@mitch19636 It's true that "parakeet" usually applies to small to medium sized parrots, but it's typically only applied to members of the psittacidae group, whereas cockatoos are part of the taxonomic group cacatuidae. Normally any "broad tailed parrot" qualifies as a parakeet, which cockatoos are not.
Cockatoos do make wonderful pets however, I hear. They're supposed to be very sweet birds. I'm sorry to hear he passed away.
These are Sulfer Crested Cockatoos. Cockatiels are similar to Cockatoos, but smaller. Parakeets are the smaller branch of the parrot family, including but not limited to Budgies. So no, they're not Parakeets or Cockatiels. They're Cockatoos, and they're much, much larger than Parakeets x3
@kristyisaninjaturtle Parakeet is the common american term for Budgerigar, a lovely australian native Bird. Although, parakeet can refer to any small to medium size Parrot. Cockies or Sulfer Crested Cockatoos are a large parrot. They can make a wonderful pet. we had one in the family that lived to the grand age of 72.
He could tallk, sing and dance. When his master passed away, He was 84, Cocko was never the same. h e flew up to Heaven about 6 months later.
They are not parakeets, they are cockatoos. And yes parakeets are consider budgies which is another name for them, parakeets are very small birds, parakeets and budgies are interchangeable you have the English bird and the American bird the English bird is on the larger size, their origin is from Australia.
Actually, budgies are parakeets. There are many birds that can be classified as parakeets including budgies, bourke's, lineolated, etc. Those are all parakeets. These are cockatoos. Not parakeets in any way.
.....not really. Budgies are budgies, not parakeets. The only thing i said was that a parakeet is a small bird with a long tail! Budgies are budgies, and a lot of people are reffering to them as the only parakeet in the world.Thats why i said that
i saw these birds at petco the other day raping one another

Also, cockatoos are not small birds with a long tail, they are rather huge and have quite stumpy tails for their size.
