  • I liked the part when they discuss technical aspects of both frameworks... oh wait.

  • vote for Django here!

  • What? cue232s1 is right, this is humor, not deep characteristics about programming languages. Some people try to get knowledge of some strange places, get off that chair and go to books, anti-social nerd

  • ruby, a marketing campaign with a programming language :P

  • Hello I'm Scalability and i dont fit in the video :(

  • Do not drink and drive! :D

  • D.R.Y. like ya mamma! haha

  • I find it funny how he calls Django "DaJango" when in reality its just pronounced "jango" geez... some people... PYTHON FTW!

  • wow, you commentors are a bunch anti-social nerds. seriously, these videos are comical, and they seemed to serve and event based purpose when they were released in 2007. Get a sense of humor. If you are looking to these videos for some sort of edification, you are probably in the wrong place. please, stop trolling and hating on other people's creative manifestations. They are just for fun!

  • mmmm.... i've kinda followed this guys videos (cause of catchy titles) and have found others to be not quite revealing....

but this one is off the record... no real information on differences or streghts of one over the other whatsoever....

  • "D" is silent in DJANGO!

  • Comment removed

  • I think they've confused the DJ with the MC.

  • typically i would side with the "mac" guy... but these commercials make me happy i never got into ruby on rails. almost as happy by the sheer fact that i never got into flash :)

  • Since when was CGI a programming language?

  • @tabor9600 He might mean "Common Gateway Interface" aka CGI : )? Then again, probably not because this video is retarded..

  • @juhanikarlsson I was talking about Common Gateway Interface which *it not* a programming language (it is an interface specification).

  • @tabor9600 Ok, then we agree. : ) I tought you were thinkin about CGI aka "Computer-generated imagery"

  • Is this an ad for rails? I just makes me want to try Django.

  • It's pronounced "Jango", the 'D' is silent.

  • @KapnKregg Right, Rails and Django are Frameworks, but CGI is even LESS anything comparable to that... It's a goddamn interface

  • I am surprised of how many negative votes this video has. You must admin that the first part of "DJ Ango" is rather fun :P

  • @StockBreak2 hehe ya...definitely enjoyed that part :)

  • Also CGI isn't even a programming language.

  • Comment removed

  • I tried to access railsenvy but the page only contained a few links (look in the sourcecode)

  • That was funny. Except the parts with the Macs. I don't give a shit about TextMate, and I think scite is better anyways. Why the fuck would you program on a Mac? You can't even maximize a window to full screen. I would rather write code on my PC any fucking day of the week. Mac lame, Ruby cool. WORD to your muthers!

  • @midarkmind

"Why the fuck would you program on a Mac? You can't even maximize a window to full screen."

I assume you mean the OS but still, what the heck are you talking about?

  • @midarkmind "If at all possible, we suggest that you install a Linux virtual machine and use that for Rails development, instead of using Windows." Taken straight from the Rails guide.

  • it looks more like "and" than "vs".

  • I'm PHP programmer but truly no offense. I love all these ads. LOLx really wow stuff. :D

  • This video is not even remotely funny

  • get a life

  • hard decision...

  • Lol! WTF?

  • Duh-jango? That's not how you say it, man.

  • Projection much on the part of Rails?

  • If I didn't know better, I would still go with Django after watching this.

  • best one of these series

  • i think this is saying that Python and Ruby are exactly the same... in almost every way. (seriously... they're the exact same languages... i'd swear it)

  • @cuboos Yeh right.

  • was that their way of saying they play nice together lol

  • What is the point of this? It makes no sense. And CGI is not a programming language.

  • rails sucks, django all the way :) eat that torment3d

  • Comment removed

  • Lol, this video is funny. What I get from it is that both Django and RoR are respected and similar in many ways, but different in their approach.

God dammmmm.....how the hell did you comment so fast torment3d?! lmao

Now that's not fair torment, you're being mean! Python isn't too far off from writing English, yet you're getting the power of a general purpose programming language. Of course it has a few flaws, but it was carefully designed and trades complexity for clarity. Python is not ugly!

