  • Some people need to grow up really. There is a difference in XMA and the traditional. It is like the difference in classical and modern music. I wouldn't use a classical instruement in a rock song, and I wouldn't use a electric guitar in a clasical song. The same works in XMA. I wouldn't go into a fight flipping and doing cartwheels and working in coreography, i would use my ATA skills, but I also wouldn't do a demo with knife hand strike, punch, reverse punch.

  • I love the demo team, XMA is really nice! just try to see if you can maked is nice to talk aboth others just try it

  • UH OH!!! LIL off there!!

  • my cheerleading name is victory

    lol

  • god the annoying bitches in the background are gonna make me tear the hair out of my head

  • this is shit; not martial arts. if you call yourself a master, and you do xma, you are the biggest joke a human can be. to think i had respect for this shit.

  • i agree. i am a blackbelt in martial arts, and have always thought the ATA demos were a joke. expecially the xma. it does take a great deal of athleticism to do this stuff, but its not practical, it lacks technique, and its giving the public a false sense of what martial arts really is.

  • and ur videos are??

  • vic-tory vic-tory vic-tory vic-tory :D

  • this was a great demo the best part was when u all said "Master Silva this is for you!" that was great Rest in peace sir u are missed by all. overall it came out really decent screw the haters team victory keep doing your thing!

  • i used to be on this demo team. this is the same demo they've always done, just slightly modified.

Winston Taylor.... as sloppy as ever :p

  • Great gymnastics. I think you gave a better performance than you give yourself credit for.

But this is not martial arts.

This style of choreography is not even close to kata training. The moves you are being taught are dance, not self-defense skills.

What XMA is is the cheap dumbing down of martial arts, which is having devastating impact on the martial arts world. XMA is making legitimate martial arts look impractical and silly.

But great gymnastics. Congratulations, I guess.

  • Ok so obviously u are ignorant to the fact that xma is martial arts on a entertainment level.... It's not meant to be something that is going to save ur life it's suppose to take the basic moves and evolve it and make a show with it then just the same boring form every time... It is to help u think outside the box and be creative...we do acrobatics and dance and martial arts all in one form for entertainment... Thank u for the compliments and now maybe u learned something.

  • I agree with thebendersen124. Its really good what you are doing out there. But the spirit and the reason you learned it, its gonna be lost in this type of performance. Karate should be fun but it has to make sence. So to train karate without thinking about fighting, self defence etc. (you know what I mean) you cannot call karate. Call it gymnastics or trixter performance. But not karate.

  • @thebendersen124 cuz ur just jealours u cant do that

  • @itme20 Yes and no. I think what you guys in the XMA world do is awesome, and I really would love to learn some of it. I just think it's too bad that we can't find a meeting in the middle. I choreograph for my dojo too, but we try to keep the vocabulary in the realm of what you find in traditional kata. The purpose of kata in the traditional martial arts is to practice self-defense techniques in a structural and aesthetic way. To victoryma1's point, it's about putting the art in martial arts.

  • So to that extent, the fact that XMA has gone one step further and explored the flips and tricks is fantastic for the martial arts -- if you don't lose the quality of the technique when you're not mid-air. Take the kata Unsu -- it's not one I've ever studied, but I've seen videos and it's awesome. There is an aerial move in the kata where you jump and do a 180 turn and land on one knee. XMA takes that idea and expands on it. I just don't like it when the techniques on the ground become sloppy.

  • So, in an ideal world for me, XMA needs to go back to its traditional martial arts roots and relearn the point of those kicks and those blocks and those stances that you do when you're not doing crazy flips. And in exchange, I think us in the traditional martial arts world need to loosen up on the subject of the gymnastics.

  • great performance!

    I myself am in XMA!

I hope you guys win in worlds in 2009 :)

    -mark

  • does no one leave a mature comment that remains relevant to the performance? it was good, kicks my ass off the planet lol,

  • Nice cartwheels and twirling. The flips would be nice if even half of them were landed properly. Alas, this is NOT gymnastics or cheerleading (or is it?!). As a former high ranking black belt instructor (and student of an ATA senior master) with the ATA, I looked with dismay at the lack of proper stances and execution of techniques in this "demonstration". This is why I left ATA and returned to teaching full contact street fighting and combat styles of martial arts.

