  • motu ultralite MK3 is a big big shit.

  • Just an update for anyone interested... the screen flickering has stopped the other day. So now the screen works fine out of the blue. Weird huh!

The other problems seem to stem around Windows & the WDM drivers etc. Basically if you use the Ultralite as an ASIO only device in your DAW your shouldnt have any problems.

  • Sure its not your camera lol jk jk

    -HyPe

  • yupp..will see thru that that too :)

  • thanks robdrums and studiov2 for ur help...i might be buying this particular MOTU soon. now i already know the knowhows,..could very much save me my time and money in the future...appreciated ur comments!

  • Just make sure you have a TI or Lucent based Firewire card in your PC or Mac and you should be fine. FYI i think they recently changed from TI to something else in Macs (in the last 6~ months)

  • This is happening to me right now. What was the solution?

  • I know this is very silly, but have you tried contacting Motu's service department? Of course they won't be able to help you, after all they only designed the stuff...

    :-)

  • ive read up and these problems usually require the unit to be sent to motu. i'm Australia and MOTU are in USA and I wouldnt be able to afford the studio downtime.

  • wow well i have MacBook pro and my shit Motu ULTRALITLE

clicking and shitcking fucking all time like on this video

  • This is caused by Windows audio drivers being accessed while your using the motu on windows. I know , I've been dealing with the same issue.

    I can prove it. I'm a tech.

    Shut computer down.

    Turn on MOTU by itself.

    Boot up your computer.

Watch when windows loads it's audio drivers, you'll see the levels start bouncing and crackling. It's windows, that's causing the issue. WDM driver issue, I think.

I own the motu and trouble shooted this same prolem. So, I've saved you some time :)

  • Ok so dont use the WDM drivers at all? What do i do to hear normal system sounds? I have to resort to extra speakers?

  • Yeah ok. It's not allll the time though but yeah maybe I should install an extra card. Cheers

  • im pretty new to all of this

i understand what the imputs are for but what about the outputs?

  • For example you could run 2 sets of speakers, possibly even 5.1 surround setup depending on how you set it up...

Or you could run an output from a virtual instrument or sample etc into an external effects processor and then run that back into an input and record it that way.

  • have to agree with the mac thing tho, simple the best!

  • OK, your using a PC? Motu are known for their stable products if your using a MAC, but ive heard of problems using a PC with them. Maybe re-install the drivers for the unit, thats mite help. Also the Motu website has support, contact them, as its only a year and half old.Ive mine with a Macbook Pro and has been 100% for a while now. I used to have an 828 MK2 firewire, but down graded for portablility reasons.

Could be drivers, do a fresh install. Also are you running the latest firmware?

  • Yeah latest firmware/drivers etc.

Im pretty sure its a problem with my firewire card in my pc. I recently got a macbook and the ultralite works amazing with a mac. Fuck PC's im moving to Mac permanently soon hehe.

  • why does it work perfect with a mac? cause there are no windows audio drivers to mess with the motu. that's why :) lol

    Told ya ! :) lol

  • are you running it just bus powered? or mains as well?

  • I believe this is currently bus powered but I'm pretty sure it does this when mains powered too. I've just plugged it in now to double check though and ill let you know. It appears a bit better at this stage.

In any case I still get problems with a very infrequent sound drop outs. Also if I open certain apps on my PC (media player classic for example) i get a high pitched glitch sound through all output channels for half a second at startup. weird huh. maybe they are just motu quirks?

  • Ok yeah it does it Bus Powered AND Mains Powered.

  • reinstall the Motu drivers again for your operating system and if you can disable the wdm audio driver or reinstall it. It's a driver issue, trust me, I know.

    Rob

Your motu is not dieing... trust me

  • Mmmm... MSTRKRFT!

    Quirky random obscure equipment. *jokes*

  • It's not obscure though. It's a well reccomended and expensive piece of equipment. Bought new about 15 months ago for $1000AUD... now its doing this weird flickering shit. Also halting for half a second intermittently. Weird.
