  • A guy rising from the dead, a forbidden apple, the talking snake, burning 'witches' alive [Salem Witch Trials], the Earth only being 6,000 years old, the Inquisition and the Crusades... That's just an extremely short summary, I could go on about various holy wars, Galileo being excommunicated for being well.... RIGHT, as well as tons of other destructive things that religion has done, including human sacrafice, suicidal cults like Jonestown and the Waco Texas Ranch. But religion is good?! LOL!

  • most atheist are ex members of religions

athisism isnt a religion its like saying not smoking is a habit

  • i think Dr. Drew was lot better at subtly provoking adam into rage fuled rants. Were as the girl (sorry dont know her name) just backs him up, Drew would kind of egg him on.

  • i don't get why religious people get offended by atheists. like, if you don't believe in evolution, i'm not personally insulted by your stupidity, i realize you're an idiot and move on with my life.

  • 50 percent of people that consider to have a religion actually switch from one particular belief (ie from being catholic to lutheran) during their life time....so they 90 percent mentioned by carolla in the beginning is seemingly incorrect

  • @ryan4121 They're still Christian even if they go from Lutheran to Roman Catholic, and believe more or less the same stuff (the divinity of Jesus as the redeemer and whatnot).

  • Adam was talking about American Jews, not Israelis. And he was talking about the few overly serious ones, not the majority.

  • Wrong, the jews blow up a lot of shit.

    Like their neighbors.

  • hmm, Theresa never has anything funny to say. What a boring oversensitive woman.

  • The symantics bullshit that girl brought up is just a perfect example of someone wanting to appear as though they know something or can think CRITICALLY. It's so funny as a philosophy major/minor (deciding) to feel so bad for myself because I feel like I've underachieved. How is it that so many fucking DUMB people are in positions of prestige and admiration or fun?

It makes me feel like I'll never have a job I enjoy or be my own boss. Always on the treatmill and I'm not even done with college:(

  • @FavreianVengeance One of the problems with religion is that if gives people bad reasons for doing good things, when perfectly good reasons are available. I'm not sure how Atheists such as Adam are overbearing for simply having honest conversations about the way our world is. How could embracing & talking about reason and science ever be characterized as ridiculous within the same realm as miracles and suicide bombers?

  • @mrbunsen

Well put my friend, I enjoyed your comment.

  • @mrbunsen I do wonder how far ahead our civilization would be if there were no religion...We'd prob have a cure for death by now JUST for the stem cell research alone!!

  • @FavreianVengeance

wow, no thats the exact kind of argument that doesn't hold up.

    Look up SAM HARRIS.

He will explain why the term atheist should not even have to be used.

Why claim no belief in something when you don't even think it exists in the first place? It's like calling yourself a non-astrologer.

It's not an argument of chalking up the good and bad things and see if religion does more of either, ITS BECAUSE RELIGIOUS BELIEFS ARE INHERENTLY DOGMATIC. No matter the religion

  • @FavreianVengeance but their is no real good that comes out of religion

  • @KingofTheMafia

That's a crock of shit and you know it. I could give you points to defy you, but you know it's a crock of shit. I'm not going to bother explaining to you the good things that have come about from religion. If you want to be a bigot then you're going to be a bigot. Now if you argued that more bad than good has come from religion then I could see that. I'd still disagree, but at least that would be a logical argument.

  • @FavreianVengeance i stand by my position 100%, but ill re-word it. there is no real good that comes from religion that cant also be achieved by secular means..in other words, you dont need religion to provide religions "limited" benefits

  • @KingofTheMafia

That's just not true at all. I work in the public school system. They thought police everything, they don't allow for personal growth and they reward failure. Religion actually counters all that b.s. You may not feel like that we have access to the absolute truth, but bashing religion is not the answer.

