Elizabeth Hubbard is without a doubt one of the true legends of US Soaps. She was one of the first Actresses to play a Doctor in the 1970's on a show called "The Doctors" where she played Dr. Althea Gibson where she was the first Actress to Win a Daytime Emmy, the Industry's Highest Honor for US TV. I wish more US Soap Actors/Actresses would do this sort of a thing. Hey do they still show Guiding Light and As The World Turns On European TV?
So, okay, I think I'm kind of in Love with Dex now - but only when he speaks English. It's so freakin' adorable!!!! (On a second note - I had no idea all this 'I'm-not-gay' talk was going on with Dex!) (On a third note, EH is wonderful!)
I like Elizabeth Hubbard. She's the only one who can act on atwt (I'm not a fan of that show..), but I have to agree that these dialogues are a bit embarrassing.. Let's hope Lucas will have an interesting storyline, possibly not with Dex, 'cause I'm tired of coming out s/l by "straight" guys I've seen a lot of those recently.. I'll stick around for the moment ;-)
I wonder when and how Lucas and Dex will fall in love? Lucas is sort of a player who's not for settling down with one guy, while Dex is so touchy and insecure right now. They are not exactly a perfect match at this stage in their lives, although the attraction is there.
I do feel sorry for Dex with all the teasing from his own family like he's a little boy who doesn't know what he wants. One thing Lucas can teach Dex is self-confidence.
Also I think the whole point is that Sair is overbearing and opinionated and doesn't necessarily know what she's talking about. She's just kind of bursting into their lives with lots of opinions (good or bad) and voicing all over the place.
I don't think she's a bigot at all, I think she's just stereotypically straight.
Plus, gay men mock other gay men for not being "manly" enough or to "effeminate" all the time and what Sair is saying is what a lot of straight women think about men.
Sair has no reason to believe he is or isn't gay accept that his family has been teasing him and she hasn't seen in him forever so he could easily be gay and in denial. She was trying to be supportive not homophobic
The way Dex is over-reacting to Lucas would make family suspicious and she was teasing him.
Sair is of a different generation and she's trying to help her grandson feel confident and get the girl he wants but she's like 70 so she's going to have some old-fashioned ideas about it.
it's so strange seeing luke's granmother in this show! but i love it :)
Elizabeth Hubbard is a great actress IMO!
And Dex sounds so hot when he speaks English.. i felt like that needed to be said lol.
me thinks Dex is trying to hard to convince everyone he's not gay.... I do think they need to back off him a little bit though, the poor guy needs a break!
it's so stupid that they have elizabeth's character say Dex is gay simply because he looked at this reflection in the oven window,,,, absolutely moronic and pathetic. And her character is talking about masculine men versus effeminate gay men as if that defines all gay people.... very stereotypical... Nice going dutch bigots that qualify for writers in that country
A lot of scenes have gone on before these scenes happened which eventually led up to the family thinking he was gay. Now, the first thing Elizabeth's character heard about Dex was that he was gay, so as far as she knows, Dex was gay prior to these scenes. It's not just due to him looking at his reflection, it has a (slightly) longer reason for people thinking his is gay.
I love EH

Elizabeth Hubbard said PUSSY. I love it! Lucinda could call half the men in Oakdale by that word.

You're right about gay men mocking other gay men for not being manly enough or being effeminate.
Most gay men are after the straight8 type.
