Uh, when Gohan powered up there at the end, why was he normal but his aura yellow like a ssj before he went ssj2? Why wasn't he an ssj first?

It always seemed strange that Gohan, as the newest ssj was the first to reach ssj2. I just realized a hypocrisy of Goku's. He stays dead after the Cell saga in hopes that Earth will be in peace but then he keeps Fat Buu alive saying that if it causes trouble, they'll just fight--exactly why he should have been wished back, if he did attract villains, then they would just beat them.

These training sessions are essentially real battles or so they seem anyway. How do they keep from killing each other? lol Does Gohan ever become ssj 2nd or 3rd grade? I just assumed not because those were already discovered not to be their goal. It's been so long since I watched DBZ and I never watched the Android or Cell sagas. Maybe I just should. 3:45 is pretty sweet--I'd never seen it before.