  • @FavreianVengeance since when does religion reward personal growth? religion hates when people question, learn and when people are skeptic of it, all religion wants you to do is blindly believe in ancient fairy tales, and not question it, to me personal growth is exploring and discovering the world, question everything your told and not believe everything your told, and religion hates that

  • @KingofTheMafia

You've watched too many movies about corrupt thick headed know-it-all preachers or reading to much fthefanatics dot blog spot or something. Don't pretend to think you know the current state of religion or its historical relevance. N who says that a religious person can't explore? You think b/c a person has a value that they are close minded when you are the close minded person. And don't act like religious people don't question things. You characterize em as robots. It's sick.

  • @KingofTheMafia

You're a total fucktard. Stop characterizing religious people as mindless ignorant robots that don't experience the world. And stop acting like they don't have worthwhile values. You need to stop going to f the fanatic dot blogspot or pretending that the religious idiot on tv is somehow represntative of all religion. You're totally ignorant man. You use all of your preconcieved notions to box people into this big bag of shit when you're clearly the shithead.

  • @FavreianVengeance they are mindless robots, they dont have moral values, and most christians are as retarded as the tv preachers. christians are the ignorant ones, i was i mindless christian for 20 years, then my brain turned on, i have to say i am a way more open minded human being now, then i was before. and i never once called you a fucktard, this is one more reason i hate religion, hypocrites all of you, ever heard of treat others as you want to be treated? like most christians, you dont.

  • @KingofTheMafia

Don't buy yourself short. Your brain clearly never turned on.

  • @FavreianVengeance yes it dead, do yourself a favor, read the bible cover to cover, because you, like most christians have never read it, and if that doesnt make you an atheist, try reading the holy books of the thousands and thousands of religions in history, look at all the death and suffering in the world, for an all knowing and perfect god, he is a huge fuck up, you can look at the universe, watch some science documentaries. i hope you let your mind out of the cage of religion

  • @KingofTheMafia

    1. I've read the Bible cover to cover. 2. Getting rid of religion wouldn't get rid of war. The Romans and the Mongols were about as godless as it got and they were the most savage cultures in the world. Just b/c you read some shit about the Crusades and Inquisition or whatever and decided that religion is the root reason for all wars doesn't make it so.

    DUMB FUCK

  • @FavreianVengeance 1. the romans fallowed Hellenistic religions until about 400 C.E and Christianity after that...the mongols were believers in Tengriism 2. once again, a christian who treats people like shit and calls them offensive names...i could talk shit about you but i wont, because i am better than that...you need to grow up.

  • @KingofTheMafia

Grow the fuck up. Anyone can go wiki stupid shit. Trust me, the Mongols and Romans weren't religious zealots by any stretch of the imagination.

  • @FavreianVengeance Adam is right on.The negative aspects of organized religion vastly outweigh any "morality" they've inspired.

  • @mrbrianmccarthy

That's just bs. When I go to church, you know what they teach. Be nice, be selfless, be honest, be fair, be just, be helpful. In fact they call it the be attitude. You're just trying to justify your hate.

  • @FavreianVengeance Its not hate----Its exhaustion.I'm exhausted with religious nuts. I'm all for the things you mentioned here(Being honest,Being fair, being helpful etc.) What I object to in religion is the mind numbing doctrines(The virgin birth,Jesus dying and rising from the dead) that are forced onto people that have no basis in reality.

And BTW:WHY do you need to go somewhere and sit in a pew and have someone to tell you to be good? Arent you an adult?Havent you learned that yet? LOL

  • @mrbrianmccarthy Because you don't believe Jesus rose from the dead that makes them nuts? And who says church is just for adults to learn good behavior? People socialize there and teach their kids values.

  • Comment removed

  • weed is my religion

  • I was an athiest until I watched this video. I immediately realized that there IS a god and that god's name is Adam Carolla.

  • Arguing over atheism being a religion isn't relevant. At issue is the forlorn distinction between "certainty" and "knowledge." Theories of knowledge are predicated on persistent skepticism and the endless reassessment of what justifies human action. Knowledge does not terminate by reaching the status of certainty, as we eventually saw with Newton; certainty comes from revealed truth, which is where theology steps in to dictate natural laws as if they were somehow known prior to experience.

  • I'm an Abigfootist.

  • @sparky7718 I'm a loch ness monsterist.