  • This video is pathetic.

  • actuall, Django uses MTV, not MVC

  • @Iamthemaster2 MTV is MVC just with different names, they are the same exact thing.

  • see how ruby cant bash django..... thats cause python is just as pwn as ruby

  • Awesome video! I personally use Django, as I can see that booze drinking guy there me. :) I guess the point of the video is that Django and RoR are very similar, besides the underlying language. I tried Ruby, but enjoyed programming in Python more. I preferred it syntax over the syntax of Ruby.

  • so what was the point of this video then?

  • So what was the effing point of this then?

  • I don't get how this gives any sort of argument for one language to be obsolete to the other. There were no insults given or points brought up about the pro's and con's of RoR over Django. I didn't understand this video...

  • Comment removed

  • Make a django vs zope video please.

  • PYTHON FTW!

  • @hheintze1 print ("FUK YEAHHHHH")

  • duh jango. hahahaha.

  • Why don't they make a video with Zed Shaw in it fighting with some Rails developers. I'd pay to see that.

  • Lol at the video meant to attack django, and the comments full of people defending it. Django is great (Its my weapon of choice) , but this is just a silly troll.

  • It is pronounced "Jango", not "Da-jango". The D is silent.

  • I love Django.

  • Well at least they didn't say it was better...

  • @Novusium becouse it is not.

  • It is imperative that one demonstrate proper respect for the homies by upending their alcoholic beverage container such that its contents are released onto the ground rather than into a sink or other bowl-shaped fixture.

  • so django isn't that cool, it's a bit pretensious, but it's a damn sight cooler than ruby on rails, ruby bunch o nerds are licking python balls like ooh it's so funky?

  • poor shitty guys no one seems to like any of your video.

Why don't you have a break and figure how to help developers solve their problems instead spending your time in this poor religious battles??

Is programming really have to do with hate from one language or another? Whats the scope of all this? get things done or fucking (videotrolling) with others?

    Please think of it.

  • @aghvideo I dunno, even as a python guy I think they're at least a little funny. All in good fun... no need to be offended.

  • I think it makes sense that python and ruby get along.

  • Django is better, just use it and see

  • Anyone else miss the part where they explain why Rails would be better?

  • @falkflyer That's because Python does everything. Ever.

  • Except Django scales... Like a snake...

  • @nitai86 that is a list of programmers, not scientists. I had an internship with NASA this summer and the only languages used were MATLAB and Fortran, with the occasional C.

  • It's Python, like Monty Python. Not python, like the snake. Of course they know this and of course they just used it to piss Pythonistas off =P

  • @AshmosesIII so do you change your python icons b/c its a snake.....

  • Actually in the docs of python they say its based off of monty python's circus.

  • Apple fans use Rails. Django is just better, faster, and easier. That's why the creator of Mongrel, Zed Shaw, switched to it.

  • @helixcipher Both are nice, but I switched to rails for the following reasons: I'm tired of the python programmers that break the PEP8, this is the reason that I don't like Python, about Django, it don't support DB connections pools and don't intend to (said by core developers), so no, I don't wan't to lose 50ms at each request to connect to my database, and the last big issue, it's hard to profile, there is no good profiling tools like ruby (terminal profiling, prod profiling with Newrelic RPM)

  • @helixcipher i am an apple fan but i use rails because of ruby :)

  • Fortran is an obsolete programming language? are you kidding me? It is probably the 2nd most used language in the science world, 1st if you dont count MATLAB.

  • @pjb0515 pure nonsense. check out the TIOBE index

  • I prefer Django but Ruby on Rails is not too bad

  • Django doesn't use MVC by default... Word!

  • word...

  • you suck..........

  • LOL

  • hahhaahk, i'm lovin this one

  • One annoying thing about Rails is that most of the people using it actually have very little understanding of the underlying language. Ruby isn't really used in the West, but there's still people who elect to use a framework in a language they don't know simply because it's in vogue.

