That guy will get his ass kicked from his superiors. He violated one of the most important rules of the Air Force in front of millions. I would gave him an earful as soon as that plane landed. Goddamn, the son of a bitch has balls.
@kb3glo While the Marine's do fly the Hornet, the aircraft is based off of the YF-17 which was a prototype designed for the United States Air Force's Lightweight Fighter program. It lost to the YF-16. It was then entered into the Naval Fighter Attack Experimental program and eventually transformed into the F/A-18 for the Navy and Marine Corp.
Tremendous fly-by. Certainly will get a NATOPS violation for flat-hatting, but I am please to see there are still Naval Aviators out there. Flying for airlines is over rated. Hopefully this guy left the Marine Corps at his terminal rank of Major and went on to an illustrious career in Gynecology. Semper Fi. Yo Yo!!
Typical naval aviator. "Screw the rules! I want to look cool." They all want to be Maverick.
"Let's welcome major FAA violation." I hope that asswipe doesn't want to ever fly for an airline. He'll have a tough time with that violation on his record.
I was on the field for this game....talk about getting pumped to play against TCU. Looked over at LaDanian Tomlinson and I think he pissed his pants...
I was there..I'm a naval Aviator and current commercial guy...we were on the second tier on the east side...the reason the shots look different is that they are from two different cameras. One is one the field..the other on the roof of the second tier on the west side. He came is relatively slow..you can see the slats are down and the flaps are cracked to get it around from the east..usually the flyby's come straight from the south..no turns..he surprised EVERYONE by coming from the east
The first shot is very deceptive. In this video it looks like the F-18 barely cleared the flag and then pulled up, when in reality it came in high and left low.
they probly grounded him for a month or two... technically the only rule he broke was flying low over a public event.. which is why at airshows they have the flightline. but then again the thunderbirds / blue angels fly low over my house when they do airshows.. so this guy might have only gotten like 2 weeks to a month.. atleast thats my geuss

