  • When he quotes Rachmaninov asking him "Please, Benno...play my scherzo", what patronimic does he give himself, Benno Edvardovich? I can't quite make it out.

  • What a fascinating story. And you know, he's right; Moieivitsch's recording of the Scherzo IS better than Rachmaninoff's (though of course R's is brilliant as well).  Both recordings are on youtube; if you haven't heard them you're missing out.

    the scriabin concerto, the schumann concerto, the liszt sonata, what a shame we have none of these!