  • Nothing solid to attack Django on so why not just present Django as someone your average web developer wouldn't like. Maybe next a video where Rails curb stomps someone thereby removing all doubt that Rails is in-fact better.

  • BASIC!

  • Actually swapping these two characters would make more sense.

Rails is trying to be "cool", while Django is cleaner.

  • @piqantique Django is built on python and so by default is one of the messiest syntactical solutions on the market. That's not to say its crap, I really like Django, but syntax-wise, because of Ruby - rails shits all over it.

  • @torment3d For every Ruby fanboy, there is a Python fanboy! Let's get it on! xD

I work with JS and PHP, but Python in terms of a language is my favorite. It's syntax and capability plus it's library is pretty awesome. I think it's syntax is easily superior to C styled languages, imo. =P

  • @Ravenex2 haha, aesthetically speaking? I think Python is probably the ugliest language ever :P

  • @Ravenex2 agree :D

  • @piqantique in no way django is cleaner than rails, dude

  • there isn't anything on their web page

  • django is the future! fuck all other languages!

  • @pfunk420d Fuck all other frameworks, sir.

  • @cgofme python rules as the language and django as the framework!!!!!!!

  • I love how this video isn't just militantly pro-Rails, anti-Django! Both of the characters are very likable. Very lighthearted and refreshing.

    Nice work.

  • Yes, the "D" is silent in Django.

And "CGI" is not a programming language.

    Entertaining nevertheless. :)

  • The Rails guy is a complete square. The Django guy is cool. What does that say?

  • @kriskhaira pretty much absolutely nothing.

  • DJ-Angooooo is awesome!!!!

  • CGI - an obsolete programming languange...?

  • @knivmakkara You write CGI? LOL.

  • @RommelTJ No, they refer to CGI as an obsolete programming language. If you don't know that CGI isn't a programming language then you don't know much.

  • @knivmakkara HAHA You write CGI

  • This video makes my laugh! Not sure why, though.

I never used Ruby, but I damn like python.

  • crap video

  • maybe if you could pronounce it right? please?

  • well this doesn't look like a diss to me :)

  • I tried RoR and its alright, not had a bash at Django yet - but these envy videos make me sick - I have a feeling that Django is better than RoR, hence why they had nothing bad to say about it...

  • The pronounce is only Jango, the D is silence.

  • I would party with DJ Ango! He's DRY like your mama, lol.

  • seems like Rails became Django's friend in this video and if this video was supposed to make someone like Rails more than Django then it failed since it did not provide any real reasons. The closest reason was the whole DRY part. I don't know Django but it seems like in this video Rails Envy is trying to say that Django does not care for or employ DRY practices. Is this true?

  • anyone who wasn't completely stupid /obtuse would interpret this joke commercial as saying that ROR actually has a deal of respect for django, compared to the other frameworks theyre up against, as they are both have similar principles /philosophies.

  • @ccaaeeiioouuss Django was originall designed for news-oriented websites, so its components emphasize integration, reusability, and speed. Thus, Django employs DRY practices from the start.

Take this with a grain of salt, since I'm a college student and I've never tried Rails, but I love Django. It's DJ-Angoooo!

  • ROFL

  • Django is better than ROR

  • lol xD but i love django

  • I'm unable to judge which is better. Django or ruby on rails.

  • from what i lernt (loads of people are prob gunna smite me for this)

    Django = more powerfull

Ruby on rails = quick, simple, easy and amazingly fast when you switch to dev mode to turn on the cacheing. (I think it does any way :~

  • OK, so, I get the Rails, and I get the Django... but where's the versing?

  • HHAHAHAHAHA

  • Clearly you've never programmed anything, RACOS666.

  • I'm prefer Perl than Python

  • Well, although perl and python are good, i like how you dont have to type as much punctuation in python.

  • RoR just got served by Merb back in December tho...so is Rails envious of Merb now, so much so that Merb is becoming Rails, like this week?

  • i never new cgi was a language?..

  • they should have named the python framework "a plan"

    python on a plane

    how awesome would that be!

