Family oriented, lightening quick when threatened or startled slashing with substantial razor sharp javelin fangs. Several families have taken up residence in our yard/area over the last 10 years. We have researched, loved and respect these wild animals. Yes! You may be able to get close to them, even hand feed them but be prepared for the slashing they may inflict if provoked, or startled. They do not deserve to be shot by a game warden because of a humans "stupid" activity.
@Sedonartist - Exactly, like wild bears, lions, and so many other wonderful neighbors we have: Respect them from a distance, resist the temptation to feed them, because they are unpredictable and because they are doing fine without our help.
@Engelborg - Well, they're not very wild, as you can see, because they get fed so often. Hard to tell people what they should not do, but you can try. I just filmed and let the people do what they do. If they lose a hand one day, well, then they will know.
Used to see these packs of usually 10 to 15 javelina (peccaries) in Arizona when we'd go on horseback rides in the Mazatzal. Would have to call the dogs and keep them by our side. Javaline pretty much they mind their own business and just mosey along. Not a good idea to feed any wildlife but people sure do.
great vid i love these animals. had a family of 3 show up last winter and soon turned into a family of 6. they ate good while they were here, they love potatos, carrots, mellons, grapes, dry dog food etc and seem to have an endless stomach.
When i was a kid my family raised two baby Javelinas from birth. Even though they are 'mean' naturally, they also hate to be in water. By the time we gave ours to the forth worth zoo, they were cuddling and snuggling with all the kids and taking baths once a day. :)
Wild Javalinas can be dangerous. These young ones have been almost domesticated by constant contact with people who like to feed them, so the danger is much less.
hey again i live in florida and my granpa showed me some foxes that have been comin around his house and i almost petted one! also we found some wild kittens and tamed them now we have 2 kittens o and thinks for the responses!
@XxDarkEaglexX26 foxes carry a parasite called trychnosis on they're skin, you can get it by touching them, also feeding wild animals is a really bad idea!
It really was cool. They're still quite wild, but due to their constant contact with people who like to feed them, they have become accustomed to approaching people who appear to have food. My camcorder must have looked like breakfast. I was squatting and holding the camcorder quite low, and it must have looked like an offering.
Cute. But they can be very dangerous.

@Tilan123 - Probably not a good idea to pet them. As you can see, they spook easily. Cute, but still wild.

They shouldn't be feeding wild animals.

I saw a tv show, they were camping, at night they shouted "peckory's" they all ran to the river to escape, they can be dangerous evidently when big.
Never trust pig farmers they say, as pigs make the perfect things to dispose of bodies, they only leave the teeth!!