  • lmfao

  • cathalocism really screws people up for life huh. almost all atheist were catholics at one time and i cant blaim them what a spiritually dead church filled with hypocracy. almost everything in catholocism is exactly opposite of what the bible actually tells us to do so in essence it isnt christian at all.the problem is once people figure this out they all of a sudden are intellectual and dismiss a God but if they were a hair smarter they would realize it isnt God thats a phony its their religion

  • @jackelprince1988 I used to be catholic I hated it, so I became Christian, and then I realized its all dumb so now I am atheist

  • if atheism is a religion then not collecting stamps is a hobby

  • @KolYma89 are you seriously that retarded. i swear the common theme with all religious people is that they have no fucking minds to think for themselves. They are essentially retards.

  • @zorakandbrac i think you misunderstood what I was saying, chump.

  • adam is one of the most intelligent humorists today

  • Teresa is an idiot sometimes

  • IM CATHOLIC N FROM WI GO PACK GO TO THE SUPER BOWL

    !!!

  • I'm an atheist because I know there is no higher ghostly power, but I still enjoy the idea of spiritualism in the way of individual beliefs. Like how people meditate to reach their 'inner-selves'. I know a lot of really angry atheists, but I've yet to meet any new-age hippies that wanted to complain about anything outside of how much tofu costs. Pretty chill people.

    Plus, they have great pot.

  • I never heard of the countless volumes being written on non-stamp collecting. Or having kids camps, bumper stickers, and conventions devoted to "non stamp collecting" Sorry the biggest myth about atheism is that it has no content.

  • @Keysteeze You're confused with semantics...That's the very point. All those volumes you speak of are written on religion itself and how it's nonsense. They aren't written on "Not-religion." Non-belief isn't itself a "belief." The term "atheism" IS devoid of content. There are no activities or tenants or set of beliefs that all atheists share. All christians are just as much atheists in respect to islam as atheists are with respect to islam.

  • @mrbunsen Atheism is an idea about the existence of God. As minimal as the content may be it still has to be considered as having content. Even Agnosticism has content. It is not nothing. A person who is nothing has no concept of God at all, positive, negative, or neutral. I suppose it could be that many atheist do not understand that atheism has no content and act as though it does. Like saying "I am going to raise my kids atheist"

  • @mrbunsen correct sir

  • @mrbunsen You might be better suited calling your "atheism" agnosticism instead. As an Atheist, I am convinced that the god referred to by any theistic religion I've come across because of certain logical contradictions and inconsistencies that preclude it from being the case. The kind of suspended belief you speak of is not Atheism.

  • @Keysteeze Nobody has ever killed anyone for not collecting the same kind of stamps they do, or tried to torture people into collecting stamps. That same can't be said for religion. So you'll pardon us if we take a bit of a stand against your little "hobby" that has been know to knock whole civilizations into thousand year periods of darkness on occasion.

  • I'm a vikings fan, the vikings are the one true team, i am glad that after what 16 years of being with the wrong team brett favre converted to the vikings and saved his soul . All of you packers fans are going to hell. CONVERT TO BE A VIKINGS FAN TO SAVE YOUR SOUL!

  • Religious affiliation is pretty arbitrary- THAT'S why I purposely believe in THOR the thunder God...

... i gotta be an individual.

  • I live in little rock, arkansas, a religion nut hick town, and went to college here my first year. I had to take a writing class my first semester in which we wrote essays and read them aloud. In one of the essays I mentioned that my dad is an Atheist, and everyone looked at me like a charity case. I said it casually but it came out as if I dropped the N word on Amateur night at the apolo, everyone was shocked. My dad's 50, with 2 Phd's and an MD, these retards have no business judging him.

  • remove this nonsense from your network..this is a morom talking on microphone..tell me tha im a lie, this guy adam corolla contribute nothing to everybody,he is a nonsense noisance..is there somebody wants to kill this guy,,,then go and do the right thing

  • @thedecagon you're reterded. lol

  • does adam have a radio show still? can you listen online somewhere?

