  • Ah, so you do live in Oregon. If I ever run into I'll say hi. Ooh maybe I should start stalking you! I was born & raised here in Portland I know it well. Just by watching a few of your videos I can find out where exactly you are but I'm too lazy so I'm just gonna settle with watching your videos.

  • cool thanks!

  • I think the best thing to do is wait for a natural catastrophe....too soon?

  • hmm, at least a bagillion eh? sounds good

  • and now we want it :P

  • Whoo Portland :)

    Thanks for the tips!

  • look for airline tickets online at 2pm, 4pm, or midnight on weekdays, and 5pm on the weekends.

  • Thanks for the link for the website.

  • now i realy thinking about travel in Japan :) Thanks a lot ;)

  • lol the ending

  • We pay around 750 euros which is almost a 1000 dollars for a round trip from Europe T_T

  • you're awesome man! want to japan! never been there, any advice what's the best time of the year to go there?

  • i think some websites have there special offers during midnight. that when i booked mine. i live in guam but i am currently staying with my girlfriend in nagoya for 3 MONTHS! japan is great. anyways like i said. some websites offer midnight specials! mine was $565 round trip.

  • The end of this video. xD

  • hard to beat panda porn

' Hey Koichi, what's that knocking sound? ' " Oh it's nothing " ' Are you on that Nation Geographic site again? ' " No... "

  • The cheapest way to get airline tickets? Suck some d--k. It will cost you at least one blow per aeronautical mile roughly, give or take. That translates into 20 A.miles of shame for every pork sword you gobble......Oh ya, right, you could also work and save for it.

  • dood your from Portland????????!!!!!!!!

  • I'm liking this for the pouncing kitty action :D

  • I think I'm in love with you.

  • I already live here, but I just tell my parents how much I love them, and how much it'd be the best Christmas present ever to see their wonderful faces.

And then I end up overseas.

Gets me trips back to the US!

    Which isn't really useful. <_<

  • Panda Hat for the WIN

  • I got a ticket for $900 roundtrip, Ottawa to Narita, a couple years ago off itravel2000. I thought that was cheap! I will definitely sign up!

  • Where does you get your Pwnda hat!? cause i wants one!!! XD

  • I LOVE YOUR PANDA HAT!!!!!

  • I have a question, how much money should I bring with me to spend about four weeks in japan?

  • if you're looking to rent a car, WALK INTO a location of a company you're thinking about renting from (budget, avis, enterprise etc) and get a quote from where you want to pick up the car to where you want to drop off the car. yes, ANY car rental location should be able to do this. MAKE SURE to mention any club you're a part of. sam's, costco, aaa, even mention your insurance company! get printed quotes for EACH of these discounts.

  • @tabithascobra most companies print the discount codes on the quotes which you can then use on their online website to make sure you're getting the best price from that company. however, 99.9% of the time, THE FURTHER OUT YOU BOOK, THE BETTER THE PRICE!

  • @tabithascobra since most car companies don't require a credit card to book a car, i'd recommend reserving even if you don't know exact dates. then you'll have that lower price, and often, though not always, depending on the rate system, you can make adjustments later without too much change to the actual rate.

  • I paid about $1600 return from the east coast. (direct, no stops or layovers)

  • @spellbunny yeah thats my normal price... =(

  • You're hilarious. :D

  • ^^love ur humor! What about the Jrail ticket? Are you buying one? Are you going to stay in hotels? Are they any cheap accommodation possibilities, like staying with a family or smth like that? Can one get around in public transportation if he/she does not know any Japanese?

  • POUNCE!

  • I have always noticed your skin DOES look soft. lol. I wanna touch it. XD

  • God I love that Panada Hat! haha

    Thanks for the advice! ^_^

  • LOL $474 one way from Vancouver on air canada~~

  • @mogster666 that's one way, though.

  • LOL PANDA XD

  • Comment removed

  • I found a ticket for about $500 from SF to Narita no stops =D

  • @currentplague round trip?

  • @tofugu

    Yeah, it WAS.

  • loved the cat pouncing!! hahahahah

  • 2:42 is LOL XD

  • 2:42 LOLOLOL

  • is that $750 2 ways? cuz I have been looking at roughly $600 each way from Edmonton

  • @TommyBShow yep, $750 is round trip

  • @tofugu in that case that is one hell of a deal, I hope I can find somehting so cheap from here

  • around what time should you reserve a hotel room?

  • @nero2kewl sometime before you get to the hotel room! (depends on season and stuff)

  • can't get anything cheaper for my area (midwest). Have to make stops and pay extra :S. Went to japan 2 months ago 2400 for two people.

  • Hehe this video's 1-day late for me, booked tickets yesterday for 867 bucks, happy about it though, got enough money. :]

  • VERY simple question from me (learning Japanese and I know ZERO Kanji :( but only at the first semester of learning Japanese.) If you ever for some reason come to Tucson, Arizona Will you Give me a hug!?!?! ^v^ おねがいします!!!!!