Damn that was a low pass, That Major definatly had a brass pair....lol, and to all those who have said that the hornet is just a Navy plane, the Marines do fly them as well, so do alot of other countries. The Navy still flies this version, just not as much anymore due to the Super Hornet. Wow what an awesome pilot.
Everyone who says this is fake is fucking retarded. It's real, the guy was a Marine pilot and he lost his wings for it but he got them back after 9/11 and he deployed to Afghanistan. His hook is down because that's what the Navy and Marine Corps does during flyovers! Watch some other Navy/Corps flyover videos!
in case anyone was wondering. It wasnt fake, i was at the game with my dad, looking to go to the academy. It was an f-18, but being flown by a marine major. We have marine pilots fly over our stadium just as often as navy pilots. Just so everyone knows and can stop arguing
@Fuzzy6405yahoocom I think they lost their wings for this.....Then the more recent flyover with the 4 T-38C's from Vance AFB, they too got reamed for a low pass....I think the lead in the 4 ship lost his wings....
@avionicswirenut The Story I heard was he got his wings stripped, but they gave them back 2 months later after the September 11th attack. He deployed to Afghanistan.
@Prfactist Either way, none of them deserve severe punisment..Yea maybe a good butt kick, but nothing beyond that...All of these guys, pilots or ground troops deserve respect, even when they do something a bit over the top, as long as no one gets hurt......My father flew 100 missions into North Korea during that war...On one mission his F-84E took a direct hit from triple AAA ground fire...He was awarded the flying cross for his continued attack on a target with his plane damaged...
IT IS NOT REAL, that is a video of a US NAVY F-18 Hornet from an airshow that was added to a pan of a football stadium. if a pilot did that st a real game, he would lose his job and probably go to jail. way to dagerous, way to low!!!
@nastasepatrucase No, They do that over here on the East Coast in Savannah, GA. of all places. Right up the road is Beaufort MCAS, South Carolina. There is a Wing of F-18's there and AV8B Harriers that will pit stop at Sav International airport. There is also a wing of F-16's from Charlston. They always stop here when they do their ops over the Atlantic Ocean. But, they get crazy like this video, LOL, flying crazy "Ballz To The Wall" approaches & crap like that, But AWESOME to watch 'em!
This video is 100% real. I was at that football game. I've got to say after watching the video it seemed lower in person. The pilot forgot that when you go knife edge the lift created by your wings is no longer in the opposite direction of gravity. It's one of the coolest fly-by's I've seen (till doing my own that is).
This video is 100% real. I was at that football game. I've got to say after watching the video it seemed lower in person. The pilot forgot that when you go knife edge the lift created by your wings is no longer in the opposite direction of gravity.
I was at this game, as a member of the Navy FB Team, and I can assure you it's 100% real. I was also an aspiring aviator at the time so couldn't wait until our class on Monday for our aviation practicum professor give us all of the details. It is true the pilot was "grounded" for a bit as described by Dport1231 in the Top Comments. It didn't help our cause on the field as we lost to TCU that day, but it certainly was "felt" by each person and the best flyby I've ever witnessed.
All this stupid talk about this vid being real or not......I can tell that it's real because I can see an F-18 pilot doing such maneuvers as this. They fly around over here all the time like that, doing a "Carrier Break" , then flying a dogleg approach right the frikin heck over Wal-Mart at only 3 or 400 feet in a tight turn, as they constantly thrust forward, then thrust back, etc., loud as heck. Also, notice the guy with the headset leaning slightly out of the box as it passed by......Real
That's why its best fly by ever, because they don't normally do that. Again. I was there, I know the guy who shot the video. Its real! This is my last post. Take it or leave it!
This is not real, a pilot would never turn like that when doing a fly over. He would never make an aerobatic maneuver over a crowd of people at such low altitude. That is why when you see a fly over they are always straight on path, they never differ from that path.
This is fake as shit, you can see the difference in the pixels around 0.01 sec to 0.02. This was cut and paste crap. somewhat believable. Good work though.
He actually didn't mean to be that low, he scared the shit out of himself and he called his commander as soon as he landed and said "Boss...I fucked up". He was grounded for a few weeks, but then right back up with no other restrictions. This is one extreme but the way flyovers are now is the other. "Higher....Slower!" we use to yell in a sarcastic manner at the AF Academy when I was a cadet. haha
Looks like an altered video to me. Unless our jets can dematerialize and fly thru solid objects, like the lightpole in the far end of the stadium.

@sig04 In one part your correct...they dont allow that type of stuff if they know its going to happen. However, fly-overs are not a sanctioned form of flying. There are no rules to break when doing a fly over because it isn't "A Move" so to speak. They have altitude barriers they have to abide by. However, when given permission to do a fly over it's pretty much what the pilot feels safe doing. This however, landed him in hot water. You can see the same clip on "Fly By Insane" on youtube.

@jackster110025 well for its time but its been way surpassed on so many things
aell0111 7 months ago
@aell0111 there was really nothing wrong with the plane but it was very slow at turns and maneuvering

FAKE! Everyone knows that cars can't fly.
straken9k1 8 months ago
That's why its best fly by ever, because they don't normally do that. Again. I was there, I know the guy who shot the video. Its real! This is my last post. Take it or leave it!

This is not real, a pilot would never turn like that when doing a fly over. He would never make an aerobatic maneuver over a crowd of people at such low altitude. That is why when you see a fly over they are always straight on path, they never differ from that path.

Why I have never seen this from another angle - I am pretty sure, that lot of spectators had cameras there...why?

This is fake as shit, you can see the difference in the pixels around 0.01 sec to 0.02. This was cut and paste crap. somewhat believable. Good work though.

@mekque This is photoshopped. I can tell by the pixels, and I've seen a few 'shops in my day

He actually didn't mean to be that low, he scared the shit out of himself and he called his commander as soon as he landed and said "Boss...I fucked up". He was grounded for a few weeks, but then right back up with no other restrictions. This is one extreme but the way flyovers are now is the other. "Higher....Slower!" we use to yell in a sarcastic manner at the AF Academy when I was a cadet. haha

The second pass of the F 18 looks fake--angle of the plane, and it's trajectory. Nevermind the pilot would've been
Grounded after flying so low.
Thanks for the controversy, but I'm pulling the BS card.