  • he has a free podcast now... you can find it on itunes

  • how can being a nontheist be a theist lol

thats like saying that empty space is actually full

If i don't have a car, i dont have anything... i dont drive around my no-car.... the letters I type to express this don't actually exist anywhere.

  • Adam is right on the money here

  • so refreshingly honest! hes a cold splash of water to the superstitious religious

  • i fucking love Adam Carolla, he's so fucking smart

  • Adam's analogies are immaculate,

  • How hot was T before the baby mega boner

  • The shit I just took > God

  • @We4get1918 correct because your shit exists.

  • im just dumb and my parents were catholic so im catholic. LOL THATS ME! i am this person and i thought to myself once, am i catholic because i was raised that way? lol he hits it out of the park PERFECTLY

  • "...Hit the sauce every once in a while, and hit my face with the back of his hand every once in a while..." Haha! So true. And that guy on the phone is like, "You're going to hell!" Yeah, I'm sure Adam is shaking in his boots.

  • best shit i ever heard

  • We don't have a word for peole who don't believe in UFOs, or a word for people who don't believe in astrology or for people who don't believe in psychics. Why do we have a word for people who don't believe in god?

  • Its not a direct word, but neither do we have a direct reference for people who believe in UFO's. But the blanket reference for people who don't believe in any of those things you mentioned is skeptic. that could be applied to Athiest too, but the word exists as a sort of combative way of either defending or attacking a person who doesn't believe in God. If such a belief was as obscure or irrelevent in society as those that believe in UFO's, we probably wouldn't have needed the label.

  • Is that supposed to be some kind of argument?

  • No, just a question.

  • Good point. But aliens are real. And theyre gonna kill you.

  • adam, you awesome.

  • @Treytone1 You Illiterate! XD

  • This guy is funny as fuck. I love this.

  • UGH I'm so pissed that my mother forced me to learn Christianity! Damn it! I could have been learning something meaningful, I"m actually quite sad about it. If there are any parents watching this, do your kids a favor and don't teach them religion until they're 18.

  • same here. good thing i was curious when im 17 and started asking questions about religions.lol

  • I think to say your an athiest is JUST as silly as saying your a believer, since both claim a certainty. I just claim, i dont know

  • Adam Carolla is a gnostic atheist, so yeah, he claims to be certain. But the majority of atheists are not certain, they just don't have a belief in a god, and that's all an atheist is. A person who lacks a belief in gods or a god.

  • @Rshimy being atheist just means that we dont believe in what other religions believe. in fact, every person is atheist to most gods, real atheists just go one go further

  • Theresa is a babe

  • George Bernard Shaw said "It is no more to the point that a religious man is happier than an atheist than it is that a drunk man is happier than a sober one."

  • Another good one: Atheism is a religion the same way that bald is a hair color. :)

  • how would atheism be considered as a religion? you're just trying to sound cool.xD atleast state some reasons on why you consider it as a religion.

  • Adam is right, religious indoctrination is child abuse. Without religion we would be a intelligent, peaceful, rational nation.. instead with a religious majority we're a stupid, ignorant, crime-filled, weak-willed, superstitious, under-educated nation who will believe anything without evidence.

Bearing that in mind, plus the fact that there is NOTHING good a religious person can do that I can't as an atheist, how can anyone assert that religion is anything but a net-negative to humanity?

  • I think you're forgetting something important. All the bad stuff in religion was put there by humanity. I think a society without religion would be different, and possibly better in some ways, but I don't think there's any reason to assume it'd be a utopia. Don't give religion too much credit as an external entity handed down to us...no, it was made by humans, nastiness and all, and there's no reason to assume none of that "nastiness" wouldn't have showed up at some point even without religion.

  • All the bad stuff? Everything religious is created by humans, not just the evil shit.

And I agree, an atheist society is not utopia, cuz there's no such thing as utopia, and because atheism is a lack of religious delusion, not a denial of human nature (that's religion's job). Humans will always be greedy, selfish, envious, petty and sometimes completely stupid.