  • everyone has there opinion but make sure you know what xma is before you start judging anything. As a ata instructor myself under SR. Master Von Schmeling, yeah that wasnt our best performance but we still went out there and wowed the crowd. im not so sure u didnt stay cause of that u didnt stay cause u couldnt do that or help run a school which is why u went out of business!!!

  • Victoryma: Sorry I hurt your feelings. If you are satisfied with that performance and if this is what you enjoy, then good luck with that. YES, I know what XMA is, and NO, I did not "go out of business. To be clear, I have great respect for the ATA as well as it's Masters and Sr. Masters. When I came to the ATA I already had black belts in several hard-fist styles. No pads and full contact -- styles more suited than ATA to real fighting and defense. Like others, I returned to those styles.

  • good..well keep ur comments on those styles.. let us do us and u do u

  • wow. there's definitely a LOT of arguing in the comments below! :/.. As an instructor, I love XMA to death.. But as a Trickster, it couldn't hurt to see something a "liiiitttle" more acrobatic, ya know? I know it isn't all about acrobatics, but really.. who DOESN'T enjoy seeing a PERFECT corkscrew round kick missleg jacknife X)

  • im camo belt

  • (Cont) If u don't kno us yea we may come out that way a lil but we enjoy wat we do and love it and have fun w/ it we diff don't think we are better then any1 else..we still go and train everyday w/ ppl Like Marc C Sammy V Danny Graham Mike Cife ppl we have alot to learn...all i am saying is meet us(the whole team) and then judge us..not just on wat u see or MAY of heard..

    Evan Turner

  • (Cont)I understand wat every1 is saying about how we walk around and we may look all stuck up..but i have meet countless ppl who have thought that and once they meet us they said wow i'm sorry i judged u all totaly wrong..i just don't get it..

  • (Cont)We go and teach xma at others schools in the ATA all the time so how do we think we r better then other when we help to better others.yes we can get loud and crazy but thats cuz we are crazy about one another we sepnt HOURS together everyday..and we go crazy for every trick or form we like in ATA and open tourny..

  • See this is wat i dont understand.why does every1 judge us?we don't walk around thinking we are better then any1 else.we have so much respect for the other team in ATA as well as Naska teams. There has never been a moment when we have never said no to helping ppl out.

  • Your all very talented individuals. Each team or individuals can learn from each other. Please conduct yourselves in a respectful manner in all aspect because young and upcoming students are watching and learning. Not to mention your representing ATA and THE ART.

  • thank u for putting that in a good way i know just what u mean!! i will i wish alot of people could learn how to word things like u just did.

  • oh yes. i almost forgot. some words of advice: HUMBLE YOUR DAMN SELVES. your cocky attitudes make ata look so bad its not even funny. realize that there are countless teams in naska that own you and im sure you know that better than anyone. walking around like you own shit never worked for anyone and it doesnt work for you. but its so embarrasing when we're in a ring and someone from your team does something as small as landing a 540 and you all have seizures over it.

    HILARIOUS. TRULY.

    <3

  • good job.though at us open 2006 charlie lee's and K.I.C.K team pretty much owned victory.

love ata..but this isn't you got served.

  • please tell me u guys are gonna put the worlds one on here! i saw team flows one for nationals and worlds! theyre.... ok... not very good but yea....

  • hey victory! good luck in arkansas! i wish i could be there to support u! <3 victory girl, erica

  • Well Ms Erica if this is the erica i know to me you will always be a victory gurl so good luck

  • that isnt martial arts thats dancing martial arts doesnt focus on flipping and all that bullshit that you guys are focusing on youd get your ass whooped against an real martial artist.

  • its not supposed to have just all regular od fashion martial arts you are supposed to make your own form with music and do whatever you want to entertain the crowd. obviously you are to ignorant to know that. we do real martial arts just not when it comes to demo team so think before you speak or maybe you are speeking for yourself

  • i am sorry my mistake

  • Don't be sorry. This was a "Team Sychronized Form" competition. Not a "demo team" competition. At the time, it wasn't even a "Team XMA" competition. I think they've NOW thrown in some of those words. But not at the time this was performed. Oh yeah, dancing????

  • work on bows...make moves more distict...it isn't all about the flips..they are cool btw but work on technique!!!!!!!!!

  • thats funny!!! yeah yeah i know it was bad but i will still take that as it was a joke!!!

    VIctory

  • *sigh* xma....when will everyone see what other martial artists see dumb about xma

  • Actually, im going to stand by what i said but add something.