  • Pedo Panda... Hehe :D

  • Man, my tickets where around $1,200. -__-

  • I'm going there too but in april next year. We got our tickets for about the same price as you but we are flying from Sweden =P

  • basically book way in advance, or very last minute

and by way in advance obviously atleast 6 months before

flying from central europe there are so big price ranges, its stupid

about from 350~1200euro I have found everything

    but yeah, patience

  • Are tickets cheaper if you live in Europe? :) Cause I live in The Netherlands and does it matter where you are going to in Japan? Like, is it more expensive to go to Tokyo then going to somewhere else? lol, I don't really travel a lot...but when you buy the tickets, you still need a place to stay in Japan and unless you only want to stay there withouth anything else you'll also need some extra money for things like food, so...pretty expensive :)

  • @deogrou

Booked tickets yesterday at KLM, and for me they were 855 euro cheapest. Of course depends on the time period you're flying in, but I'd say that the prices are about the same/slightly more expensive here. Especially since KLM is a monopolist in The Netherlands with their direct-Japan flights.

  • @Edonkey ok, I see, thank you so much :)

  • When is the best time [season] to go to japan?

  • Does the site work for (from) Sweden too?

  • LMAO Sooo cute with the panda hat !!

still cute.. even when he turns around with the paedo moustache

  • the ending was amazing.

  • 安いです!

  • Pedo-stache D:

  • good tip

  • Woot! Expensive plane tickets and groping/naked scanners courtesy of the TSA!

  • Please tell us where you got your panda hat from!!!!!

  • How many stops did you get? Ended up paying $2K for a round trip during the holidays, from Narita to DFW and back, one leg each way....

    I'll try your way next time. ^_^;

  • @nerdlass no stops :)

  • i loled at the end :D

  • i feel tired today,

  • That is the very same way I do it...but with out using Kayak. Being in the UK I tend to use Virgin Atlantic to fly to Japan. I keep an eye on their prices. I managed to get a ticket for £630 return on a direct flight. But a few days earlier it was over £700 and then a few weeks after I brought the ticket, it went up to being just over £700 again!

  • It's pretty much basic knowledge that anywhere you go is going to be relatively more expensive, so say you were going to Japan for about two weeks. How much money would get you by with no problems and a bit extra spending money? In other words, how much money is it a good idea to bring for such a trip?

Anyone can answer this, as long as it's a knowledgeable answer and they actually know what they're talking about. Kthx. XD

  • @CanDanceX3 depends on if you're staying in hostels, hotels, or something else. The lodging is the part with the most variance. I go for $1000 per week, but that might be a bit much.

  • EXPENSIVE AS SHIEEETT

  • The ending clip was awesome!

  • like that panda hat

  • 2:01 is the best!!!

  • 2 more comments actually:

    1. more and then even more section make me lol

    2. Why bother with a mouse pad? Is your table too glossy? I assume a striving minimalist like you doesn't need a mouse pad.

  • I've heard that getting from the airport to 'destination' can get pretty expensive... how are you planning to get to your 'destination' lol from Narita?

  • @Charmiagne7 I'm guessing he will get a 3 week Japan Rail pass and take any trains that JR runs for the longer and more expensive train journeys.

  • WOOH! Good deal and tip! Thanks Koichi!

Unfortunately, I would guess most people don't have quite the control over their free time that you do. Or NEETS like me...lol

  • You're from Portland?! Cooool! I'm from Seattle! :DDD

  • Did you go to PSU? I'm doing a Master's Program in Japanese at PSU right now!

  • KOICHI! where did you get that panda cap! PLEAASE tell us!

  • travel in offpeak seasons :) Im going to Taiwan in Feb for $1035Au singapore air winter season there. Hotels are often cheaper in this time to. Been to Japan twice already and the time I went offpeak for a month (1st time was peak time for 2 weeks) so traveling offpeak can mean you can stay longer! I also traveled to Malaysia and Singapore on offpeak season and they were considerable cheaper.

  • damn, $750?i look from time to time and it's always around a grand.i live in the southeast, but still.

  • 750?? Niiiice!

  • Don't lye u wear that hat all the time. Anywa I got some good info from this vlog thx bro. At lest ur not watching baby panada's.

  • How much time prior to your trip did you start searching? How many days before you ended up buying? What airline did you end up going with?

  • @taylornate2 had the alert going for about two months - got a ticket on Delta. Not my favorite airline, but I guess it could be worse-ish?

  • I got my ticket for 1300 but it also includes the hotel for 1 week (which by the way is a really nice hotel) so it was somehow an okay price. Omg im so excited to go to japan! Cant wait for january <3

  • lolol

  • Very Much! thanks you so much.

  • Stumptown rules. A new izakaya just opened on 9th and Salmon called Shigezo.

  • @SentientSoul241 ah yeah, i was just there for lunch. Not too bad.

  • do you live in portland oregen!

  • @tofugu ? u didnt write anything!

  • is it also better to go to japan with a group via tour groups? i was just wondering, maybe you can shed some light for me. please!!!!!

    thank you

  • nice mouse

i use the same its awesome

  • What about some of those flights where you change both: airlines and planes?

  • how much money do you need to go to japan an hang around for like 2 weeks ?