  • I didn't mean to single out just the bad stuff. I was just focusing on that because usually when people talk about this "atheist utopia" idea, they're focusing heavily on the "bad stuff" in religions. You're correct. The good and the bad in religion is put there by humans...ALL of it is, because human beings have formed it over millennia.

  • Gotcha. Keep up the good work chief.

  • Atheism is not a belief system. It's the rejection of other peoples' beliefs. If religious people's doctrines didn't exist, then neither would atheism. The term "atheist" should not even have to exist in the first place.

  • You are right, the term "atheist" is only used out of necesity. It won't tell anyone anything at all about me or anything I profess or fight for. Unfortunately, it DOES make a lot of people assume they know things about you. Unfounded things.

  • wow, thanks for this post.

  • GOD adam is a badass! he tells it like it is!

  • @NateDynamite he isnt all nice and compassionate to these idiots he indeed does tell it like it is!

  • no, atheism was not passed down to me, i got some hints from my dad when we talked about stone age, but thats about it.I figured it out by my self, using a brain that was 9 yrs old. Thats when i stared to question god. Like , dad where does god live.

  • I was raised by a pack of wild baptists-- My family were not dyed in the wool fundies, but I believed as a kid. I don't now because I paid attention in Sunday School, and actually THOUGHT about it.

  • ha! you just described my story...

  • I think most people who say they're believers either just haven't really examined what they claim to believe, or lack the intellectual honesty to stand up and say that the Emporer has no clothes.

  • And became horrified?

  • After thinking aboput the implications of christianity, you mean? Pretty much, though mostly I just realized how silly it was.

  • I don't think I would call raising a kid to believe in God to be child abuse except in extreme cases, but he makes a good point. Athiesm isn't really a dogma or belief like an organized religion. Closer to the belief of an agnostic with no real practice or rituals.

  • Atheism is not a belief system. People obsess about the abstract notion of believing stuff is or isn't true, and forget about what "belief system" really means. It isn't about having confidence in an answer to some question. It's about believing that a source of authority on that question exists and that you have access to that authority: a belief in one or more gods that have dominion over everything. Atheists don't have any of that. They may be confident, but they don't have an "authority".

  • what are you talking about? lets keep it simple here..you have to "believe" that we exist by one means or another. whether you are atheist or Christian you need to have a great deal of faith behind your explanation of our existence.

  • The word "believe" is too vague. There are two kinds of belief, as far as I can see: trust and faith. Trust is built up over time based on experience (facts/data); it can be broken/lost/betrayed. You lose and/or develop trust based upon your experiences. Faith is different. It's not based on anything external. People just decide they're going to believe in something because it fills some emotional need they have, and they justify it by calling it "faith" and demanding it be respected. Get it?

  • What if you admit that you might be wrong? Did that never occur to you? I have a conception of reality, but various bits of it are more or less open to revision. I used to believe that you had to drink 8-12 glasses of water a day to be healthy. I found out that was BS, so I dumped it, and now it's not part of my "belief system" anymore. I didn't have a lapse of faith, I just lost TRUST in the idea. It's that simple. I TRUST my concept of a godless universe, but I *could* be wrong!

    Couldn't you?

  • Last comment. Do the Jews actually not blow things up? Seriously? How 'bout Israel's excuse for seizure of territory and very serious, very accomplished acts of politically motivated violence.

  • Everyone just blames America and the UN for that.

  • It's so much more complex than that, but America and the UN are entirely complicit in Israel's actions. Hence, "everyone"'s blame is not entirely unjustified.

As an aside, I used to be a major US basher, still am in some respects, but, again, reality is so much harder to truly pin down than i can manage. So often, the bully, or the louse, or the vicious asshole is in fact responding to truth, and no more incorrect than the person he's participating with.

  • The hole has an annoyingly Jewish nose, but at least she has a pleasant rack.

  • I take that back about the nose. I think that's just a bad photo of her.

  • I hate the dumbasses who try to call atheism a religion. Is bald a hairstyle? Is naked an outfit??

    No idiots!

  • naked= birthday suit

bald= no hair...a style. ie hairstyle.. haha sorry I agree its not a religion..but that doesnt deserve 4 thumbs up.

