What an insult to Uncle Remus!
This video is as equally horrible as the song. The video effects are cheap and Ocasek's wardrobe could make a small child cry.
I didn't remember Ric Ocasek's heads covering the top3elephant heads, i remember the regular version that's in Dumbo being there, but it kinda scary nonetheless.
I used to have the SMATM tape as a kid, and this was my favorite video on it. I used to refer to Ric as "the funny-looking guy." I can't seem to find the tape anywhere, but I still have the album. SMATM will outplay Disneymania anyday. Thanks for uploading.

@TheITinFIT I'm guessing he's talking about the fact that it came from the Disney film, Song Of The South.

In an interview around the early 90's, Ric said The Cars broke up because they ran out of creative ideas. Heh heh, yeah. I GUESS!

I remember this one a LOT, I still have the tape in the house!
When I was little, 1:38 - 1:44 creeped me out soooo much.
