This is Joan Rhodes: professional strongwoman. Believe me, there's nothing fake here. She was freakishly strong, its little to do with muscle balk and a lot to do with super tough tendons and ligaments, a genetic advantage she has (she's 88 now) over us mere mortals. Two czech weightlifters watching one of her shows thought she was a phoney, so she invited them on to stage and bent an iron bar in front of them after neither managed to put a dent in it.
yeah they weren't even pulling. I don't know about this girl. I know she's strong but there is no muscle in her forearms really. Something is up there cause it's muscle that contracts to give you strength and that just doesn't seem right what I'm seeing. I dunno. I'm skeptical until I travel back in time to wrestle her.
I have read a book on how to do many of these feats of strength and have done them myself. Including the bending of the nail and tearing of the phone book. They are common tricks used by carnival sideshows for ages.
It was years ago that I bought it from an article out of the back of a magazine. It was a cheap paperback book, but it explained very simply many of the feats of strength. Tearing a phonebook is simply holding it firmly by the spine, bend and crack it across your knee. The unbroken portion of the spine holds the two stacks of paper in place. It is simply tearing paper then. It is simpler than you think. I can't remember the name of it. Sorry.
I have seen her bend nails and break phone books that did not look brittle. I have also seen her balance a 7 foot man on her stomach and lift up Bob Hope as if he weighed 10 lbs.
Not to make light of her achievements but if you put a phone book in the oven for about 30 mins you can make it brittle enough to easily tear in half. That's an old strongman's trick ;)
She also had another Video here, called "Iron Girl In a Velvet Glove",where she sensually bends an Iron Bar,Moaning sexually!

I wouldn't fancy your chances. Back in the 1950s she wrecked a car with her bare hands live on British television.