  • You're right, it deserves more than 4!

  • @Sshelly34213 Arguably being bald is considered a hairstyle, and being naked can be construed as an outfit. They are both states of hair and of clothing, in this case, the absence of both...

  • @Mistermax30 I have ABSOLUTELY never heard anyone call bald a hairstyle or naked an outfit....

Atheism is not a religion, it is defined, literally, as a lack of belief in god and religion. So it can't be a religion because that would contradict its definition.

  • @Sshelly34213 Atheism might have its subtleties that we aren't aware of, like many religions do. Being bald is a hair cut in my view, because hair was literally cut to produce the final result, so technically, it is a hair style. Wearing no clothing can be a statement in itself, so again, being naked can also be considered an outfit...

  • @Mistermax30 By definition of the word...it really doesn't though. It's a lack of belief in gods and religion. Where you go from there is something completely different and unrelated to atheism. A=lack of, theist=belief in God.

So by definition of the word it is literally contradictory to call it a religion.Whatever your thoughts may be on baldness and nakedness, that is still the case for the definition of the word atheist.

  • @Sshelly34213 Better to ask if "bald" is a hair COLOR, rather than a style.

  • @GoblinXXX I don't think so, there is no "style" to being bald. You're just bald, the style is that there is no style.

Either way, the idea is the same. Atheism is as religious as bald is hairy.

  • @Sshelly34213 Firstly, the actual expression is "atheism is a religion if bald is a hair color", Secondly, I am bald because i shave my head-- Therefore, bald can, indeed, be a style. But no hair CANNOT have a color. It's just a better way to phrase it, that avoids stupid semantic arguments. Like this one.

  • @GoblinXXX Firstly it's actually both, I've only heard the hair style version of it personally.

It's not a style, it has no style whatsoever. You chose a LACK of style to be your style. Peach isn't a color? A shaved head can have color to it if you don't shave it completely with a razor and shaving cream.

I don't really don't think it matters, why get so ranty about this shit. Who cares? If you want to call it a style go ahead, I personally refer to it as a lack of hairstyle.

  • @GoblinXXX I'm a chick and don't know shit about shaving heads and really don't care.

  • @Sshelly34213 naked is ur birthday suit, bald is the vin diesel look

  • the bible is a facist book, all bibles are, and whatever there called for other religons, stupid facists did exsist in the past and they will in he future, humans are nuttjobs, natural selection made us that way, and people were arguing agaisnt religion just like this in the past, not just chritianity, others ones, i like carolla but what hes saying isnt going to change the fact that there are certain people that will be pron to believe this crap

  • so harsh soooo harsh. Adam dont you huff jenkem

  • its radio not TV,Einstein

  • It's The Adam Carolla Radio Show. He's NOT on T.V. What racist comments did he make? Why is the fact that he's not religious mean he's filled with unfounded hate? Is everyone who disagrees with you filled with hate?

  • He's an atheist.

  • dumbass, he was explaining a type of religious person,

he is atheist and his parents never went to church

  • dumbass, he was explaining a type of religious person,

he is atheist and his parents never went to church

  • Yeah yeah I read it on wikipedia shortly after my post. Dumbass??? Ouch. Believe it or not I'm big fan of the Aceman.

  • No. He was making an example, like the cheese head reference...

  • The bible is fucking bullshit.

  • I think he's Italian.

  • Did The Jewish guy tell Adam Carolla that he is going to hell??? is there a jewish hell too???

  • Yes. It's where there's never anything on sale. But the ham is free.

  • nice critical thinking.

  • Oh just one thing

I'm not against atheism, it's just that it's misunderstanded by lots of people and other religions too.

  • See, that's the whole point, atheism is NOT a religion. It's NOT it's own set of beliefs. People don't come together and practice atheism.

Atheism is simply not buying into any religion. "not having a team"

  • huh? what did you try to say?

  • Huh?

  • You are living proof there is no intelligent designer.

  • LOL!

  • if anyone's bored at work check out my nerdy fun blog poking fun at religion... the site's on my profile!

    cheers!

  • awesome, thanks for posting.