This team has a good demo, though its not actually sync. If i were them, i'd compete in team demo instead of sync until that part of the form is on point. There is some skill, yup, but i think you all are trying a bit to hard to be flashy when there is no need. 4 mins is a long time, shorten it, and it will work out better.

  • the demo is actually 3 min

  • Its funny that, no one looks at my stuff until i "bash" them. I wasnt expecting to get much of a reply, victoryma1, but dang... im up against a member of the top team to beat. Whatever oh whatever can i dooo... *cry*

  • Couple of things here, and I saw you at both Vegas and L.R. First, you guys are very entertaining. But, form was supposed to be 3 min long from traditional bow in. You were over by 10 sec and should have been DQ'd. 75% supposed to be all sync'd or domino. You're not even close. Judges corrected themselves in L.R. You changed much of what you did in Vegas for Little Rock and added way too much gymnastics, in my opinion. You're still entertaining to watch.

  • Kick Team, Charlie Lee, and str8 up are the 3 best Team's out there..we placed 4th at the US Open benhind them 3..yes XMA is based off trad. i agree but still with XMA u are able to step outside of ur basic sidekick..this is team victory in ATA not open style...

  • Hm. I sorta thought Team Victory was a martial arts team rounding off point fighters, competing on circuits like Naska, Nbl, Wskf and Iska. Lots of sport karate legends too... aw well... guess there can be two.

  • talent's not too bad... synchronization is what killed me here... and kill the dancing. PLEASE

  • omfg screams are sounds are f`n annoying, perfomance for mentally ill zoo prisoners? good perfomance though

  • Hell yea!! Team Victory will always b the team to beat!so stop runnin ya mouth on the computer and step out there and beat us!! Excel got lucky!! Turner, Team Victory Member..whiteboy#1

  • IF we wanted to get judged on basics then we would compete traditionally. sycronization yeah it was a little off but look at it this way dont dis us when we have yet to see your team and how syncronized you are once you show us and beat us then talk.

    TEAM VICTORY OUT!!!!

  • K.I.C.K Team

    Team Charlie Lee

Prorank(04-06) Kalman Csoka and Marcel Jones(REAL team sync)

Team JPM Daniel Sterling and Matt Emig

Team JPM Steve Terada and Rudy Reynon

    Team Straight Up demo squad

    Have your pick. Good luck.

  • what i dont understand is that mostly everyone in ata doesnt get it, why put basics with the exception of a side kick in the xma competition? the reason behind xma is to take away from basics and do what you want make it flashy, entertaining, syncronized, and difficulty level thats what you get judged on!!! Continue next comment

  • Why put basics in a XMA competition? Well, because XMA stands for extreme MARTIAL ARTS... one would think there would be some solid basics. Look at who created the system, Mike Chat, one of the strongest forms and weapons competitors out there... has stated(not just him, but his student, Matt Mullens and many others).. "Flash is trash without basics."

  • You're taking XMA and putting a wrong meaning behind it. The meaning being XMA, whoever told you to take away from basics is a wrong. XMA is taking solid basics and mixing it with the flash, WITHOUT losing sight of the martial arts origin. I dunno how you can go out, use Team Victory as the name and then state what you did about Xma not being about basics. But fine, have it your way. The team to beat, i'll give you a small list of teams your "team victory" can go against.

  • They have good skills, but i think

ATA really overpublicizes everything when they're really pretty average(with the big cameras and everything) and the little ATA uberfans think ATA is the best because of it. and btw i was in ATA for 3 years, so i do have some idea about what im talking about with their ATA magazines and tournies.

  • I have to agree with previous comments. A lot of people know that your team is really talented, but the martial arts is unfortunately not so much there. I think more traditional moves need to be added, and more focus on synchronization and timing needs to occur. Either way, you guys are still amazing, and our team has yet to get close. But we will bring it in Vegas, and see you at Worlds.

    Best of Luck!

  • We killed in Vegas...got cheated at Worlds..came back and won in Orlando...this Worlds it will turn out the right way..i'll put money on it!!

    Evan Turner...Victory Whiteboy #1

  • too much dancing, not enough martial arts.

  • Eh. Individual members of the team are very talented. But the synchronized portion of the form (which is what ATA judges are supposed to grade with the most weight) is lacking.

    Still, nice job guys :)

  • pmg stop to screaming stfu !!!!

  • Team Victory all day everyday!! We put on the show of the weekend!

    Turner

  • WHOOO!!!!!

I thought you guys should of won...
