  • People who are not properly schooled, do not have the suppleness of the trained rider. They also do not have the ability to properly collect their mount without overflexing. If you look at the lippazans you wont see this long-necked slender horse being pulled in tightly. you see a well proportioned head and neck slightly angled in giving the appearance of a drawn round horse. People are crazy!

  • I can't believe that this is what dressage means in the USA. It's ridiculous, I had a super Appaloosa that had better ability to perform proper dressage ettiquette with no bridle. He won awards for eye appeal and proper form, impulsion and cadence. He never looked as stressed, hooked in by the bridle or frightened or angered. This is not satisfying to watch. I love dressage-it's really more ballet, rolling movement, persona of the horse and rider-should appear effortless.

  • why do they all do it? it is sooo stupid, if i ever saw someone riding like that i would pull them up about it!

  • How do you get propulsion from the rear when the head is cranked past vertical?

  • Love how at 0.46 to 0.57 her leg is so far back she appares to be actively spurring him in the groin. If she'd let go of his mouth maybe should could use less leg. I guess this is what happens when you use "warmbloods," formerly known as European cart horses, for dressage.

  • Rollkur is ridiculous and frankly, it doesn't work. I don't know why people bother doing this to their horses when not only is it bad for them mentally and physically (they get stressed, and I would too in that situation!) but it totally detracts from the 'beauty' of dressage when an animal is clearly uncomfortable and looks like a contortionist!

  • The video is excellent, and serves to point out how so-called world champions have twisted the sport into something worthless and unrecognizable to anyone who calls himself a horseman. This guy has the harshest hand and the worst legs I've seen at this level other that that goddam Anky piece of shit.

  • How unbeleivable unattractive.. The whole purpose of dressage is for the horse to looke as if it is floating and effortless.. not all cramped up like that.. Seriously, there are some poepl I wouldn't hesitate to shoot..

  • That looks like its really uncomfortable for the horse. It's one thing to put your horse on the bit, it's another to put his chin between his legs. =P

  • Do you know who I think rides beautifully? Linda Parelli, she has a lovely relaxed way of riding without looking like a sack of spuds (like I do!)

  • you know what else? linda parelli teaches kids to jump horses over picnic tables without helmets.

  • I was talking about the way she rides, not the way she teaches it. A lot of people in America do not ride with riding hats.

  • she really has to YANK that horse to a stand still at the beggining thats sooo sad i feel so sorry for that horse being yanked around like that and with its head sooo low and tight contact and with such a harsh bit aswell :(

  • that poor horse!!! i do dressage and my horse doesnt go that round but at least his face isnt getting ripped off! thats so cruel to that poor animal.

  • Thats the whole point, if a horse is round and moving correctly his back should be up and he should be using his hind end and his nose shouldnt be on his chest. Dont worry you dont want your horse to look like that.

  • It's sad to see how warped dressage has gotten. I'll stick with what I am doing. We may not look the prettiest but at least my horses are happy.

  • It is truly sad that a horse has to be cranked past the vertical ala Baucher to be considered a winner in Classical dressage. I found a wonderful foundation for all my backyardy-style horsemanship in Alois Podhajsky's book, and although I am a horrible rider, that is who I strive to be like. I may never make a horse as well as he could but his ideals are the best to shoot for, IMO.

  • It was one of his books that got me into dressage! His style truly is an art form- I bet your'e not really a "horrible rider" if you have such high goals and ideals!

  • LOL. Thanks for the vote of confidence, but every kid who plays PeeWee hockey dreams of hoisting the Stanley Cup. And if you want to see just how bad a rider I am, LOL, go check out my vids.

  • The true art of dressage has been so sadly lost. What happened to harmony between horse and rider? There are people I know that can have their horse collect, flex etc with no saddle or bridle. There is no harmony here. The horses are unhappy, they disunite in their strides, their tails are constantly swishing... read the freaking signs.

  • I'm a huge hater of spurs and draw reins...although any training tool can be misused....draw reins, spurs, tie downs and martingales specificly. I don't see anyone complaining how cruel tieing your horses head down is??? Now that makes your horse lean on is forehand.

  • and jaccko14 i'm not saying that anky is a bad rider, i know she is one of the best - she will always be

i'm just angry with people that use rollkur cuz it's not healthy for horses

  • horseyfreak - why get anrgy at people who use rollkur? Do some research on why it can be good for horses and see why its actually good. I'm not asking you to change your opinion at all, im asking you to take a look from my view, and trust me, i have looked from your view many of times, and still am now.

  • thanks for advice :)

  • rollkur is good it helps horses used different muscles and a different frame to what they would use in classical dressage.

  • The horses are also extremely uncomfortable. Watch the video. They frequently disunite. Tails are constantly swished - a sign of unhappiness/ discomfort.

  • tail swishing isn't a sign of unhappiness or discomfort, have u seen the video of andreaus helgastrand at the WEG the horse swishes its tail all the time, almost constantly hyperflexion can't be hurting the horse to the degree that u say it does use some common sence. if ur horse wanted to pull away to get away from the pain they would, horses necks are stronger than ur arms like a million times over if you do hyperflexion correctly it can be very helpful

  • Have you ever been equipped in a double bridle with a crank noseband? With a rider constantly sawing at your mouth, possibly cutting off the circulation to your tongue, and kicking you in the side? Your neck forced into awkward positions like a police officer twisting your arm? So use some commen sense yourself.

  • I can't count how many times I have seen a horse bolt randomly during their training while the rider is using the rollkur as their training method and the horses were punished for it. Your rite horses are obviously stronger then there arm when they don't have a double bridle on with someone yanking on it. this is a horrible way to ride and is animal abuse! does that neck position look natural? have you ever seen you horse in the feild runing like that?

  • in this vid you can see that this horse is so trying to get the bridle out of his mouth... saliva is all around his lips because of that (i mean there is to much of saliva)

I feel so sorry for this horse

  • crack! looks relaxed to me. is ulrikethiel challenged in some way? the description says that the horse cannont follow in the hind end. Well he is wrong, the horses hind legs are almost reaching under to the centre of gravity. The horses back is relaxed and its going at the best of his ability. I really like this method, and this video is great to watch, apart from the fact that its trying to say its bad. When clearly it is not.

  • okay, but why is he so behind the vertical?

    he almost can't see infront

    dooooohhhh

  • he is not reaching under himself, it is an optical illusion, like over canting in the QH industry. It is backwards to the principle of suppleness and relaxion that is dressage. It is seen too much in Arabs and is poor training, a horse cannot get away when the hands are stiff as stone. There is no following, that is the main problem with poor riding skills. It may be okay for less than 1%, but it is harmful to others.

  • he has saliva beacuse he is working with the bit

  • yeah sure beth.... When a horse is on the bit he is soft in the mouth and that produces saliva. When he cannot swallow properly he produces saliva, and more and more of the stuff until it is literally dripping down his chest.

  • what do we always learn in True Dressage? Poll Up! Rollkur is NOT good training, no matter how high level the rider. Just like "training Forks" on western horses.

  • its to make the horse gather its hindquarters underneath him and and to gibe hinm taht boost

  • And that the horse is in pain isn´t important?

  • Actually when riding with rollkur, thye horse can't use its hindquarters properly because of its positioning. Horses trained with rollkur are heavier on the forehand than they should be.

  • Overflexation/rollkur causes the horse to be strung out behind. If you knew anything about horse anatomy, you'd know that rollkur puts the horse more on his forehand. Their gaits are broken, they have no grace or harmony when they move.

Go do some research before making false/idiot claims like "its to make the horse gather his hindquarters."
