@elecsa01 You can find ready made Laser harp controller from Prolight. I'm saving money for this one, as I already have laser projector from Laserworld CS-300g
Just great, 5th time watched! this year, what really like about your Jarre covers is your use of modern digital musical equipment to get THAT sound, vintage is good to.
@NinjaDuck1337 Thanks for your question. The laser harp is programmed in such a way that once it starts folding the beams together it stops sending sound on/sound off signals to the synth and enters a mode where it waits for the hand to be removed (or in this case moved down) as its cue to switch off the laser beam, letting me use my hands to control when the light goes out. :-)
I have also made a laser harp, which sounds as if it is a very similar design to yours. Sorry, no videos yet, but I have set up a blog and a Google open source software project: for anyone who is interested in building their own laser harp. Sorry, can't post URL here but just search Google Code for laserharp, and BlogSpot for laser-harp and you should find them.
Absolutely awesome. I am making my own harp - now that I have almost finished my RGB laser show. How many mW's is the 532 in your harp? looks great in the sunnies!
This is so brilliant- I had to blog about it - and check out Rune's excellent Radias Heaven synth library - I went out and bought a Radias after hearing it.
How do you keep the laser harp and the background track in time? There is very little tempo information in the backing track. (And I speak from experience on this one :-) )
@shobley Technically, a special MIDI control change is sent from the sequencer in the Korg M3 (which also does the backing track) to the computer to tell it to turn the "visual metronome" on (yellow or white - i use white for an extra "cue" the beat before some important notes are to be struck) and off depending on the value of the CC.
I hear the rumors say that you will actually be a stand in for Jarre in Oslo next weekend at "festningen 2010". True? ;) Well, maybe not, but if you got this on record together with your other genuine work I will sure buy it. One for my self and some for gifts to my friends. It would be much appreciated to have all your work on high quality media instead of having it through limited bandwidth wires... Voyager, Dream-catcher, Fairytale are all professional sounded masterwerch!
cool glasses u are wearing :-) and now, close your eyes and listen.... perhaps u wouldn't matter thats not the master himself ;-) uhm perhaps mr jarre is unavailable or prevented in one of his legendary concerts you could be able to substitiute him....
@Chicagoman2008 They are just normal workman's gloves that I got at the local hardware store. :-) The only thing I looked after was that they should be as white as possible to reflect laser light.
Yes, imagine what they could achieve if they got together and formed a band!! wow!!
I only liked Jarres Oxygene. One of my all time favs but not keen on the rest. Rune breaths new life into Jarres music, extending it etc without running it.
When I look at all the dros out there like X factor and other terrible music, how is someone like Rune not on stage??
@behzadbhandari The danger is if I place my eye in one of the beams - that would cause permanent damage to my eyesight.
The sunglasses might help a little bit in such an accident, but they are mainly there because it looks cool with the reflections. :-p With or without the glasses, I really really do not want to have a beam hitting my eyes.
The gloves do help the detection a little bit. It mostly works fine playing without them though. ;-)
This video left me speechless... Really damn awesome version with a touch of improvisaton on the original score :) Just one question... how in the Heck you made the laser harp ?? Gimme all the details ;) Just brilliant work, man.. utterly brilliant :D
I created the Laser Harp by combining an ILDA-compatible laser scanner, an USB->ILDA control box w/software interface, a mirror and a high-speed USB camera with my knowledge as a professional computer software developer and a homebuilt Laser Harp software running on my laptop. ;-)
@oufc29 All notes that are used throughout the melody are assigned to a beam each (and this changes during certain points in the song visualized by a dark "wave" through the harp - this is done to avoid having as much as 25-30 beams at the same time). This is the same way it's done on Jarre's harp, except his visualization of changing beams is a bit different.
So during each part of the song, my beams are the same notes as on Jarre's harp, with the lowest on the left and highest to the right.
This is fantastic! You have the laser harp sound spot on! Would have been funny at the end of the video if your mum walked in with a tray of biscuits and a cup of tea! ;-)
@synthetic24 Haha, I'm not sure people at his concert would be very pleased if some unknown dude played the Laser Harp instead of Jarre himself. ;-) Thanks for your nice words though!
Another thought ... a 2 octave laser harp controller, use blue or red lasers for the "black notes". Could be a very sound commercial product. If you want any help getting it financed, manufactured, and marketed, then send me an email via Korg Forums? Best regards, Rob

This is the same way it's done on Jarre's harp, except his visualization of changing beams is a bit different.
