using a simple u-siphon like the one you showed, where would you place the reducer? on the shaft in the inside of the bed, the shaft the outside of the bed, or the horizontal portion connecting the two?

the small pipe can be added to start the syphon if you have a smaller pump it work the same way as the reducer on the top of the bell syphon stand pipe

this is where the syphon will start once the syphon is running the fall of water will take over