  • uhm, representing a framework named after jazz muscian with a hip hoper is kinda ... off.

  • Don't you think that you guys exaggerate the RoR. Even though I think RoR is great too.

  • .that everything transparent simply doesnt exist..but u see 8 years ago we didnt have wordpress to publish an interactive site in 3 mins..

  • wisely spoken!show some respect and dont be ignorant twats..every technology built has a reason (except Coldfusion framework which is crap)Without CGI-PERL the web wouldnt be as it's today..i still find ruby on rails GENIUS and its very hand to build web apps;remember myself writing perl scripts at uni to create web forms for sites through CGI... but hey we r in the new era of web2.0 morrons

  • Python >>> Ruby

    Rails > Django

  • Very funny stuff!

    -An old developer

  • Apple juice :D

  • Or urine. ;p

  • Let's hope not :)

  • this is a change from all the other adds, (apple) copies

  • this video is soooooooo gay.

  • CGI isn't a language, it's a protocol.

  • Yeah...I remember back when people used to want to learn "CGI"..unfortunately, 90% of people who aren't developers -still- don't know CGI != PERL.

  • LOLOL.. my favorite commercial of them all!!

Django - RoR - Cake ... all MVC Frameworks for there respective languages, all really awesome. Use which ever makes you happy.

  • Obviously you haven't seen mod_perl in action. As for Python, half the plugins that are used in Hollywood FX studios and movies are written in Py, not to mention that Google is using it 24/7 so STFU. Ignorant n00bs. The entire web was build upon these technologies and just because they're transparent doesnt mean they are not there, but because you dont have to worry about them once they're built unlike some web 2.0 crap.

  • Java and Ruby is for dumb people.

Perl is specificaly designed for smart people.

Its not cool to call cgi obsolete just because it is only meant for smart people. Don't worry guys. Dumb people can still make attempts. Its called FastCGI and catalyst. Oh and Perl and Python are friends, 10 minutes after this video Perl, Python and PHP jacked Ruby and stole all his regular expressions. BOO YA!

  • Perl is obsolete.

  • I disagree. Fast CGI and Catalyst. A small script that honestly, its just crtl-c then crtl-v then, boom its all secure, wow big deal, same as any other language, you do have to do some manual securing. Even with RoR.Catalyst can go just as good with ajax, and building it into your web apps. Plus, web graphics? High Scale design? Perl has that covered with a wide variety of graphics modules and it can be hooked into silverlight with moonlight, a free server, Boo-Yaa.

  • However if you want to see something really cool on the Ruby end go to the w3c place and check out the design ideas coming into the next version of XHTML. Ruby will play a key role in the developement by integrating it into the design of xhtml 2.0. kick ass stuff.

  • CGI is obsolete???? FastCGI, .pl, catalyst. Plus in order to make cgi secure, it takes like what, 4 lines of code? A small cgi program is quick, a large cgi program is slow, like any other language. Perl and CGI have barely even started, its just silly to call them obsolete.

  • Rails and Python are friends xD

  • you guys are the coolest people ever. :D

  • Is your 15 minutes over?

  • hahaha i am ruby head's python

  • ruby's ok but python rules :)

  • Fortran is still being used by engineering students like me, its not dead yet!

  • What about COBOL? I mean, it still is the main thingy on Mainframes (and whoever tells me that mainframes are obsolete, has no clue whatsoever).

  • But, what did that tell us? RoR is a traditional geeky dork, and Python is a different type of dork?

They're both MVC, etc... I thought these were supposed to make me understand why Rails is better?

  • I think they didn't even try to make RoR seem better than Django.

  • oh no they spilt their apple juice...

  • First of all they pronounce Django incorrectly.

Second of all, I guess Django is better than Ruby on Rails, because it's python based. You can use python for pretty much everything. That is, if you learn Django, you can use python for making your standalone applications, creating system scripts, etc.

  • If you learn Rails, you can learn Ruby for making your standalone applications, creating system scripts, etc.

    :)

  • You're right, but Ruby to python is like c# to Java. There are way more demands for python in the market.
