@whiteboyfunk1 The Yacht sat up above the waterline, they ripped a winch head off trying to tow her off the rocks, there is alot of force in a 33m high main sail, risk of launching the boat with a keel stuck in the rocks could tear it out of the hull sinking your boat within seconds.
@R00RAL I expressed myself incorrectly, I was meaning to pull the boat over by the main at the top of the mast to try and relieve pressure. I see your point completely, but I have resorted to gently pulling a boat over to dislodge it from oyster banks. 'Course rocks and big water are a whole different animal. Hope the wind is blowing your way.
Accidents happen in all level of sports this rock should have been marked nor the skipper nor the navigator knew this I can imagine the anger of the crew
So you know for sure the chart was completely accurate? (It's not like inaccurate charts are a rarity.)
It's a bit of a stretch calling these guys incompetent... you don't get to race at that level (especially helming and navigating) if you don't have at least half a clue what you're doing.
If it WAS marked, you know for sure they hadn't been given inaccurate tidal data? Didn't have a badly calibrated sounder?
@hughgareth you are claiming that the sailors on the volvo ocean race are incompetent? If a formula one driver crashes his car is he incompetent? idiot
What a boring sport, they deserved it.

Why didn't they utilize the main to relieve pressure on the keel?

@whiteboyfunk1 What keel?! They had this tilting bulb stuff, amazingly it didn't break off...

@TheYachtskipper You are so correct, poor choice of words on my behalf.

The rock would have been marked on the chart. This was causedby absolute incompetance

@hughgareth "Would have"?

Many things can put a good sailor on the rocks.

I guess I'm just a bit surprised it wasn't marked in anyway.