I mean like go to the cheapest hotels or even camping and that stuff

  • @sheldyk cheap if you do it right. Probably could average $25/night at hostels, and $15/day for food... that's pushing it pretty far, though.

  • OMG It's been like 30 videos since you've worn you're panda hat in a video. THANK YOU

  • @IzumiSojiro I wore it just for you, too, IzumiSojiro

  • Hey - quick question: where will you be staying? If it's in hotels, isn't it gonna be expansive?

  • @Keenan4life I have no idea where I'll be staying... Some of it will be at random people's apartments / houses... some of it will be hostels... some of it will be camping on benches (I hope not too much... just a little for entertainment sake)... 24 Hour Manga Cafe's sound good, too :)

  • im in the first 50 comments. i love tofugu, its amazing. i want it so baddd. i follow you religiously on here. your a really funny guy. keep it up you dirty panda (i want your hat too) have a great day :D

  • ... I hope that panda wasn't underage. :|

  • is it less expensive if I'm ready to spend a few days on a boat?

  • Lol that ending needed the 'dramatic look' groundhog's tune!

    So badly.

  • I think your going to be in Japan on my birthday. Sweet ! ^_^ I'll be thinking of yaooooooooooo ~

    That is useful

  • lol at the end

  • @MrKanojo most important- clean underwear.

  • @glasseyelashes o! ill be sure to remember that :D thx XP lol

  • @MrKanojo anytime ^^

  • could i join the Japanese foreign legion?

  • whats the best way to get some japanese poon tang

  • Meh had them at 925 at the time (for March 21st 2010) which was a pretty decent price back then. I used tripadvisor and it gives about the same service as kayak does.

  • the nightmare special made me laugh so hard! LOLz

  • Again that pedo's black caterpillar mustache...? XD awesome!

  • @yngwiefangirl08 yesssssss

  • LOL @ th end

  • I completely agree with being patient when searching for the best price. And of course to not limit your search to merely one site. I've researched the same ticket, same dates, from various travel sites, including the airline's own site. The price variation was incredible. The airline itself did not offer the cheapest option, although it was second best. Also, dates /do/ matter. I've booked my flight two days earlier than my originally intended date and saved roughly $500 AUD. Odd, I know <.<.

  • thanks for the tidbit.

  • I have a questionnn~

When you pounced on your cheapish tickets, were they for the dates you wanted, or did you just have to go with the ones they had to offer? I mean, when you do your price alert things, can you enter specific dates? Or are the plane tickets you bought good for a certain amount of time.. or what.

  • @EmoSupernova I was just waiting for a set of cheap dates that fit around my current schedule, this was them! Just happened to work out well, though I had several open options (including First 2/3 of Nov, First 2/3 of Dec, and then Feb)

  • @tofugu So you have to be a bit flexible for the process to be easier, i see..

    This video helped, thanks! :)

  • that's kinda awesome to know for traveling in general. I mean yay that it's a good way to get cheapish tickets to Japan... but really that can be used to get cheapish tickets anywhere. Sweet! I'm totally gonna try this method next time I travel

  • your computer looks sexy

  • The ending was so random.

  • I got a question for you Koichi.

    日本でホテルを予約したか

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • You should eat funezushi for the show.....you know you want to.....well...maybe not...but it will be entertaining....!!

  • Your from Oregon???

  • 2 videos? In one week?

    HOW DARE YOU?

  • @twistnturn44 oh I dare.

  • I had some luck this year piecing together my tickets individually by going directly to the airlines websites. Cathay Pacific had some good deals. Singapore/silk is usually a good way to go as well... But yeah, you just have to stay on top of things and keep checking back...

    Great panda man!!!

  • I've seen the commercials, I just never paid attention. All while thinking "Argh I hate searching through all of these sites to find the best prices!" Thank you for bringing this to my selective attention span.

  • I wish I could go at an odd time of the year instead of only in Summer when ticket prices are ridiculous.

  • LOL. the cat part make me laugh so hard!

    it was cute!:D

  • Oh man, i'm going to enjoy this TofuguTv stuff. :)

  • Love that ending ahaha looking for ward to tofugo tv

  • what does your intro mean?

  • @MeyouandAnson as far as i can tell, hes saying "hello everyone its koichi from tofugu" anyone know if im right??? :P

  • @MeyouandAnson It's not my intro, but he's saying something like "Hello everyone, Tofugu's Koichi here."

  • I like you panda hat and the drawing behind you. Thanks for the video it was very interesting.

  • do you know of any good, cheap study abroad programs in japan? please help me out here!

  • @eye0see0ghosts Sorry, not really :( So many varying ones, and I don't even know about them :( Maybe someone here can help? (hint hint, someone)

  • lol go on google maps, click on get directions and put in the first box: Japan and in the second box: USA.... look at number 27 and then compare it to the tittle or the company that Koichi loves

  • @Sim1114 lol

  • Daaammnnn....

With 700 I'd be sorted for the year's food shopping.

  • Cool, thanks for the information :D

  • OMG!! I was just about to sleep and then I saw the omake!! O.O"
